Dont forget the sidekick minigames it has to have. "Not Crying" and "Words with Spic in'em" where you play as Romeo, and "Telling if its dead" which is the Rocco minigame.

Sadly it's still only in pre-Alpha stage, so much of it is still placeholder effects and the like. Anyway, they released details for Rarity's VA and theme in Fighting is Magic today... I assume she's going to be the regulation "Kung Fu" chick, always nice to know they're still making progress.

Freespace 2 engine?
There was a rather awesome Battlestar Galactica simulator made on that a bit back.
I might just have to give that a stab. It's been awhile since I picked up any game, but simulators have always been my favorites... ever since the original X-wing.

The original demo had a larger basis in Freespace. When you used the autopilot, it would use time-compression to get you to the next waypoint rather than the "fly-by cutscene" that Wing Commander traditionally used. From what I've seen of the newer demo, they went to the "fly-by" and did some work on the interface as well to streamline it. Most of the real work on this project has been completed in the past two years. My understanding is that they've had the script largely completed for almost five. It's a fan project, and from what I've seen, the love for the original is in every byte. Given how so many people have been jonesing for a new Wing Commander fix, they'd rake in the cash if they could get the rights to it.

This thread is incredibly long and difficult to navigate, especially if you're looking for talk of a specific game or platform. Is there any way we could make Video Games a subsection of gossip instead of a thread, with different platforms as the individual threads? The total posts for this thread is greater than the total posts for a lot of sub-forums already.

I'm familiar with this trick, but I'd just like to navigate the discussion with more ease without having to search for a specific title. For example, it would be nice to simply limit what I see to just DS games or filter out PC games.

No, but then I didn't have any part in creating those and would have not been in favor of doing so if I had been asked.
My main issue is that at times this site has added so many forums and sub-forums that I think it's scared people away or confused them on where to post to the point they decided not to.
IMO, a number of these ancillary forums should be removed because they've become inactive to the point of being officially dead.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why I am anticipating his game.
It could be because of the formerly Japanese exclusive skins coming Stateside for DLC.

Re: Vidya games!!
Looks like another game whose trailer outstrips the gameplay.
I've been playing Wing Commander Saga. Gameplay is great, story is excellent, and the voice acting does not suck. All of which is virtually unheard of in a fan-made freebie.
To spell out how impressive it can be to those who liked Wing Commander or its clones, After getting my ass handed to me (well, in the script anyway) through several missions and two star systems, I finally got to get some well-deserved vengeance on the Kilrathi fleets. Flying several intercept missions to take out tankers and landing craft aplenty, I found myself smiling, actually enjoying the feeling of revenge, as I toasted a pair of enemy corvettes and a frigate. It has been a long time since gameplay and story, rather than jokes, has made me smile.

GAH! Haven't even played the game yet and I know it will be disapointing. Now my rant whence I finish it will be a bit more like 'I told you so, didn't I?' rather than, "Arrh! I'm so disapointed, must trash talk on the internet!'.
Seriosly though, it's all cool, my little bro does a pretty good job at ruining endings for me anyway.

It's perfectly possible (it was actually easy for me) to fill the bar up doing nothing but single-player. You just have to import save files from previous games where you did most sidequests then do most sidequests in ME3 to get the green magic cupcake. It's only difficult if you start ME3 from scratch.

As my last week here in Switzerland ebbs out and thoughts start turning back to Blighty, I must say that one of the drags of being a holiday rep for the past winter is that it's pretty much strangled my gaming. In the past four months it's amounted to an hour on Professor Layton and about half-a-dozen games of Minesweeper.
I lost all of them.
I lost all of them.

Looks like I have many, many hours of gaming ahead of me then. I have finnished the other two games, but that profile (Xbox 360) got corrupted and died. I won't mind playing ME1 again, but ME2... lets just say I'd rather shove a pinapple up myself and leave it at that.Entropy wrote:It's perfectly possible (it was actually easy for me) to fill the bar up doing nothing but single-player. Had a funny moment when I finished the roamnce subplote with (Sm)Ashley, she said "I like bold." My character was bald, she was makin' fun of me .
Oh, yeah, my reason for posting in the first place, apparently there's going to be a Far Cry 3. the basic plot is that you are escaping from some islands. Which is such a change from escaping the tropical islands from the first three games, as opposed to Far Cry 2 which was set somewhere different (war-torn African country).

Well, I seen the third ME3 ending
- Spoiler:
- it sucked as much arse as the other two endings! Bioware must fucking die for such crap endings that completely shit on the player that played through the other two games AGAIN ( ) making all the right choices and then having none of it matter when the end came. MOTHER FUCKING BARSTARDS!

That's because it was from the era where you weren't supposed to be able to finish it... you were supposed to keep feeding 20c pieces into the machine until you ran out and went to beg your parents for more.B00galyB00 wrote:that raiden game is bloody hard! ive just got to the beach and then died. again!

@Alfisti: I call dibs on tactical!
It seems like it could be an awesome concept, if done correctly... but if not handled correctly, it could be a horrible chore... probably best applied with a group of people who know each other well, and are committed to playing/practicing fairly often.

I actually did think about it a bit more later, and agree: unless you had a "crew" willing to practice and drill on a regular basis, not to mention follow set plans, it could be an incredibly frustrating experience. Doubly so for a Harrington simulator where the tactical environment is, umm... somewhat more complex... than the more Star Trek style combat the simulator seems to be base on and less able to be "seat of the pantsed".
That said, the bridge makeup would probably be different as well. You could do away with the science officer and probably communications as well (because, lets be honest here... EVERYONE wants the tactical slot). I reckon you'd need a captain, astrogation, helm (possibly rolled into one if you were short people), engineering, a tactical officer and probably an ATO as well (and maybe even an EWO)... unless of course you feel like trying to manage attack birds and point defence all on your lonesome.

The Denver chapters of a Star Trek club I am a member of did something like this at a con. They build a Federation and a Klingon bridge set and networked it all together so you could battle each other. Loads of fun.

I downloaded it and would be willing to give it a try with y'all. Don't have a headset, though, so I'd have to be the deaf/mute crewman who needs IM to do anything.

Re: Vidya games!!
Hrm... Astro and Helm could/would be the same thing (Hope they've boned up on their maths! ), with the probability of having an EWO, and Commo would possibly still be needed, depending on circumstances (have to let those filthy pirates know that they're buggered! ).
But yeah, any sort of Saganami Island Bridge Simulator mod would have to be a SERIOUS alteration of the core programming, simply due to the greater amount of missiles being used, to say nothing of the impeller wedge-based warfare.
And yet.... and yet, I can ALMOST see how it could be done...

I fiddled with it a little using two cores for the server and my other two for a client. The lack of intuitive controls makes things difficult. It could really use some streamlining.

Yeah, the GUI definately looked like it could use some work. I think EVERYONE had better bone up on their maths to run an Honor sim. Maybe if you were short handed you could roll the Commo and Engineering slots up into one? Lets face it, generally one tends to be busy when the other isn't... at least for single ship engagements. An EWO would be pretty much essential if you wanted to run later-war battles, but to be honest I think it would be best handled initially during the early First Havenite War. To be frank, if you tried to run an engagement between podnaghts the whole system would probably just give in and crash.Officer_Charon wrote:Hrm...
