I'm way too far away (presently working off the coast of Texas) to have felt the quake but my 4 nephews in Baltimore reported that it was "super wicked!"

Tim Cook's job as CEO will be to implement Steve's tone and direction.

Rest in peace, asshole.

22 years is a long time to not come up with any evidence exonerating you. 22 years is far too long for an officer's family to not have closure. You were not innocent. A judge decided your fate years ago... all else up to this point has been stalling.

So they cut Amanda Knox loose.

I dunno, man. I've never gotten a comfortable vibe off that girl. She comes across as possibly psychopathic. Who knows what they've allowed to freely roam the earth once more. Oh, well.

I'm of the opinion she was innocent and the victim of an overzealous Italian prosecutor who was more interested in making a political career than seeing any semblance of justice done. I also believe the jury was influenced by the media bias against Amanda and general anti-American feelings thanks to the policies of the Bush Administration.

IMO, the Kercher family should be able to sleep well knowing Rudy Guede is serving time for her murder.

Welcome home, Amanda.

The way she put the blame on Patrick (Meridith's employer), who was completely in the clear, was highly suspicious if you ask me. Add the fact that she couldn't keep her alibi straight, plus her bizarre behavior at the police station and the courthouse, and you can see why I remain unconvinced about her innocence.

I'm not buying the allegations of Satanic ritual murder or orgies or what have you; I'm not even suggesting that any possible wrongdoing on Amanda's part was premeditated. The scenario I envision is that Rudy was Amanda's dealer, and came over to the house to sell her some hash. She steals money from Meridith's room to pay off Rudy, and they get high. Meridith comes home and discovers them; Rudy assaults her, while Amanda, totally stoned out of her mind, becomes an accessory to her murder.

Manslaughter at the most, yes. But certainly not innocent. Just my two cents. (shrug)

As sensationalized as this story was I just pity anyone who actually had to be involved in the case.

I played a very small part in the Natalee Holloway investigation & it was a royal pain in the ass. Anyone who discovered I was in Aruba working on the search immediately wanted to launch into a lengthy discussion about the case, including what I thought happened.

I have no opinion.

I was not there to take sides, only search for evidence.

I was only there to operate sonar.

I'm sure there are Italian police & investigators who feel the same way right about now.

As she is from Seattle, the media here has been following the case all these years and in relatively fine detail. I suppose because she is a "local girl" we're inclined to cut her some slack, but the Italian authorities subjected her to sustained heavy interrogation so I'm not surprised her story changed as they worked her over. And I am of the opinion that "bizarre behavior" was the creation of the Italian tabloid media. Amanda is a practicer of Yoga and she claims she was stretching, not doing cartwheels. (shrug)

She was jailed for four years.

In the end, she could have left Italy right after the murder and I doubt the US would have extradited her. I know most criminals are stupid (hence why they get caught), but that she stayed and allowed herself to eventually be arrested and incarcerated is another reason why I believe she didn't commit the crime.

Muammar Gaddafi is confirmed dead,

Gaddafi died as rebel troops overran the final pockets of fighters loyal to the former regime in his home-town of Sirte.

His death was announced by the prime minister of the country's National Transitional Council government Mahmoud Jibril, who told a press conference in capital Tripoli: "We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Muammar Gaddafi has been killed."

The xenophobia hoax theory flies in the face of the fact that the incident was reported by Chinese media. And I can personally assure you that such soullessness is alive, well and rampant in China. Ceased being proud of the old country a long time ago.

I can't imagine anyone being upset simply over his being executed. As you said, he was a vicious tyrant and deserved his fate. More likely they're upset that he was executed so soon after being captured, denying them the chance to parade him around and show him off to the world before putting him down. Though from what I heard/saw on the news, it was less an execution and more of his having succumbed to the injuries he suffered both before and after his capture.

I checked out some of those articles and, just to play Devil's Advocate for a moment, I can see where some of the comments are coming from. Yes, it is a positive turn for the Libyans to have captured and executed Gaddafi but, from what I've read at least, the protests are against the barbaric means with which the execution was carried out and the sensationalist media coverage that has come with it. The rest, those actually against his capture and death are simple pro-Gaddafi neo-Nazi wack-jobs and easily dismissible.

Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was in 11th-hour talks aimed at saving his conservative government ahead of a key parliamentary vote on Tuesday, as investors renewed pressure on the premier to step down and allow a new government to steer the country out of Europe's debt crisis.

I still think Reagan set the standard for these gaffes when he said:

"My fellow Americans, I am pleased to announce I have just signed legislation outlawing the Soviet Union. We begin bombing in five minutes."

Well in December 17, 2011, Kim Jong-il is dead. Everyone from North Korea is crying and sad. It kind remind me of my father. Also Iranian president (alongside with Russia) condole Kim Jong-il death. But Japan, South Korea, and NATO (including USA), they doesn't care about Kim Jong-Il death. As in December 28, 2011, Kim Jong-Il's body is buried in Pyongyang, North Korea during in funeral. Compared to Osama Bin Laden's death.

Former PM and current Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd resigns from the ministership, from Washington, saying he refuses to be part of the "soap opera" which is the Labor Party leadership...

...Triple J (national broadcaster) immediately throws on a really long song so the DJ can go and watch the broadcast. That makes me happy.

I did enjoy the part of his speech which stated "I will not be part of a stealth attack on a sitting prime minister elected by the Australian people".... which is basically a big "fuck you", considering how he lost the PM-ship.

A 120-year-old heritage-listed bunya pine in the grounds of the Courthouse Hotel in Warragul, eastern Victoria, Australia has been dropping huge pine cones that weigh up to 10 kilograms each and can fall from a height of up to 20 meters.

Kazakhstan on Tuesday lodged an official complaint with the Olympic Committee of Asia (OCA) after a spoof national anthem from the comedy "Borat" was played at a medal ceremony instead of the real one.

The blunder took place last week at the shooting world championships in Kuwait as Maria Dmitrienko stood on top of the podium to celebrate her gold medal performance.

Evidently, the organizers went to the Internet to download the anthem and went with the first Google hit. Doh!

Epic fail for the event organizers.

Epic win for Sacha Baron Cohen's troll humour. His "Ali G" interview with United States Surgeon General C. Everett Koop (who did not know it was a gag interview) made me burst a blood vessel.
