The Caterham 7 R500. It's only got a 263hp Ford 4-banger, but since it weights less than 1150lbs that's more than enough to blow the doors off almost anything on the road (it is street legal).
Here's the lap time list from Top Gear...the R500 is 5th.
Stig's fast laps
Alas, it's too small to carry diving gear, so my OC, Elio, had to choose a boring BMW M3 instead.
Ahh, a man after my own heart Personally I'm quite a fan of the boggo 125 Roadsport as well (though part of me wonders how much shit I'd cop for rocking up at the club without a "real" Seven, I already cop enough for having the Alfa).
Well, there's a little space behind the rollbar (and above the fuel tank )... there's quite a good picture of one of these with all four wheels off the ground in an EVO mag somewhere.

The race to build a Caterham Seven in Scotland before the Stig could drive one there from the factory in Surrey in Series 8, Episode 7 was classic Top Gear.

I say go for it! Who needs all that needless fluff in a car like a radio and doors?
By the way, Alfisti, that video you posted with the VW Bus at Spa-Francochamps is friggin' insane! I got to run a few laps of that track 10 years ago (on a bike) and anyone who could pull off a pass going down hill into Eau Rouge has serious cojones no matter what they're driving.

well, if you're going to have a pickup or SUV, it may as well actually be capable of hauling more than a minivan (if it's not an offroad vehicle, that is).

Serious cajones... or be batshit insane. Considering that we're talking about someone who apprently decided that turning a Kombi Van into a race car was a good idea...
Well I'm tempted to go with option "b" =P
In other news, perfectly suited for use in the Bahamas:
One of dad's mates once had one of these with a Cooper S motor in it... not the safest combination ever if I'm honest.

When the Zombiepocalypse comes, Michele and Kara will face it in a Range Rover V8 with the custom shotgun and drinks rack in the back.
But for those who plan to head deep into the hills, may I recommend the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor?
It's based on their Baja 1000 competition truck (in fact, they ran a special "R" version of the vehicle in the 2008 race).
Just be sure to use the towing capability to take a fuel tanker with you, since the mileage is in the high-single to low-double digits.

Across a road-less wasteland, the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor...will outrun just about everything, from a zombie attack to the incriminating middle finger of the Almighty (though we don’t guarantee the latter). Keep a Raptor handy at the back door of your compound, and you will surely slip away when civilization does the big flameout.

That would be nice. And yes, when I saw that Overfinch on the show tonight, that is the one I want, but I want the gun and drinks rack Jeremy has in the back of his Range Rover. It's a single wide tray that slides out. It has a long slot for two shotguns and then recessed slots for various types of glasses (shot, Collins, champagne, wine, etc.) and a place to put your non-chilled spirits and wines:

Allison prefers cars that are turbo'd up. The NSX-R, while a fine vehicle, is strictly Naturally-Aspirated. Even the Blakely Bearcat, with its Ford Pinto engine, could have a turbo bolted on.

If Marisa ever talks Elio into going along on one of your Top Gear road trips (there were issues with him setting foot the United States again) he might be tempted to select this...
It's a '68 Lamborghini Espada...a V12 powered Grand Tourer equally appropriate for blasting across the continent or arriving for an evening at the casino in Monte Carlo.
The Espada is a bit heavy & ungainly on twisty roads, so if the route heads into the alps he might swap for an '86 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth...just because I once owned one in real-life.

Michele - and Kara, for that matter - would so approve of that choice.
They'd be compelled to bring out the 1968 Ferrari 330 GTC to accompany them:

Old Elio is understandably reluctant, however, about going on a long road-trip with Marisa...probably with good reason.
Waking up in the hotel room after a long night of "socializing" in the hotel bar.
Elio: *yawn* Jeeze, is it time to get going already?
Marisa: Sure is, boss! 0700...let's beat all the other teams out onto the open road!
Elio: I thought you would be more concerned with food at this hour.
Marisa: Already taken care of...I popped something in the breakfast warmer.
Elio: The what?
My own RS Cosworth was an absolute unreliable bitch that left me bankrupt numerous times, but she was an absolute dream when she was running right.MP5 wrote:I'd definitely go for the Cossie. just because I like the fact that it's a performance vehicle for the everyman.
One thing Kara & Michele might not approve of; I only raced one Ferrari while I owned it (a 308 GTS), and after about 20km of German back-roads my Ford came out on top decisively.

