woo! more 'get to know people' lists!
... I haven't been playing much of anything lately... but I guess my recent favorites (within the past 6 months or so) are:
-City of Heroes/Villains (PC)
-Call of Duty 4 (PC)
-Supreme Commander (PC)
-Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven (PS2)
-Soul Calibur 3 (PS2) -just multiplayer. I have everything unlocked...
-Rayman: Raving Rabbids (and 2) ... (Wii) -good for parties.
-Guitar Hero 3 (Wii)
-Super Smash Brothers Melee (Gamecube... which I've never owned. I play it on the Wii) -also good for parties.
-Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (DS)
-Final Fantasy 6 and Phantasy Star 1-3 (Remade on the GB Advance... played on a DS) -replaying old favorites.

honestly, in the soul blade/calibur series, 2 was my least favorite. I loved Soul Blade on the PS1, Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast, and SC3 on the PS2 is pretty much my favorite (though they changed Siegfried into something strange and nearly unusable... used to be my favorite character). If you can scrape together the $20 for it, I highly recommend #3.

I'm pretty much a Nintendo fan, too. Among the stuff I like are:

  • the entire Warioland series of games (gotta love Wario)
  • the Red/Blue/Yellow, Gold/Silver and Ruby/Sapphire versions of Pokemon (I'm a Pokemon fanatic)
  • Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland (one of the most adorable games ever created)
  • Goldeneye 007 (a truly amazing first-person shooter)
  • BattleCity (an oldie but a goodie, seeing as I'm one for armored fighting vehicles)

There's a whole lot of others, too, but the entire list is too long to relate here...

I dont really like consoles. i mean you have to rebuy a completely new console when the newer comes out.

I rather stick to a PC, you can just replace the parts and save you're self a bit of money, though it does use more power, but then again it has more options then a console.

I disagree. Yeah, PCs are always going to be more powerful than consoles, but the consoles have more games to choose from.

BTW, I just got a PS3, so Unreal Tourny 3 HERE I COME when I have more money...

More games for console? Maybe, with a big if attached. Actually the expense angle isn't that big. You can blow 400 easy on upgrades over the course of 3-4 years if you want to keep cutting edge. Consoles cycle tends to be a bit longer then that. Its more of a hassle if you want to keep both going.

I spend more money on video games than I should be allowed to. Razz I like games from most genres.

That being said my favorite games for PS2 have been the Metal Gear Solid games and numerous fighting games like MK and Soul Calibur. NCAA Football and Basketball are also required in the college atmosphere.

I've just given myself (hehe) for christmas an X360. Dead Rising, Rock Band and Mass Effect are all kinds of cool, and if I had any more disposible income I'd gladly splurge for more but I do have a LITTLE bit of self-restraint.

*Thinks about getting a second part-time job*

Course then my gaming time would pretty dwindle to zero... Laughing

MH3 is gonna suck ass for the Wii.

Honestly, I see the Wii's motion sensing (as well as the PS3's Sixaxis) as a gimmick. It'll work for some games, but not all, and Ninetndo made the mistake of making those controls damn near manditory.

Yeah but it's the 'gimmick' the console is based off. It's true that it can be a little tiring for some games. All in all though, I think it's a good choice for any genre. It's just harder to have a 20 some hour session where you go at it.

hopefully they just set it up for the classic controller and be done with it. motion sensor the gimmick of it isn't truly mandatory (though the only game I can think of that doesn't make the usual use of it is Guitar Hero 3, which simply uses it as a tilt sensor). Even so... if they make the motion controls as simple as they are for Super Mario Galaxy, I'll most likely love MH3.

There was an announcement made by Nintendo that requested that Capcom make full use of the Wiimote. According to the rumor mill, they are going to create a controller for EACH OF THE 11+ WEAPON TYPES... :WTFWTF:

Also, I say mostion sensing is a gimmick because, so far, the only game I've played that made awesome use of it is Wario Ware. In every other game, the motion sensing just feels like a glorified button press.

WTF indeed... I can only hope that 'idea' gets nixed... in any case, I'm researching how I can hook a PSP up to my monitor and a USB gamepad. All hope is not lost for MHF. The only problem I have with the idea of it is the tiny portable system you hafta play it on... I can't even use those little DVD players that have gotten so popular recently... I need a 15"+ screen, dammit! (and 20" wide is better)

Which PSP version do you have? The original "Phat" version or the "Slim"?

With the slim, you can buy RGB cables to hook up to an HDTV (HDTV only...) and play your PSP games on the TV.

If not, you have to hack your PSP and install some custom firmware to play on a PC monitor.

What's your firmware version?

I guess the moitor thing is a pipe dream (no HDTV, and no desire for one... I do everything on a 19" monitor now), but the PSP screen seems okay, anyway. I just need to remember to hold it up high to spare my neck. I don't really wanna try hacking the firmware on a $170 handheld, either... maybe if I knew all the components and built it myself, but...

Only way to hack the Slim PSP is with a Pandora battery (which I can make and help you out but :lollol: distance) and it's 100% effective. Dark Alex (the developer of the PSP custom Firmware) is extremely talented at what he does. Too bad, CFW is where it's at...

