The Caterham 7 R500. It's only got a 263hp Ford 4-banger, but since it weights less than 1150lbs that's more than enough to blow the doors off almost anything on the road (it is street legal).

Here's the lap time list from Top Gear...the R500 is 5th.

Ahh, a man after my own heart Personally I'm quite a fan of the boggo 125 Roadsport as well (though part of me wonders how much shit I'd cop for rocking up at the club without a "real" Seven, I already cop enough for having the Alfa).

Well, there's a little space behind the rollbar (and above the fuel tank )... there's quite a good picture of one of these with all four wheels off the ground in an EVO mag somewhere.

The race to build a Caterham Seven in Scotland before the Stig could drive one there from the factory in Surrey in Series 8, Episode 7 was classic Top Gear.

It's based on their Baja 1000 competition truck (in fact, they ran a special "R" version of the vehicle in the 2008 race).

Across a road-less wasteland, the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor...will outrun just about everything, from a zombie attack to the incriminating middle finger of the Almighty (though we don’t guarantee the latter). Keep a Raptor handy at the back door of your compound, and you will surely slip away when civilization does the big flameout.

Just be sure to use the towing capability to take a fuel tanker with you, since the mileage is in the high-single to low-double digits.

That would be nice. And yes, when I saw that Overfinch on the show tonight, that is the one I want, but I want the gun and drinks rack Jeremy has in the back of his Range Rover. It's a single wide tray that slides out. It's a '68 Lamborghini Espada...a V12 powered Grand Tourer equally appropriate for blasting across the continent or arriving for an evening at the casino in Monte Carlo.

The Espada is a bit heavy & ungainly on twisty roads, so if the route heads into the alps he might swap for an '86 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth...just because I once owned one in real-life.

Voodoo, I'd definitely go for the Cossie. just because I like the fact that it's a performance vehicle for the everyman.

My own RS Cosworth was an absolute unreliable bitch that left me bankrupt numerous times, but she was an absolute dream when she was running right.
One thing Kara & Michele might not approve of; I only raced one Ferrari while I owned it (a 308 GTS), and after about 20km of German back-roads my Ford came out on top decisively.

Actually, I've not tried that... yet. But now that you mention it I probably could cram a potato or two (safely wrapped in alfoil) in between the extractor pipes, possibly some snags too. Shall keep it in mind for the next camping trip. Kinda reminds me of the picture in EVO awhile back of someone using a Murchie's engine to keep bacon and eggs warm at Le Mans.

We do need to start carrying something to wedge in the Disco's exhaust pipes however, it's got a dual exhaust system so you can't use an exhaust-jack unless you plug one.

Oh yeah, and two thumbs up on the Cossie, in fact just the recent car choices in general.

To be honest, I wouldn't recommend it. The idea came from my Father, who tried to bake an aluminum wrapped potato between the exhaust pipe & cylinder of a 2-stroke dirt bike (probably his Maico) over 30 years ago. He reported that it ended up tasting more like 2-stroke exhaust than potato.

I remember when I was still flying R/C there were a couple of guys flying control-line pulse jets. I can garuntee you that they were the noisiest things at the field, even in amongst the bona-fide turbines, tuned pylon-racers. You could be doing your runup and still hear them 200m away.

it would also thin out some of the elderly in the South of England ,that distinctive sound would cause a fair few to panic !

theres a video of the twin jet version being tested ,it hits 73mph ! you can buy them on Ebay around about $8,500
