Re: OC Dream Garage
Allison & Kara carefully back Michele's '61 250 GT into the garage where they "borrowed" it from.
Kara: Ohhh man...we put like 200km on the car! Michele is gonna re-condition us...then he's gonna kill us!
Allison: Relax...I've got this under control. We'll just jack the rear wheels up and run the car in reverse until the odometer reads the number Michele expects.
Kara: That's stupid.
Allison: It'll totally work! I saw it in a movie!
5 minutes later...
Kara: FUCK!....Did you see that in a movie too, genius!?
Allison: (scratching her head) Actually I did. I wonder why I didn't remember that part...?

Re: OC Dream Garage
Saw this, fell in love:
Gave me an idea, and it goes a little something like this:
On break in Germany, Allison and Triela ply the Autobahn in the former's new toy. The weather is gorgeous, something of an infrequency in Germany.
Triela: This thing runs pretty nice. How much was it?
Allison: All told, about 230,000 Euros, plus shipping from America.
Triela: Where are you getting that kind of money from?
Allison: Any sort of business opportunity that a petrolhead like me can sink my teeth into. Stocks, bonds, and so on, investing in a company, and such. So glad I have this!
A Dodge Viper SRT-10 and a Porsche 911 Turbo suddenly blitz past the Gallardo at full bore. Allison's stunned expression turns to anger at being passed.
Allison: Those sons-of-bitches passed me! They have no idea how much power this thing has!"
Triela: (worriedly) Allison... What are you doing?
Allison: Making the most out of my purchase. hang on tight, Triela. (she puts her foot to the floor, the twin turbochargers whistling their way to full boost as the car itself rockets forward, reeling in the Viper and the Porsche. Triela clings for dear life.
Triela: Dammit Allison! Not this crap again!

Impressive. I don't know if we should credit Olga's driving or Allison's coffee-addled drive train design. Nice to know the fuel pumps work at that angle.

While I was living in Deutschland I always wanted to ship over a mid-sixties Ford Galaxy or Fairlane convertible. It would have been perfect for going to fests. You'd think a gigantic two-door land yacht like that would be impossible to park, but the truth is you could have just left it right in the middle of the walkplatz (piazza for those who prefer Italian) and the Germans would have assumed its presence was just part of the festivities.
At the end of ones tour in Europe, sell it as a foreign exotic to recoup the costs.

My British Literature teacher back in HS had one of these; soft-top complete with the 500 cubic inch engine. As might be predicted by applying Murphy's Law, his economical 2nd car (an Escort) died on the day the 1st Gulf War began, causing gas prices to shoot up.
As a Ford aficionado this one is closer to my heart than the GM stuff, but it was well beyond the means of my 20-something enlistedman self back then. Fairlanes & Galaxies were still somewhat obtainable on my Air Force salary.ElfenMagix wrote:A 1963-69 Lincoln Continental Mark III comes close...
It was all a pipe dream anyway...the Ford Sierra Cosworth and the 3 bikes I owned kept me bankrupt enough without trying to maintain a classic convertible in damp German weather.

Because everything's cooler as an estate wagon.
2000GTV shooting brake? YES PLEASE!
Or the Giulia Pronto... saw one of these in the Valley the other day, in yellow. I actually thought it was cooler than the Dino parked up the road.
Actually, that'd make a pretty hot classic-motorsport support car. Hmmm
Or course, if you were totally loaded, there's always the DB5 shooting brake.
For the secret agent who has settled down and now needs space for two kids and a labrador.

Yeah, the Daytona is the more "proper" choice for Monaco... however the 3000's quirkier and Jethro's British And they did win a fair few rallies nearby.Kiskaloo wrote:I've been seeing a shedload of Austin 3000's on the auction shows as of late. Though I guess by those arguments I could have just as well given them a mini.
Either way, it's a bit of a moot point now... I've already drawn the pages in which it's required.

As to the Merlin; I assume that if you spec it you're expected to spend most of your time demolishing random and inoffensive bits of nature rather than sitting in traffic.

Re: OC Dream Garage
So my Blu-ray of "Top Gear: The Great Adventures 3" arrived today from the UK. it has the "Director's Cut" of the US Factual Muscle Car Roadtrip, the Romania GT Road Trip and the Bolivia Special. It's essentially about ten minutes of extra footage from each episode plus optional commentary by James May and producer Andy Wilman (sic).
For the US trip, part of the extra footage is from Bonneville where some college guys created an "electric barstool racer" which Karen (the driver) was able to get to 40mph on the salt.
Sounds like something Elio and Michele would work on during their downtime on weekends.

The barstool racers I've seen have been powered by 2-stroke chainsaw engines...and as I understood it Australia is the hotbed of such competition.