Anyways, see if you can get Xlink Kai up and running. I'll help you trudge through the infamous "9 hour*" learning curve that scare away most players High Five

you weren't kidding about that learning curve in MHF2. I thought I was doin' okay until I tried to take down something big... I keep running outta supplies trying to take down a frickin' Giadrome(3-star quest)... it never kills me (rarely hits me, the monkey-things are harder to dodge)... but I wind up runnin outta hot drinks and rations before I can kill it... I think I get close because it's constantly running away... is there a way to stun it so I can take it down? tranq bombs seem to do nada to it...

Flash bombs = flash bug + gunpowder

Throw it at a monsters viewing range and he'll be stunned for a good minute or two.

I highly recommend you create a heavy type weapon with at least some green sharpness. Great swords, Long Swords, Hammers, Hunting Horns, Lances, or Gunlances can knock any 'Drome down in a few hits. That'll give you a few more free hits before he gets back up.

Check this place out for the weapon creation trees.

Also: Tranq bombs only work when you have a large monster ensnared in a trap.

hmm... that could be the problem. I was trying to demonize the damn thing to death with twin daggers. guess I'll hafta get good with my new iron katana now.
also... where do you find gunpowder? Never seen it. I have like a million flash bugs, though.
... you wouldn't happen to know an easy place to pick up earth crystals, would ya? I'm always short on 'em when I'm tryin to make/upgrade weapons... they seem to be the rarest mining result for me no matter where I go...

**edit**
*looks through weapon trees*
d'oh... I could easily have a paladin lance by now... those things are cheap as hell to make...

Yeah, duals are actually advanced weapons. I wouldn't recommend using them unless you are quick on your feet and have a third thumb for the dodge button... plus, unless you have infinite stamina (done by drinking Mega Juices... Well-done steak + Power extract) Demonizing is a death sentence.

Remember to hit and run when using light weapons.

You can get earth crystals at the farm.

Remember to go to the training school once you get the hang of things to get Pokke points easily (You can also sell certain items too). That way you can upgrade your farm's mining spots. Remember to mine all the time. Bring pickaxes everywhere you go and mine when you have a chance. Ores are extremely important in the beginning of the game.

You can buy gunpowder from the old lady next to the guild hall, or you can mix Nitroshrooms (found at the farm and forest&hills mushroom spots or bought from the old lady) + Fire herbs (bought from old lady or young lady merchant next to armory).

Here's a video of me killing Giadrome with a hammer

...wasted one with my katana. it had no chance to run.
nitroshrooms and fire herbs? sweet! I thought they were useless...
haven't seen an option to upgrade my mine... just fields, shrooms, fishing, and a boat. the cat next to the mine said something about 'mining points' ...
I've been getting pokke points off of account items in gathering quests... training is quicker?
...nice job with the lizard... quicker than my katana job, even. how'd you perma-upgrade your health/stamina? that extreme long-distance sprint looks handy... also, how do you capture PSP video?

**edit** it won't let me combine flashbugs and gunpowder Sad
...looked it up... I guess it's 'bomb material' that I need... wazzat?

I did the health/stamina thing by eating food cooked by my cats. For that much health, you need 5 cats though...

Yeah, my bad. Flashbombs are made by flashbugs and bomb material. You can buy bomb materials from the old lady, or you can make it with stone + sap plant.

Mining points are usually gigantic X's or slashes found on walls.

I captured the video using Custom Firmware 3.71 M33-3 and iRshell 3.7 with Remote Joy Plus.

so... I finally caved in to all the hype and bought Portal. and finished it. and had fun. quite a lot of fun.
The only two gripes I have are: a) too short (but still Awesome! for $20), and b) The adware that installs with it (Steam. 'content delivery system' my ass) can suck the barrel of my .45.

anyway... I now fully understand the phrase "The Cake is a Lie"... however, I feel I must point out the inaccuracy of said phrase.

Ahhh I miss my monster huntin days... Kut-ku genocide was my favorite pastime, especially since they uused to annoy the hell out of he when I first started.

Anybody have any idea when Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G is coming out in english (if at all)? I just lost all my data for MHF2, which sucks since I can't be bothered playing another 40+hrs to get back where I used to be.

On another note, any Ace Atrorney Fans in the house?

I'm a seasonal game tester so I've got 'em all. Systems that is.

But for leisure, I prefer my PSP, DS, and Wii.

Btw, you guys do realise that it wouldn't be too difficult to run Wii games on a PC, right? You just need to get some drivers (and an input slot) for the sensor bar and find some way to emulate the Wii's API. Or something like that, basically you can do the same thing as with any other console or as WINE does with Windows.

And when I say too difficult, I mean "not impossible".

Meh.

one would think that emulating the Xbox would be easier than the Wii, what with it running a modified version of Windows CE... never looked into the 360, but if you could emulate it at least the hardware wouldn't get a chance to 'piss itself and die' (I still can't believe Microsoft decided to start actually building hardware, considering their reliability track record with mere software).

as for the cake...

I hear ya. About 3/4 of all the people I know who have gotten a 360 have had to get it repaired or replaced due to the Red Ring of Death. One friend has even had 3 separate replacements. NO
