LOL Five_X I love reading your posts now.
I had heard (locally anyways) that it was very good. Those who have played it say its focused more on combat then your usual questing RPG, but I havent tried it yet myself.

Re: Vidya games!!
DA2 does have its good qualities. Among them are, of course, simply stunning visuals, an admittedly clever story-telling mechanic and, contrary to what you've apparently heard, theprodigalson, an almost ridiculous amount of side-questing to do. It took me almost my entire first week playing it just to get through all of the side-quests available in Act 1.
The bad qualities, however, out-shine anything good that Bioware managed to put together. Virtually every single RPG element has been dumbed down to the point of condescension. As you stated in your post, the game's focus is very much more on the combat. Now I wouldn't mind this, except for the fact that the game is almost designed around the idea that your main character, Hawke, is God. No questions. Regardless of what class you choose, Hawke will, hands-down, be superior in that role than any other party member. This is most obvious if you make Hawke a mage. If you do, it's pretty much mandatory that he/she be a healer, as Hawke has the best healing magic in the game.
What makes the other party members themselves even weaker is the fact that you can't outfit them with equipment beyond weapons and accessories, like rings and amulets. Each extra character has their own unique outfit that can't be changed. Occassionally you can find items that ugrade the equipment, but aside from that their are stuck with the same defensive stats as what they start with.
The item system itself utilizes a "5 star" rating that I find completely unneccessary and, frankly, kind of insulting. Based on your character's class and level, each piece of equipment is ranked from 1-5 stars, based on how "appropriate" and "effective" it is for your character. As if I'm too stupid to read the items' stats and figure out for myself whether this new sword I just picked up is better than the one I'm using. What am I, a four year old?
In short, if you're not that much into the RPG genre of games, you'll probably find nothing wrong with DA2. But for those like me, who very much are and very much enjoy the detailed complexity that a good RPG offers, the horrendously watered-down aspects makes DA2 a dismal failure. Especially considering that the DA franchise is specifically marketed as a "tactical RPG".

Re: Vidya games!!
Yah from what ive read Dragon Age 2 is a totall letdown from, even to the point that your decisions in the game don't make a damn differance...Let those that haven't played through it find out why. In the first one your choices made massive impacts on how the story ended, from what Ive heard this is not the case with the 2nd one, this was a huge selling point of dragon age: Origens.
Also if I want to play hack-n-slash, what they seemed to turn the new Dragon Age into, I can think of better engins for it Like Torchlight or Diablo 1 2 and hopefully 3
This seems to be a common trend lately Dumbing down games to its Detriment, Dragon Age to this, Elder Scrolls 3 to Elder Scrolls 4 (damnit I liked the fact I could mix and match my armor down to the pauldrens.) It seems these game companies need to be reminded that people who normally play RPGs and Tactical Based games arn't stupid or need things dumbed down, Keep the Dumbing down to Hack-n-Slash and shooters please.

Re: Vidya games!!
I loved Dragon Age: Origins. It had the same sort of spirit that went into Baldur's Gate (though nothing will ever reach that plateau).
Then Dragon Age 2 came around and I immediately knew they had "fixed" what wasn't broken. Another franchise gone down the road to simplification and mediocrity. I give them a pass on Mass Effect, but only because it's one of the best fleshed out and I forgive a space opera becoming more action-y than a "ye olde tyme" fantasy.

Re: Vidya games!!
The problems with DA2 become glaringly obvious when you look at the circumstances in which it was created. DAO was announced 5 years before it was released, much of that time was spent in development. Granted, the length could mostly be contributed to the fact that they were creating an entirely new game engine, but that's still quite a while to spend on a game, and the result was pretty darned good, even when compared to the RPG classics of the 90s. In comparison, DA2 was announced only a few months after the original came out, and EA expected Bioware to be able to overhaul the original and create a comparable game with only about a year's development time, simply not something any studio, no matter how awesome, could do.
That does not mean Bioware is blameless, however. There are some things which seemed inexcusable, like making the majority of choices inconsequential. In DAO you could play the game 5 times and get 5 completely different Fereldens, but in DA2 you might be able to get 2 Kirkwalls, both of which look very similar to the point of being indistinct. Many of the problems are the additions, not the fact that they didn't have enough time. They could have easily added more choice and consequences to the game simply by not doing some of the things they did.
The only thing that sort of makes me want to play it again is the fact that Bioware makes classes that are very fleshed-out to the point where simply playing a different class can really change how the game is played. If only the other glaring problems weren't there, it would have been just as if not better than DAO.

