Ever cry because of a movie?
Another random topic made by yours truly!
I cry a lot when I watch movies. Sometimes I cry just once in a certain movie, and sometimes I cry no matter how many times I see it.
I cry a lot when I watch Star Wars Revenge of the Sith.
It never fails to make me cry when I watch anything with Orlando Bloom in it, if he gets hurt. (Troy, PotC, Haven, Kingdom of Heaven)
Edward Sissorhands always makes me cry.
I just realized I cry the most when I watch The Land Before Time. I don't just cry though, I wail, and sob. There's something about this movie that it just so heartbreaking.
Watch this all the way to the end and tell me that your eyes don't even tear up. Just thinking about it makes my eyes water...

Re: Ever cry because of a movie?
I cannot watch the short "Presence" from the animated film Robot Carnival without bursting into tears. It's the same in the Season One Christmas episode of The West Wing - "In Excelsis Deo" when they bury that veteran to "The Little Drummer Boy". Just typing this is actually making me as I think about them.
I've only seen both scenes once. If they are on the TV, I literally have to leave the room.
Air and Kanon both brought tears to my eyes at times.
The film Titanic destroyed me. It was one of the few times I really lost myself in a movie and suspended my sense of belief that I effectively was on that ship watching it all happen. Effectively watching 1500 people die before my eyes was something I was not emotionally ready for. Especially how stoic they were about it. I didn't cry in the theater, but when I got home about 20 minutes later, I just collapsed into tears. I've bought the movie on LD and DVD, but I have never seen it a second time and never will.

- Spoiler:
- The "goal" scene in Air, when Misuzu Kamio collapses into Yukito's arms and dies, just killed me.

For some reason, dog movies make me cry. No matter how cheesy it is, when a dog dies, I start tearing up. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Eight Below.

The films (that I can remember) that cause me to tear up are:
- Corpse Bride
- Spoiler:
- Emily never finds the love she seeks and in the end only achieves oblivion.
- Spoiler:
- The robot sacrifices itself for the humans.
- Spoiler:
- Chiyoko spent her life in a fruitless pursuit of the painter, not knowing that he had been killed by the police .
- Spoiler:
- A joyful moment at the end when Taeko decides to not return to the city and returns to the farm

E.T. ...when I was five. I honestly don't remember why.
in recent memory... Grave of the Fireflies (repeatedly), and the Bucket List (when Edward essentially kicks Carter to the curb for bringing him to see his daughter) both caused me to tear up a bit. I think Fireflies elicited a sob or two.
nothin' else really springs to mind (though if ya count TV series, my first couple times through GSG season one were rough)

I have had the DVD for this sitting in my rack for about 3 years now. I have continued to put off watching it because of its reputation as a tear-jerker. I have to be in the right mood to want to watch that kind of a film.

I too had a hard time getting through most of the GSG episodes. The only episode I won't watch at this point is the last episode

I was like that also when I was younger. I found, though, that as I got older, I changed as friends and family died or were subjected to horrendous illnesses or circumstances. Sentimentality now creeps up at unexpected times and places so I try to choose my film & TV viewing with care now-a-days.

Films generally don't make me cry. They'll create emotion, but nothing like as powerful as a well written book. Whilst I did crack up during parts of Twilight (New Moon), the part just after made me cry...
- Spoiler:
- The bit of New Moon I'm talking about is just after Edward leaves Bella. Where it has just the month written on the page, I mean. I found that hilarious, purely because of the way it was done

I actually don't cry in movies. Like, ever. When i watch stuff with friends that's depressing, or supposed to make you cry (Titanic, for example) I just....don't. I don't know why.
However, Grave of the Fireflies surprised me SO much the first time i watched it. Granted, i was also, like.....eight, i tihnk. Seven or eight. I don't know, but i was very young- so naturally i cried. ONly the first time, though, not anymore. Now i just love it.
Also, when i was little, there was this movie i would always watch around the winter time ( little as in 3-5) because that's what my nanny would stick in the DVD player. It was this movie about, like, a snowman...or something. It was liek this little boy who built a snowman, and at night he came to life and they were great friends, but then the sun came up and the snowman melted. It wasn't Frosty. It was good. It was such a beautiful movie, bu ti can't for the life of me remember the name, although i'm pretty sure it's something simple like "The Snowman". But i'd always like, sob when the snowman melted, to the point where i refused to watch the movie at all anymore.

Re: Ever cry because of a movie?
Many a movie has made me tear up, but only one piece of media in my lifetime of media viewing has made actually weep and wail was Charlotte's Web.
The book is a classic, but the animation cannot be disregarded. It was just that well done. At least the book prepared you for the scene (and I think everybody knows the scene I mean). The animation fired both barrels at you when you least suspected it.
This was the scene in the living room in the summer of 1989:
My (pain in the ass to this day) Little Brother: Awww! You kwying wyke a wittle baby?
Me(still weeping): SHUT THE FUCK UP BEFORE I KILL YOU! YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT!!
My Little Brother: MOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
The rest is pretty self-explanatory.