Michele is a realist and having worked for the Scuderia, he understands not every Ferrari was "best in class".
That's why he mostly bought the ones that were.

Actually, I've not tried that... yet. But now that you mention it I probably could cram a potato or two (safely wrapped in alfoil) in between the extractor pipes, possibly some snags too. Shall keep it in mind for the next camping trip. Kinda reminds me of the picture in EVO awhile back of someone using a Murchie's engine to keep bacon and eggs warm at Le Mans.
We do need to start carrying something to wedge in the Disco's exhaust pipes however, it's got a dual exhaust system so you can't use an exhaust-jack unless you plug one.
Oh yeah, and two thumbs up on the Cossie, in fact just the recent car choices in general.

To show his support of his former service (and because Kara thinks it's cool to drive a car that shares the last name of her handler), Michele picked up a 2011 Pagani Zonda Tricolore:
The vehicle was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Frecce Tricolori / 313° Gruppo Addestramento Acrobatico, the aerobatic demonstration team of the Italian Aeronautica Militare.

To be honest, I wouldn't recommend it. The idea came from my Father, who tried to bake an aluminum wrapped potato between the exhaust pipe & cylinder of a 2-stroke dirt bike (probably his Maico) over 30 years ago. He reported that it ended up tasting more like 2-stroke exhaust than potato.Alfisti wrote: Actually, I've not tried that... yet. I remember when I was still flying R/C there were a couple of guys flying control-line pulse jets. I can garuntee you that they were the noisiest things at the field, even in amongst the bona-fide turbines, tuned pylon-racers. You could be doing your runup and still hear them 200m away.

I found a nice picture of Michele's "Ferrari Shrine" for "Gunslinger Girl: The Next Generation":
(From front to back: 288GTO, Enzo Ferrari, F50, 599GTB Fiorano, F40, 250 Testarossa)

Allison & Kara carefully back Michele's '61 250 GT into the garage where they "borrowed" it from.
Kara: Ohhh man...we put like 200km on the car! Michele is gonna re-condition us...then he's gonna kill us!
Allison: Relax...I've got this under control. We'll just jack the rear wheels up and run the car in reverse until the odometer reads the number Michele expects.
Kara: That's stupid.
Allison: It'll totally work! I saw it in a movie!
5 minutes later...
Kara: FUCK!....Did you see that in a movie too, genius!?
Allison: (scratching her head) Actually I did. I wonder why I didn't remember that part...?

Re: OC Dream Garage
Saw this, fell in love:
Gave me an idea, and it goes a little something like this:
On break in Germany, Allison and Triela ply the Autobahn in the former's new toy. The weather is gorgeous, something of an infrequency in Germany.
Triela: This thing runs pretty nice. How much was it?
Allison: All told, about 230,000 Euros, plus shipping from America.
Triela: Where are you getting that kind of money from?
Allison: Any sort of business opportunity that a petrolhead like me can sink my teeth into. Stocks, bonds, and so on, investing in a company, and such. So glad I have this!
A Dodge Viper SRT-10 and a Porsche 911 Turbo suddenly blitz past the Gallardo at full bore. Allison's stunned expression turns to anger at being passed.
Allison: Those sons-of-bitches passed me! They have no idea how much power this thing has!"
Triela: (worriedly) Allison... What are you doing?
Allison: Making the most out of my purchase. hang on tight, Triela. (she puts her foot to the floor, the twin turbochargers whistling their way to full boost as the car itself rockets forward, reeling in the Viper and the Porsche. Triela clings for dear life.
Triela: Dammit Allison! Not this crap again!

Impressive. I don't know if we should credit Olga's driving or Allison's coffee-addled drive train design. Nice to know the fuel pumps work at that angle.
Here's a secret spy photo of the early prototype...

Well as long as they haven't let Bill Murray become a handler it should be alright...

Re: OC Dream Garage
Just saw a 1953 Buick Skylark Convertible go across the block at Barrett-Jackson for $100,000.
What a sharp-looking car. Totally impractical for Europe, but for the Dearborn Dream Ride?

While I was living in Deutschland I always wanted to ship over a mid-sixties Ford Galaxy or Fairlane convertible. It would have been perfect for going to fests. You'd think a gigantic two-door land yacht like that would be impossible to park, but the truth is you could have just left it right in the middle of the walkplatz (piazza for those who prefer Italian) and the Germans would have assumed its presence was just part of the festivities.
At the end of ones tour in Europe, sell it as a foreign exotic to recoup the costs.
