Re: OC Dream Garage
Once again Koenigsegg is making headlines for being able to go very quickly indeed, but this time the £1million Agera R is also rather good at stopping, too. In fact, it's so good, that the supercar has managed to break six world records.
The Swedish manufacturer decided to invite the bods from the Guinness Book of World Records along to see whether the bio-fuel powered Agera R could beat the record for speeding from 0-300km/h-0 again.
It seems the Agera R's 5.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 made good use of its 1099bhp and 885 lb ft as it managed the feat in a mere 21.19seconds. In regular terms: less time than a regular TV ad, around two thirds the time.
Where legal, the Agera R, which was launched at this year's Geneva motor show, will hit 62mph (100km/h) in 2.9 seconds and will theoretically hit 275mph (though no one has tested it/has the stones to test it). Stopping power is provided by its 15.6-inch ventilated ceramic discs and six-pot calipers at the front and 15-inch, four pots at the back. Combined the Agera R has nearly four feet (in diameter) of ceramic brakes. Impressive stuff.
Bugatti won't be pleased to hear of the Agera R's success – the Veyron Supersport has been clocked doing the same run in a positively glacial 25.3 seconds. The whole firm should hang its head on shame. That said it might spur them on to make a Veyron Superstopper.
The Agera R's timings were:
0-300 km/h: 14.53 seconds
0-200 mph: 17.68 seconds
300-0 km/h: 6.66 seconds
200-0 mph: 7.28 seconds
0-300-0 km/h: 21.19 seconds
0-200-0 mph: 24.96 seconds
All in all very impressive. Now, who can breach the 20 second mark..?

Re: OC Dream Garage
French artist Philippe Pasqua has created an amazing tattooed Ferrari by covering the car in skin-tone leather then getting to work inking it, Japanese style.
The inked Ferrari F430 Scuderia is currently on display at the Gelerie Laurent Strouk in Paris, and features some of the most intricately detailed decoration ever applied to a car.
Wrapping a car in vinyl is tricky enough, but this Ferrari has been painstakingly covered in genuine leather - even around the wing mirrors - before having a mural 'tattooed' onto it.
The design features motifs typical of Japanese tattooing, including a large dragon, cherry blossom leaves, lotus flowers, representations of water and skulls drawn in Pasqua's signature style.
The Paris gallery display is open until 14 January, and features the Ferrari attached sideways to a wall, so the work can be fully appreciated.
That also means that visitors can get a good look at the F430 Scuderia's original work of art - its exposed V8 engine. The 4.3-litre unit develops 508bhp at 8,500rpm, sending the car to 62mph in 3.6 seconds. Well, not this particular car, for now.
It's unknown whether Pasqua will sell the Ferrari when the exhibition is over, but whoever buys it might want to consider Scotchguarding it before taking it anywhere.

I'm probably about the only person who cares about this, but Audi will finally be bringing the A4 Allroad to Australia next year...
Finally I'll be able to have a nose around J+M's car myself. Pity they'r eonly bringing the 2.0L four and not the bent-6 diesel, but c'est la vie.

Speaking of Audi... sadly not coming to Australia:
Audi's announced a limited production run for the A1 Quattro. Comes with 188kW of power, 350Nm of torque, permanent All-Wheel-Drive and manual gearbox only.

Is that an artist's conception of the A1 Quattro? Because the shape of the car looks like a slightly stretched-out Fiat 500 Abarth with an A4 nose to me... I think the wheels also have something to do with it.

I'm going to hazard a guess that they're artist's impression... but by the same token I also think they're official Audi renderings.MP5 wrote:Is that an artist's conception of the A1 Quattro? I'll be honest with you mate: I'm not seeing it. Perhaps around the rear haunches and up the waistline in that particular image, but the roofline's more squared off and the Audi's styling is more agressive in general.

Looks good, but I don't do true manuals (too many hills and too much stop-and-go traffic) and I don't have a cyborg chauffeur with artificial knees...

Ahhhhgh! What a scrrrracthgedy! To think back in the 80's the show chewed up classics (the AMC Ambassadors and Matadors patrol cars too) when I would dearly love to get me mits on just one of those, yes bent frame an all, and these Dopeamines smooshed all those poor widdle Dodges and AMCs....

The 2012 Detroit Auto Show looks to be a winner from the American side.
The new 2013 Ford Fusion takes strong styling cues from the Aston Martin Rapide and Cadillac showed their new ATS sports sedan.
Chevrolet showed two new concepts. The CODE 130R will appeal to Laine, while Kara will no doubt drool over the TRU 140S.
Dodge brings back the Dart, this time with Italian underpinnings (it is based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta).
Honda/Acura showed the new NSX in concept form. Designed in the US, it will also be built at a new facility in Ohio.
Lexus also made the LFA both more practical and environmentally friendly with the new LF-LC concept. It has four seats and an as yet to be announced hybrid drivetrain.

