Kazakhstan on Tuesday lodged an official complaint with the Olympic Committee of Asia (OCA) after a spoof national anthem from the comedy "Borat" was played at a medal ceremony instead of the real one.
The blunder took place last week at the shooting world championships in Kuwait as Maria Dmitrienko stood on top of the podium to celebrate her gold medal performance.
Evidently, the organizers went to the Internet to download the anthem and went with the first Google hit.

Which will never happen, so...
Honestly, North Korea and Iran getting a nuke is just a way to make their ruler's penises bigger. They can't use them because their opponents have so many more that YAD (Your Assured Destruction) precludes it.
And yes, folks can claim that those country's leadership are so mentally deranged that they'd accept their own destruction just to "stick it to The Man", but if they were that nuts, they'd have never risen to rule. Not to mention Kim Jong-un and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad / Ali Khamenei do not have absolute control of their respective countries. So if Kim Jong-un went off the deep end one day and ordered a nuke strike on Tokyo, his generals would just shoot him and put one of themselves in charge. Ditto if Ahmadinejad or Khamenei ordered a strike on Tel Aviv.

Agreed, and I'll add to that; the US will not take any serious step to depose the regime in North Korea. An aggressive, belligerent DPRK is good for shady US interests. It provides justification for keeping military bases in Japan without directly challenging China...which is the real strategic worry.Kiskaloo wrote:So if Kim Jong-un went off the deep end one day and ordered a nuke strike on Tokyo, his generals would just shoot him and put one of themselves in charge.
Sadly, the only losers in this are the North Korean people, whose interests have been abandoned by both sides.

Re: The World News Thread
A bomb has exploded outside a high school in southern Italy named after a slain anti-Mafia prosecutor as students arrived for class, killing a teenage girl and wounding several other classmates, officials said.
The device went off a few minutes before 8am in the Adriatic port town of Brindisi just as students milled outside, chatting and getting ready for class at the Morvillo-Falcone vocational institute.
The school is named after the slain anti-Mafia prosecutor Giovanni Falcone and his wife, Francesca Morvillo, a judge who was also killed in the 1992 bombing in Sicily by Cosa Nostra.
One of the wounded students, a girl who was walking alongside the victim outside the school in Brindisi, was reported to be in a critical condition after surgery. Officials said at least seven students were injured, but some news reports put the figure at 10.
Dr Paola Ciannamea, who helped treat the injured at hospital, said that one of the injured was a teenage girl who was in grave but stable condition after surgery.
She added that plastic surgery was still being performed on some of the other injured, who suffered burns in the blast.
An unidentified hospital official, briefing reporters there, said the critically injured student was in stable condition after surgery and that several of the injured students had suffered burns.
There were no immediate claims of responsibility.
Italy has been marking the 20th anniversary of the Sicilian highway attack, but it was unclear if there was an organised crime link to Saturday's explosion.
Interior minister Anna Maria Cancellieri, in charge of domestic security, said she was "struck" by the fact that the school was named after the slain hero and his wife, but she cautioned that investigators at that point "have no elements" to blame the school attack on organised crime

This week, New York City proposed a ban the sale of soft drinks larger than 16 ounces (473ml), imposing a fine of $200 for any business who does so.
At the same time, New York State wants to make possession of up to 1 ounce (25g) of marijuana subject to only a $100 fine with no jail time.
Now I'm in favor of the general decriminalization of marijuana, but when I can fill a container with more weed than I can soda - and be charged a fine half-as-much - I'm with Mio:

Jon Stewart made fun of exactly that on the Daily Show last night.Kiskaloo wrote:This week, New York City proposed a ban the sale of soft drinks larger than 16 ounces (473ml), imposing a fine of $200 for any business who does so.
At the same time, New York State wants to make possession of up to 1 ounce (25g) of marijuana subject to only a $100 fine with no jail time.
Here's what the Governer is thinking: New York law currently treats possesion of 25 grams (0.88oz) of cannabis as a simple violation worthy of a $100 fine if it's not in public view. So a small stash in your house...in your car...even in your pocket is relatively okay. A cop would need a warrant to find it and no judge in his/her right mind is going to issue a warrant for less than an ounce of weed.
However, due to New York City's new (and questionably legal) policy that allows police to stop and frisk anyone they please, people who have stayed within the law by keeping their marijuana hidden out of public view are getting busted for misdemeanor level offences...because the police told them to take it out of their pocket. Basically; it reeks of entrapment.
The "Stop & Frisk" policy is only legal in New York City...not the whole State. Elfen or Triela could fall afoul of it but just 75 miles away officers would need to demonstrate probable cause if they wanted to frisk me.
The Governer's plan would simply even things out in the eyes of the law.
So all of this is going to be moot soon anyway. Once the mad scientist insanity chemicals have been dumped into NYC's reservoirs nobody will need marijuana anymore.crazyidiot78 wrote:something in the water in NYC that is making people nuts.

It was actually on the North coast (in Tunisia) that I took the risk, so the water was probably pretty safe anyway. I did not try my luck with the tap water in equatorial Africa (Gabon).

Bloomberg is an emperor wannabe, high on the power he has as the mayor of 'America's City'. Fact is he has gotten away with too many crimes to actually fear doing anything wrong. The entire "send straw purchasers into other states' gun shops to prove guns are easy to buy and then blackmail them for "trafficking" schtick was a federal crime that fell well into RICO statutes, but no one would touch the prick, because he's mayor of NYC.
He's really needs to be removed from office, preferably in chains.

Considering how major this sort of story is, I haven't heard that much about it aside from an article in the third page of the paper a little while back.

, that cranky old hag.Their only hope at this point is that maybe Elizabeth Lloyd will get
distracted by her day job of chasing down one hundred and one Dalmatian
puppies to make into a fur coat to follow through with the lawsuit.
Seriously though, what the fuck?! How far up yourself do you have to be to sue an 11 year old for assault and battery? She must be able to at least bite her small intestine.

No matter where you go, ballfield attendance is at the spectator's own risk . After all, they don't HAVE to be there.
sad... just sad. Most of these types of lawsuits would end within a week of Congress passing a "Loser Pays" system for them. Then again, with what passes as "common sense" in many courtrooms, we'd still be watching a little-leaguer's family's destitution at the hands of some gold-digger.

Andy Griffith has died at 89 and it looks like CERN might have sufficient evidence to declare at a new conference tomorrow that they have discovered the Higgs Boson.

Today, Allison and Kara likely put together a temporary memorial in the SWA parking lot and shed tears for the loss of one of the greats. Rest in peace, Sergio Pininfarina:

Kara: Sad year for the automotive world so far...
Allison: F.A. Porsche, Carroll Shelby, now Sergio Pininfarina. (she glances at her Delta, then prays) Please, not Giugiaro next...

So, it looks like for all intents and purposes it is the Higgs, at least to a probability that will satisfy everyone except particle physicists.Kiskaloo wrote:...it looks like CERN might have sufficient evidence to declare at a new conference tomorrow that they have discovered the Higgs Boson.
This makes me quite excited though because, in the imperfect logic (and minimal actual knowledge of how this all works) of my brain, it goes something like this: Higgs Boson = Higgs Field = Something measurable for mass and intertia which can then be eventually manipulated = Inertial compensator... somewhere along the line this has to be related to gravity which = gravity manipulation = Impeller Drives...
...first person to build me a functioning impeller drive totally gets a cookie.

A Higgs Boson goes into a Catholic church
"I'm sorry", says the Priest," but Higgs Bosons aren't allowed in here !"
The Higgs Boson replies , "But without me how can you have Mass ?"
