Professor Voodoo wrote:I was in New York City on Monday (the day of the Boston bombing) and what surprised me was how little increased security there seemed to be. There's always a lot of Police & security around landmarks and transport hubs but nobody was checking cars or bags at all. I sat in a car parked (illegally ) in front of the New York State Supreme Court for 15 minutes and nobody even looked twice at me.
The only indication I got that something wrong up came at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, where I heard one Police officer ask another "You heard the news, right?"
Even the MARSEC level aboard the ferry was at its lowest tier.
To be fair, NYC is not Boston.
My friend from Jersey says: "Also, the amount that people in New York City don't care is fantastically high."

It was a former Air France 747-400 converted to a freighter and operated by National Air Cargo. All 7 aboard (4 pilots, 2 mechanics and 1 loadmaster) were killed on impact.

Jesus Christ, that's horrifying. Anyone know why it was going so slow at the beginning? Had the load just shifted at that point?

I dare say it's just an optical illusion because of perspective. A 747 needs about 200mph ground speed before it can even lift off.El Conservatore wrote: Anyone know why it was going so slow at the beginning?
A bit late for that. According to what Kisk said he was one of the 7 killed.Nachtsider wrote:Some loadmaster's head will be on the chopping block very soon.

....the usefulness of such a weapon seems questionable then. Unless you manufactured the bullet IN the barrel and had the grip be reusable, and then just ejected the entire breech+barrel.

Well then, ou could just replace the printed barrel with a more metallic one after completion (and other components that break easily) and it would then be one powerful machine as good as an original gun.

especially as the printer cost between six to eight thousand, the guy who made this gun named it after a WWII assassination weapon, unlike the original liberator you can't easily reload this one so in fact it is worse than a 70 year old mass produced piece of crap weapon the sole reason for which was to kill an enemy soldier and get a decent gun off him !El Conservatore wrote:Well then I'd just buy a proper all metal forged steel handgun, because I do NOT trust polymer components to hold up to repeated heat and pressure of that magnitude.

It'd make for an easy to smuggle prison weapon, however. Given the ease that they can make their own INSIDE prison, getting one of these sent in and hiding it from searches (no metal parts = no problem) will be a breeze.

Yeah, but the bit where the prisoner's hand is blown off from the exploding plastic shell will make your job easier. Plenty of DNA evidence to pin the perp, right?

CCTV cameras are so prevalent in major UK cities that "Big Brother" really is watching you.
The article does have a point that government surveillance within the EU is more reactive - if they think you are doing something wrong, they will start watching you. So they look at what you are doing.
In the US, it's more proactive - programs like Carnivore, PRISM and Echelon pretty much are designed to collect information in general, which can then be reviewed at a later date if a "person of interest" is identified to see what they were doing.

In a nutshell, they were commenting on how the US presidential election season is kicking off now, over three full years before the official Election Day whereas in Australia, the sitting PM just called for a new election in four weeks. They also noted how Australia has their own counterparts to recent Republican and Democratic candidates including:
"The Rick Perry 'I Can't Remember My Own Platform' Candidate": Liberal Party candidate Jaymes Diaz, who could not even remember one of his party's six point plan to stop the immigration of Boat People.
"The Sarah Palin 'I'm an Underinformed, Right-Wing Woman Thrust Into a National Spotlight I'm Not Only Unprepared for, but at Times Seem to Barely Comprehend" Candidate": One Nation candidate Stephanie Banister. Well, I should note it's "former" One Nation candidate since, in true Sarah Palin fashion, she quit her job - in this case, one she didn't even have yet.
"The Anthony Weiner "I Sent A Picture of My Wiener" Candidate": Queensland MP Peter Dowling (kudos to SEVEN's lead-in of the story: "Member Exposed").

LOL ! so pretty much the same as everywhere else then, whoever you vote for you end up with the Government !
basically a lot of people who enjoy the power, the perks it brings and are barely interested in rocking the boat unless they get something out of it !
Mind you the UK's voting age population couldn't care less as you can't really tell one bunch of Private schoolboys/and a few girls apart from the other !

I dunno, part of me wants to like Peter Dowling more now as a return to old-school Australian politics of the PM Bob "I'm so drunk I'm going to fall into this goldfish pond and hold the world record for fastest drinking of a yard glass" Hawke variety.
Either way, it's going to be another election which is a case of voting for who I dislike the least rather than like the most.

Baby Hope finally has a name! Angelica Castillo, born in 1987, making her 4 years old in 1991 when she was found dead in a beer cooler...
And Conrado Juarez, her cousin who is now 52 years old, was arrested for sexually assaulting and killing her.
Personal Rant: He should be doused with gasoline and set on fire. Damn sicko does not deserve to live, especially since he had 22 years Baby Hope, Angelica Castillo, did not have. She would have been 26 if she would have lived. Excuse me, I'm going to beat up a wall with my fists.

Would have been funny if it had been true - the original award was set aside and the retrial just went to the jury yesterday.PolosElite23 wrote:Win!

One of the benefits of being the only SuperPower is that you don't need to be subtle.
The logo for the latest intelligence satellite.
As for the 2012 mission patches, the three dragons one for the previous mission (NROL-38) was cool.
