Yaay! I was about to change his name completely, but never mind. BTW he's german, but I got the name by mixing Zeron, Zareen, and Charon.Nachtsider wrote:Hey, I'm all for it - I find it a little funny that you need my blessing, though. It's an unusual name - where does he hail from?

Ah, German. I see.
While we're on the subject of Germany...
You know all this talk about there being an Illuminati or New World Order? I'd like to ask, with all sincerity - what difference would it make if there were, indeed, an Illuminati/New World Order? Would it be bad to have them in charge? This isn't a sarcastic or rhetorical question - I really want to know.

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
depending on your phone... what TTIO said. though generally nowadays they put ringtones separate from music in the phone OS... unless you have Blackberry OS, Palm/Garnet OS, Windows Mobile, or Android on it.
Also, if your phone doesn't link up to your PC easily, try sending to your phone via email (which is how I got a bunch of GSG pics onto mine).
also, tsun, cutting up an audio file isn't hard. In most editing software, the sound is given a visual representation (denoting volume). You just listen to the file, note where the part you want begins and ends on-screen, then drag to select the rest of it, and delete.
here's what it looks like in the program TTIO mentioned. Personally, I like using Cool Edit more, 'cause I like ripping audio from video files... but that one comes at the cost of some slightly tricky piracy.

Got the program just today and tested out a 20-second section of the OP song to Serial Experiments Lain, Duvet, with it. My stupid-ass phone has a 300 KB size limit for downloads of any kind so I had to trim off a second from the clip in order to download it. Otherwise, the clip comes in crystal-clear on my phone as a ringtone.

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
Using my 'Print Screen' function to take screencaps from Windows Media Player videos isn't working. I don't know how to describe this weirdness; the images I paste onto my Paint working area refuse to keep still. In that when I unpause the video, the video sort of 'continues playing ' in Paint, too. And when I turn Media Player off, the image I've saved turns black. Help me, please!

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
I got something for ya bro.
I use a program called FRAPS. its a piece of in game recording software which is often used to create fan made in game footage of the game play.
However this can also be used with media player and the like because it utilized the same kind of 3D environment as a game which Fraps seems to recognize easily. It is also capable of making screen shots and saving them into JPG easily.
While recording in game though, and this also apply's to when your recording from media player or Youtube, Fraps doesn't compress the files it creates because this would take up to much CPU with would render a game unplayable.
10 minutes worth of recording can easily come down to 4GB.
Anyways, here is the cracked installer I have: http://www.mediafire.com/?tmyrtdljmtw

I don't think its possible to take screencaps from Media Players on XP.
I suggest downloading VLC media player.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
Its a free media player that can play and crapload of more files than WMP. You can 'snapshot' option to take a screenshot of whatever you're watching, and it'll automatically save the image to your Pictures folder.

It's relative. I'm studying in Singapore (It's on the equator) now and that kind of condition is actually considered cold over here.
If you don't accept that, then I'd say it's caffeine addiction. Nothing more

I haven't used Yahoo! in ages. But I'm guessing it would be under a "new" or "compose" tab.
If you're using it to store notes or files, you don't even need to send it to yourself. Just use "Save as Draft".

I don't know what's going on, but my computer and my mice don't like each other anymore.
I've got the mouse plugged in, but the PC says it doesn't sense a mouse. It worked fine yesterday.
I don't know if anyone can help with this.
Btw, the pc is win98, It used to have 2000, but I think erased something I shouldn't have, since 2000 and even the sound drive(if that's what it is) are gone.

That's a bit hard. I wanted to ask you to go to Hardware Manager and see if anything's amiss but without a mouse that's going to be an issue. My recommendation is to seek professional help

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
Is it possible to switch the default mobile browser on a cell phone? The reason I ask is that I recently downloaded a mobile browser called Bolt that has built-in streaming video capabilities which my phone's default browser (AT&T's Media.Net) lacks. But whenever I try playing a video through Bolt, the phone switches over from Bolt to Media.Net to play the video which won't play it. Any way I can get my phone to change its default browser to Bolt?

Depends on the phone's OS, I would assume...
But I can't tell you any more than that, I don't even have a working phone right now
EDIT: And does anyone know of any GPL libraries that I could justify using in a small Windows app that will read information from a file, put it into an array, do a few calculations with it (including tallying), and then write it out to another file? Only, I can't think of any other way to force Xerox to make this app open-source without them realising that I'm trying to do that...

My turn to ask a question
Can anyone recommend a good web browser? I'm using Firefox 3.5.2 and recently it's been extremely slow. If there's anything better I'm taking it

Yeah, Firefox 3.5 sucks. I can't believe how slow it is now. Even with eight cores it just stalls most of the time. Which is too bad because I really liked FF as a browser.
I went back to Apple Safari 4 for both PC and Mac and it's significantly faster.

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
Firefox has always been too self-consciously indie for my tastes. It's not used it because it's a decent browser, it's used so you can undermine Micro$oft and stick it to the Man ROW ROW FYTE DA POWAH. Bleurgh.
I've always been happy to use Internet Explorer. It serves all of my needs, and I don't see the need to switch for the sake of a brand name.

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
Well IE isn't an option for us Mac users since Microsoft stopped development with Version 5 and removed it from their servers for download.
I used FireFox because it was truly cross-platform and made it easier for me to transfer settings between my PCs and my Macs. I also liked the customization and add-on options that I found improved my browsing experience.