Thought I might share this... Dad sent me these...
...seemingly the folks are getting serious about this whole becoming grey nomads thing and have been shopping to kit out the Disco accordingly. It just got back from ARB.
Aside from what you can see (bullbar, snorkle, lights... which we've had for awhile, 9500lb winch, dual wheel carriers) there's also a long range tank (which takes up the space the spare used to occupy, hence why it's on the back), dual battery system and a VHF radio. There's also a set of six steel wheels (same stud pattern as the offroad camper trailer) coming with all-terrain tyres.

Re: OC Dream Garage
I think the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet looks better, but that is also the Evoque Convertible's only competition and the Evoque would likely be a good bit more expensive.
If Land Rover do build it, I expect it will be more structurally rigid than the Murano, which is said to be quite lumbering and wobbly.

Jaguar releases XF estate... Jethro seriously considers trading Audi.
Pity it doesn't have the ground clearence or number of driven wheels for his needs.
Okay, if I'm honest the jury is still out on the styling around it's rear, looks a bit heavy over the rear arches at times, but sill: not half bad.
Oh yeah... Ferrari also launched the F12, the fastest Ferrari ever... but this is a Jaguar Estate and therefore much, much more interesting and significantly cooler.

Well, this is an interesting development;
Audi buys Ducati
Analysts speculate that VW/Audi was eager to add Ducati to its portfolio since competitor BMW already has a motorcycle division. The price was about 860 million euros.
The VW Group owns car brands Lamborghini, Skoda, Seat, Bentley, Audi and Bugatti, plus MAN and Scania trucks.
I suppose now if Elio needs parts for his ST4S he can catch a ride with Jethro Blacker or Brian McDonnell on their way to the Audi dealership.

At this point Michele might as well just give an endowment to the Rome Audi dealership: "The Michele Pagani Garage of Excellence".

Saw my first Range Rover Evoque up close and personal today. It looks small, but I think that is because it's cabin is so slammed. I expect it's about as long and wide as an RR Sport.

Re: OC Dream Garage
I think you'll find it's a fair bit smaller than a Sport. The Sport is built on a Disco 3/4 chassis and I can tell you from personal experience that the latter, once in a carpark, is a little like steering a small battlecruiser around due to its size. The Evoque shares its underpinnings with the Freelander 2 and is, at least in terms of length, about the same size as the BMW 1-series coupe.Kiskaloo wrote:Saw my first Range Rover Evoque up close and personal today. Try maneuvering this boat through carparks and city traffic...that Range Rover will feel like a Lotus once you're done.Alfisti wrote: The Sport is built on a Disco 3/4 chassis and I can tell you from personal experience that the latter, once in a carpark, is a little like steering a small battlecruiser around due to its size.

The logistics department may have gotten a little carried away by Claes's request for a larger spade
That's a JCB HMEE,they opened a production line in the US to build them and also open up the US civilian contractor market, seems half the guys running it are also shipped in from the UK to get the factory running, its got 4 wheel drive and steer, antilock brakes, armoured cab and a top speed of 55mph so it doesn't need a truck to transport it and its designed to drive straight onto a C-130 !

This definitely will burst the budget and the garage for agency vehicles.

Re: OC Dream Garage
Now in writing Charlie's brother Andy, I realize the more gruff of the Montagne twins isn't as much a 'car guy' as Charlie (who is known to 'appropriate' cars that strike his fancy/serve his purpose), but if there was a car that suited him, I think outside any high-Euro Italian options, the Lotus Carlton is the car that fits his image the most. I mean, look at it:
The slight fender flares, aggressive-yet-subtle body kit, and the black-in-direct-light imperial green body color (the only color you could get it in) give it the look of something that perhaps an East End mob boss might be seen in--and therefore one would be wise to move out of the way lest they lose some teeth or their kneecaps. The 377bhp twin-turbo I-6 also gives it more than enough hustle to be a decent getaway car, and a self-leveling rear suspension comes in handy for when the body in the boot is a big one or there's a lot of ill-gotten currency being hauled about, or there's enough firepower to overthrow a Latin-American dictatorship in it. And when Andy feels like a drive, the car handles well enough and is even a bit on the lairy side, allowing much opposite-lock tomfoolery, but not so much that the rear end will easily overtake the front wheels. As described in Hammond's article, it's like an armed bodyguard--discreet, featureless, possibly even understated, but highly capable of bringing on violence on a whim-- just like Andy, in some respects.

As much as I'd love to agree with you on the image, I actually know people with these things... and they're not yobbish, tough, fast or hard. In fact my greatest memory of them is making me very angry for driving at a steady 95kph in front of the support vehicle I was driving, which, at the time, was a decade old Disco (Lauro style) with a camper trailer on the back. It needed a good run-up at hills and they were resolutely refusing to speed up so that could happen, and every time I slowed down to give myself some space they slowed down as well.MP5 wrote:Now in writing Charlie's brother Andy, I realize the more gruff of the Montagne twins isn't as much a 'car guy' as Charlie (who is known to 'appropriate' cars that strike his fancy/serve his purpose), but if there was a car that suited him, I think outside any high-Euro Italian options, the Lotus Carlton is the car that fits his image the most.