Re: Vidya games!!
I still don't get the hate. I didn't see it as dumbed down, I saw it as a step forward for a generic, yet good, CRPG, making it into its own being.
Mass Effect 2, though, I think was a little better and a little worse than the original.

Playing The 3rd Birthday on PSP, as much as I like the gameplay and the fanservice....I wish it didn't happen to this particular franchise. Parasite Eve after 10 years gets turned into a fanservice fest with rather a lolwut story.
The game mechanics on it are great though another game that should have been on PS3.

Re: Vidya games!!
So, Portal 2 came out earlier this week. I'm happy to say that it lived up to my expectations of being awesome. Both the single-player and co-op are great fun, and the animation of everything is really some of the best I've seen in a game. The soundtrack is really good, too. It really adds to the atmosphere, and at some points it even sounds like something out of a Pixar movie.
The only thing I don't really like about it is the inclusion of hats in the co-op, a la TF2. I don't mind them in TF2, but here they just look stupid on the robots, IMO. Aside from that, though, it's a great game. I'd highly recommend it to fans of puzzle games, Portal 1, and really just about anyone looking for a good game.

Yes, when you get Portal 2 for PS3, you have to create a Steam account, and you get the PC version of it for free. This is also what makes the PS3-PC co-op compatibility work. If you already have a Steam account, you should be able to use that on the PS3.

Re: Vidya games!!
The hardest of the hardcore have tried to play City Bus Simulator 2010, and they are all whimpering in a pool of their own tears.
I just picked up Digital Combat Simulations/ Eagle Dynamics A-10C Warthog simulator. Like it's predecessor "Black Shark", a simulator of the KA-50 Hokum attack helicopter, A-10C is a switch for switch accurate simulator of the A-10C attack aircraft (classified stuff still redacted, of course).
It's a lot more forgiving than KA-50, given the aircraft's inherently more stable nature, as well as things actually making sense (I still can't figure out why the Ruskies designed things the way they did in the Hokum). A mix of keyboard and joystick controls isn't very intuitive, due to the complexity of the sim, but a few runs through the trainers and it starts to come together. For hardcore sim freaks like me, it's a bit of bliss I've been longing for since Jane's F-15.
I've even ordered a Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog stick and throttle set (my wallet is now numb with shock) for it, as it's modeled after the real deal and will complement the simulation quite well.

Assassin's Creed in 3d, anyone?
In other news, how'd you get a 3d tv linked? I thought you needed a HDMI+ethernet and HDCP enabled on the computer (which apparently is hard to get)?

my pc has a built in Blu ray,and has HDMI out,i was playing Crysis 2 which has a 3d option, you select the display options as side by side and the tv and glasses do the rest

Re: Vidya games!!
Well, I had a Gameboy. (I used to cry over it when I didn't have one that time. *shame* )
My PS1 kinda flew somewhere out there. My PS2 is outta action (broken controllers. ._.), but still functional.
PC, for online games.
PSP.
PS3. though my games in this consoles is limited. (FFXIII, Blackops, Tekken...any suggestions? xD)
The games I usually play are RPGs; FPS makes me go get a headache.
Final Fantasy VII, VIII, X, XIII
Dissidia 012
Suikoden
Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria.
Ragnarok Online
Dynasty Warriors
uh...etc.
are the games I like

Is it an Alienware, by any chance?
I know the 4 series nVidia have HDMI+Ethernet and HDCP, so they can do it. But frankly, I don't want 3d TV, so the monitors are a better bet for me. Much cheaper

Same, I'd reccomend Kingdom Hearts, The Last Remnant (I don't think there's a console version of that, but it's on Steam), and of course, the Humble Bundle! www.humblebundle.com
Trine is supposed to be amazing (going to give it a try when I get my 3d glasses) and Splot thus far has been quite fun. I don't know about Shadowgrounds and Jack Claw, but I know that Frozenbyte put a heck of a lot of work into these games. Even if they aren't your thing, I'd be surprised if you didn't at least appreciate them

Valkyria Chronicles for PS3 is easily one of my favorite PS3 games, let alone RPG, of all time. The artwork is beautiful and the story is wonderful. It's been out for a few years now so I'd assume it's fairly well priced. It is a turn based strategy RPG however, so that may not be your cup of tea.

Re: Vidya games!!
On the subject of 3D gaming, I'll be honest and say that I don't really see the point in it. To me, it just seems gimmicky, and I can't really see how it would add anything to the game, aside from some sort of novelty value. One could argue that it adds immersion, but for me personally, all a game needs to be immersive is a good atmosphere through graphics, level design, sound, and music. Adding 3D to that just seems like tacking it on, perhaps to try and make up for a lack of atmosphere.
To each his own, I'm just not a fan of 3D anything, really.
