I'm liking the direction Jaguar has been taking of late... The XK, the XF, the new XJ and now the C-X75 concept to celebrate the marque's 75th anniversary:
Would look pretty sharp next to Michele's XJ-220 or Elio's XF-R, would it not?

seems it has a 90 hp engine and will get up to 100mph,so i'm guessing it probably has a 5 speed car gearbox on it

Re: OC Dream Garage
Well... the original with just the 2-speed box was notably pretty quick in the day as well and held a number of speed records. However, I just don't think a 2-speed car would be saleable these days, vintage nostalgia or no. Ditto things like manual timing advance and needing to lean out the side so it doesn't tip over in corners.Awinnell wrote:Alfisti wrote:

Certain models of the original 3-wheelers where definately capable of "breaking the ton." It's not as impressive as impressive an achievement today, when even a minivan can top 100mph in air conditioned comfort, but back in the days before safety was invented it must have been an exercise in sheer white-knuckle nerve!

Photo's a few years old now but was taken at the yearly "Speed on Tweed" event. This bloke also runs a vintage roller and a blown morgan +4 from the late 50s (though the supercharager was his own addition)

Personally, I think it needs more glass area and better ground clearance (read: more rally, less show pony). Other than that, kinda cool.

It looks FUGLY.
Where's the front bumper?
What are those things under the headlights? It makes the car look like its crying!
From the front wheel axles to the rear, its fine, but that front end and nose HAS TO GO!!!
What were they smoking when they designed it?!

The reason has to be marketing. Audi is trying to push upscale & compete with Mercedes, BMW and Jaguar. As a result they race Le Mans sports-cars, where they can be seen racing against higher profile, upscale manufacturers.
Who is in WRC now (and over the last few years)? Ford, Citroen, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Skoda...Mini next year. Not exactly the marques Audi wants to be associated (or beaten by) with while promoting an upmarket image.

Audi parent VW is also likely going into WRC within the next year or two, so no need for Audi.

Oh don't get me wrong... I wasn't suggesting that Audi should be getting back into rallying because you're right: it's not their market anymore.Professor Voodoo wrote:I had friends who asked similar questions when the Audi TT came out..."Why doesn't Audi get back into the World Rally Championship?"Alfisti wrote:Soo... However, and by the same token, I think if you're going to do a throwback to what was one of the greatest rally cars of all time then it should take a few rally cues (and I really do think the high window line above the flared bodywork looks odd).
I must admit of course that part of that is probably some of my own urge to see someone do a small, fast softroader... something that you could feasibly punt down a dirt backroad straight out of the box.

Mini is re-entering the WRC next year with the Countryman model, so I expect we'll see a civilian version of it and that should be pretty chuckable...

Yeah, the X 1/9 and Fieros had the same issue with the head lights. So did any car that had hidden or retractable headlights.

well they are being custom built, so check with the maker Force Protection Europe
The vehicle is based on a modular design, comprising a core automotive armored spine or "skateboard", onto which one of a number of alternative special to role "pods" is mounted. These roles include a patrol, fire support or protected logistics vehicle, sharing the common and interchangeable core. This concept enables the unit operating Ocelots to maintain mission capable forces, while addressing maintenance schedules or combat attrition, by reconfiguring available vehicles with the pods needed for each mission, rather than stocking spare vehicles as a reserve fleet. Vehicle pods are easily interchangeable in the field as the need requires.

The fastest in removing and installing an engine (with car drivable) is 1m4s. In a VW Bug.

not quite, all you need is a couple of spanners and a rope with another truck on it or several large squaddies to pull the pod up,i should mention it underwhent a name change,it was called Ocelot during developement, but the production version is called Foxhound
The pod uses a novel tilting mechanism attaching to the hull by hinges which are kept in place with pins. To carry out maintenance the wiring loom from the pod is disconnected from the skateboard together with the steering connection and the crew pod is then tilted using another vehicle and strops to pull it over, providing full access to all automotive parts.
To change the pod the pins are removed from the pod and the skateboard driven to a new pod and this is then connected and tilted back onto the vehicle. As part of the design of the vehicle maintenance was a high priority and integral to the overall concept enabling major assemblies to be rapidly changed in the field rather than having to recover the vehicle to a base workshop to carry out repairs. For example a new powerpack can be flown into a forward operating base and changed over in half an hour.

Ocelot... Foxhound... Someone at that company spent too much time playing the Metal Gear Solid series of games. Just like me.

While it's not a good choice for any fratello (since it only accommodates one human being at a time) Audi has unveiled their 2011 contender for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Kisk should be pleased...it has a roof.
Kisk should be pleased...it has a roof.
Less powerful engines, according to new Le Mans rules, means the new car will rely more on aerodynamic efficiency, thus the importance of a roof. Like Audi's previous LMP1 cars, the R18 will get a smaller TDI powerplant than the R10's V12 and the R15's V10 — a 3.7-liter V6. Also, Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich says the R18's been designed for "progressive" electrification, leaving the door (if not the roof) open for some form of energy recovery and transfer system.
Unfortunate...but I was present for the petrol-powered R8's final race...maybe it would be a good idea to head down to Sebring this spring to see the R15's farewell. The R18 won't be at Sebring, however — that honor will go to the R15.

Damn right I am. I can cheer for Audi again (have not been able to do so since the R8C of 1999 or the Bentleys of 2000-2003).

It does indeed. Personally I would prefer a darker leather to match the exterior, but I'm sure that's something that can be worked out with the dealership. Otherwise, I certainly wouldn't be ashamed to be seen in one.

I didn't used to care about supercars (apart from every boy of my generation's lust for the Countach). Then I started hanging out here. And watching Top Gear.

I think that's either a speaker, cupholder, or lumbar adjustment of some sort... given that, the sexually-frustrated might get 'creative' with that...

Kara: Well, as much as the car does I suppose.
Britney: Good enough for me. Mr. Pagani; do you think I could have a ride? There's this really bumpy cobblestoned road I've been dying to go...um...sightseeing on.