Re: OC Dream Garage
Had to watch that 5 times before I stopped laughing. I was expecting the idiots (who thought it was a "Lambo") in the camera car to crash and then...oh shit!
Elio: Did you have anything to do with this incident, miss?
Marisa: Ummm, no...n-not a thing!
Elio: Really? Then how did they salvage it out of the lake?
Marisa: Can I speak with my lawyer before I answer that question?
Elio: (faceplam) Your lawyer?
Rico: My client pleads guilty!
Marisa: Shut up Rico! You're like the worst lawyer ever!

Rowan Atkinson gained some fame in the US with his pantomime "Mr. Bean" character, but in my opinion that's far from his best stuff. Blackadder and The Thin Blue Line are much funnier.

Back at Q-Branch...
Allison: All right, Michele. Good news. All the water from the lake is drained out, and aside from soaked carpets, the interior is in excellent condition.
Michele: This implies there is bad news. What about the rest of the car?
Allison: Right. Well, as you know, the Q-Branch boffins tend to get carried away when they get hold of their James Bond movie collection and then happen to have a project car on hand, right?
Michele: Right, and as I remember, you're actually part of such shenanigans.
Allison: Well, not this time, and I told them not to, but they wouldn't listen to me...
Michele: Just get to the point! What'd they do to it?!
Allison: Think "The Spy Who Loved Me".

Marisa: "Oh this is much nicer than the swimmer delivery vehicle Elio and I have been using."
Allison: "And it's faster, too! We couldn't use the W16 since it's an air-breather, but the engine bay was large enough to allow us to fit a huge Li-ion battery pack so we could put in a really powerful electric motor. And the car's slippery aero shape turned out to be slippery in water so full out, she'll hit 20 knots!"
Marisa: "20 knots! Wow!"
Elio (thinking of stealth and how noise propagates underwater): "What's the cavitation like from the prop at that speed?"

Re: OC Dream Garage
There is a deafening bang as Avise suddenly bursts into the room, almost rattling the door off its hinges!
AVISE: [Puff, Pant] Wait, Pagani! I'll take it off your hands if you don't want it!
MICHELE: ...why on Earth would you want it in the first place?
AVISE: ...The Lotus was my favourite Bond car of the lot?
MICHELE: Eh, whatever. [tosses keys over] Knock yourself out, I for one don't need trout blocking my exhaust.
Avise leaves, whistling a jaunty tune and spinning the keyring on his index finger. Agapita is waiting outside.
AVISE: Great work, Agapita! At last, a sports car of my own! Now, I'm finally on something like an equal footing with the rest of the handlers. Your cyborg ear really elucidates the important things.
AGAPITA: Thanks, sir! [beams, and then shifts feet sheepishly] Would this mean that I could, uh... take fitness off for a few days...
AVISE: Why, of course! That's the least I could do!
AGAPITA:
AVISE: After all, you'll need time to wax and clean it for me and I wouldn't want that to eat intro training time.

Wasn't the underwater Lotus Esprit featured in For Your Eyes Only as well?
Between the free apartment, all the overtime he works, and now a free Bugatti, Mancini might become the first OC handler to leave the SWA wealthier than he arrived!Robert Frazer wrote: AVISE: [Puff, Pant] Wait, Pagani! I'll take it off your hands if you don't want it!

I can see a disgruntled Agapita making the logical decision that since she's the one who cleaned the muddy carpets and dead fish out, and then waxed it she should be able to take it out for just a short drive...AVISE: you'll need time to wax and clean it for me and I wouldn't want that to eat intro training time.

I actually don't mind the colour scheme (and the ski-racks are awesome, I need some like that for the Alfetta), but "007" logo would have to go. If it had been better integrated into the rest of the colour scheme I could have handled it, but here it's just slapped on.

Should Laine ever decide to trade up from her beloved Z28, she should consider

Designed for the upcoming independent film “Jinn,” the Firebreather Camaro was unveiled on Friday at the Autorama custom car show in Detroit. We’ve now added an exclusive video interview with director AJ Amad and star Ray Park, hosted by Jack Baruth (with a little extra help).
The car is destined for a starring role in the supernatural thriller, which is being shot in Michigan over the next few months. Built in partnership with Classic Design Concepts, a limited run of 50 units will be made available to the public later this year. The Firebreather is powered by a 650 horsepower V8 motor and will sell for $60,000 when limited production begins.

Seems like they took some front end styling cues from the concept drawings of the never built 2010 Pontiac Firebird.MP5 wrote:Should Laine ever decide to trade up from her beloved Z28, she should consider

Well to be honest, I wasn't driving; I was in the passenger's seat as it went by.
And yeah; at first, I thought it was a Firebird.
