It is so similar with GSG.

I think Aida Yu took GSG concept from Leon.

So sad and gloomy and the love that cant be accepted...



In the movie, when Matilda says "love or death", the dead scenes of Elza and Henrietta

running through my head...

Wow, I gotta get out more often....

A friend just showed me the extended cut of that film. Seeing the extra footage was very cool, although I can see why each scene was deleted from the theatrical cut.

Definately worth a look if you're a fan of the film!

Serenediptously, the Blu-Ray edition has just been released as well - it has both the theatrical and the extended cuts included, so you can compare them side-by-side. Unfortunately, I don't own a Blu-Ray player...!

I've actually only ever seen the extended/international cut of the film... though my understanding is that the theatrical cut very much changes the tone in Leon and Mathilda's relationship with what it leaves out.

Even if I'd never gotten into GSG: it's got Jean Reno and Natalie Portman in it... and was directed by Luc Besson.... so I probably was going to wind up watching it at some point anyway.

To be brief, the US theatrical release was much better balanced between the Leon/Mathilda story and Gary Oldman's character, Stansfield the corrupt police officer.

In the extended cut there's a lot more focus on Leon training Mathilda, which fleshes out their relationship but draws the eye away from Stansfield. By the time we return to him the audience feels like "Oh...I'd forgotten all about that guy" which kind of screws up the overall flow & timing of the film.

Hope that makes at least a little sense.