Yeah -- Grave of the Fireflies is the only feature-length Studio Ghibli film that I haven't seen yet, so I do need to get around to watch it.
Voices of a Distant Star was an interesting short film but I wasn't emotionally drawn into it. I thought that the manga worked the storyline better. Also, Joe Haldeman's Forever War (1974) dealt with a similar situation (although not as individualistic as VoDS) so the plot wasn't new to me.
Strangely enough, I found myself more touched by She and Her Cat (which was an extra on the VoDS DVD).

I didn't cry at the end of that one, but I do tear up on occasion listening to the OST. I think I might have shed some tears watching Byousoku 5 Centimeter as that had some moments of sheer artistic beauty.
I watched Grave in the theater in Japan, which was fortunate because it was a double-feature followed by Tonari no Totoro so that was a heck of an emotional roller-coaster - cry with sadness then cry with happiness.

There are only 3 movies that made me cry
Forrest Gump - When his mom and Jenny pass away ; ;
(recommend to anyone who loves the movie to go to Bubba gump shrimp, place is filled with Forrest Gump related stuff.. foods good too!)
Tropic Thunder - Robert Downie Jr with Toby Maguire LOL also when Kirk "found himself"
A beautiful mind - After watching the movie and thinking about it, it choked me up.

I admit I cannot think of a book that made me cry. A few have made me angry, though.
I guess it's because I'm more affected by the visuals and music then I am the raw story. In a movie or TV show, I have all three. In a book, I only have the last.

Re: Ever cry because of a movie?
I also find that a number of pieces of music make me cry when I listen to them. Usually piano music.
I'm reminded of part of the ad for Sony's Super Audio CD system - "Are you moved to tears by music in a language you don't even understand?"
Wada Kanako's "Ano Sora wo Dakishimete (Embrace That Sky)" end theme from the Kimagure Orange Road movie always brings the tears, but a lot of that is just guilt brought on by the movie, itself.
TENMON's soundtracks for Makoto Shinkai's works especially have an effect on the tear ducts. And some of the soundtracks of Studio Ghibli films and others can bring a tear to the eye when I listen to them, as well.

Re: Ever cry because of a movie?
Okay so there are a lot of movies that have made me cry, and a few series as well. I must confess though there is one movie that didn't make me even get teary eyed. Which was in fact Grave of Fireflies. I know, I know it's tragic, but it just didn't tug on my heart strings.
Movies that have made me cry: Forest Gump, Schindlers list, the Bucket List [despite thinking much of it], The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, Philidelpha, Princess Mononoke, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissuo, The Diving Bell & the Butterfly, and so many more
Series is a shorter list. There was Haibane Remini, Gunsliner girl, The end of Cowboy Bebo, Full Metal Alchemist [you know when], and that's about all I can think of.

Don't know about crying, but I seem to wear a couple of mm off my teeth whenever Rico and Jean have a scene.
I think I cried a little at the end of Berserk. Pretty bad stuff.

I didn't cry, but I did tear up on occasion this week watching Coraline in the not-home theater and WALL-E in the home theater.
Both movies were epic good.

Re: Ever cry because of a movie?
Schindlers list was touching, especially the ending. Episodes of some anime (namingly Natusme Yuujin and Shigofumi) also moved me to tears.
Voice of the Distant Stars was a huge impact, but I did not need a bucket for tears -- For me, the emotion it elicits was a profund mix of sadness, awe, and longing.
Wall-E almost drove me to tears on the airplane. But another awesome moment, when the captain wrestled for countrol with the bot, superceded the sad parts in my memory because of the song "So Spake Zatrazucha" from 2001 A Space Odessey.

My brother cried for E.T. when we were little.LoC978 wrote:E.T. ...when I was five. I honestly don't remember why.)
Honestly, I think I'm messed up because... I don't cry for movies... Only once that I can remember... It was a weekend that my father had me and we went to see Dragon Heart and he always left us in the movies and picked us up after they were done... (I don't wanna know what he would do when we weren't around...) And I remember crying because the dragon sacrificed himself and became a star. I really cried, I think, because I just wanted to be home with my grandma... Heh...

Re: Ever cry because of a movie?
I saw Brokeback Mountain with Rico-Chan, my sis and my best friend yesterday
and I was weeping... they all made fun of me (;_; I dunno why it was such a great Film).... then we saw an Heath Ledger special and I think we all were moved to tears..... and then when we saw the Oscars (Hugh Jackman was awesome ^0^) and Heath Ledger won one no one cried (okay maybe that was because everyone besides me and my sis was sleeping...)
Well now that I saw Brokeback Mountain I want even worse than before t0 watch Batman
