There is a limit of 15 documents in the "Document Manager" section. If you delete one it will not effect what you have in the published stories section...these will remain intact and available.

It is here... It's a city parking violation to park against the flow of traffic. Don't ask me WHY... all I know is that it makes great PC to issue citations.

And having ordered the two DVD sets for Shinryaku! Ika Musume...

I am both pleased and annoyed, but I love Ika-chan so I pre-ordered it. On the plus side, the DVDs are ripped to Apple iTunes so I can take it with me on the iPhone/iPad/MacBook Pro so not a total loss.

And Darker than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini ended up being a DVD+Blu-ray set. dancin\\'

I' m not asking "have you ever had a problem fixed" - they break stuff and fix stuff all the time. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever received a reply.

I don't know if anyone here has traveled in Japan, but I ask because I am working on planning a trip for next spring / summer and I am curious how my proposed itinerary looks. I plan to try and go to mid range accomodations and such so I can have more to spend on actual tours, museums, shrines, etc. My main concern is if there is a city or area i should see that im missing or if im spending more time in one place than needed. Any advice you guys can offer will be greatly appreciated.

I think it'd be well worth your while (assuming you're a Ghibli fan) to book yourself a ticket to the Ghibli museum while you're in Tokyo. You'll want to set aside at least half the day to do it mind as it's in an outer suburb of the city so a bit of a hike to get to. On the upside its in a really pleasant area which is well worth some time spent in. Alternately, plan to sight see afterwards near where you're staying or around one of the major stations. From memory to get to the JR line interchange you'll go through Shibuya staion anyway.

My Blu-ray of Strike Witches arrived today, so I can now enjoy pantsu in high-defninition.

What I'd like to ask is why hasn't anime embraced 3D TV and 3D Blu-ray? It would bring a whole new dimension to the "Gainax Bounce" - literally. Wink

I'm not sure what you mean by not embracing Blu-Ray. Japan is pretty much all Blu-Ray nowadays and anime is no different. However, the colossal flop of the 3D TV market was so bad it threatened the health of the TV industry as a whole. Few consumers bought them, undershooting even bad-case estimates and getting to worst-case. As such, few publishers and studios in general even want to invest in the money it would take to put their stuff in 3D for home videos. In the end, I just think people want to see it in the theaters, but not in their homes.

I have a 3D tv,it works but you get a mild headache after an hour or so,in fact for a certain percentage of people it doesn't work at all and a company is making glasses that cancel out the 3D effect so people who can't watch a film in 3D can go watch it in 2D !

So I'm watching Chopped: Grill Masters and one of the mystery basket ingredients is Maple Bacon Ale.

Maple syrup. Bacon. Beer.

Why not just call it "Canada in a Bottle?" Incoming!

Seriously, it's evidently an homage by Rogue Ales of Newport, Oregon to the Bacon Maple Bar offered by Voodoo Doughnut of Portland, Oregon.

Post by Kiskaloo Sun 23 Jun 2013 - 23:33

My question for today is why do US anime licensors choose names very different than what the original Japanese name was?

I have almost missed a number of US releases of shows I like because the name on the box was so different than the Japanese name and it's English translation. If not for seeing reviews on Anime News Network, I'd still be sitting on the fan subs.

The latest case in point is Nekogami Yaoyorozu, which literally translates into "Cat God Myriads". It was one of my favorites of 2011 and was released by NIS America under the title "The Everyday Tales of a Cat God". If not for Bamboo Dong reviewing it last week on "The Shelf", I'd never know it was out. NIS America did the same with Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko, which they released as "Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl" Puzzled

Considering NIS America is a premium product - their box sets run between $50 and $100 and are released in limited sets - I'm kind of surprised they did not use the original Japanese title for these releases - doubly so since they do use the Japanese title for almost all of their other releases.

One of the more egregious example, IMO, is Funimation releasing Asobi ni Ikuyo! ("Let's Go Play!") under the title "Cat Planet Cuties".
...ugh.

Something that occurred to me while rewatching 'Casino Royale' and 'Quantum of Solace' last night.

James Bond is hard on hotels. Invasions from rude strangers, blood on the walls and carpets, broken crockery ... not to mention all the women the maids find horribly murdered in his bed.

So ... why are the desk clerk and concierge always so glad to see him?

My days off are far and few between and so like Kisk, I usually binge watch while handling my house chores (i.e waiting for the floors to dry, folding clothes, waiting for the dishwasher, etc). Also I carry around a cheap 10" tablet in order to get some down time when on break at work.

This is why I love Horrible Subs (no plug intended) because though they are fairly new to the scene, they are one of the last fansub groups still posting in 480p. With cheap tech on the rise, it's refreshing to know that whether on older desktops/laptops or on the $30 tablet that you don't mind losing if it should be victim of backflip-itis, these guys cherish Standard Definition and like Bender, It's Back Baby!

I generally have it playing while I surf the interwebs. I window stuff or have a laptop next to my PC to play the anime.

I also dip into it when I'm stressed. Watching Yui-senpai annoy our dear Azu-nyan in K-On! or Kana irritate Chiaki in Minami-ke really helps with being irritated and tired.

Laughter is the best medicine.

Its also nice watching people save the world. A good story helps keep one's mind off of things.

And I'll ask a question as well, I don't care if its been asked somewhere else...How did you guys get into anime/manga?

To be fair, I'll answer question:

I was 11 years old and the year was 1993. At the time I was being home-schooled(for reasons I shall not divulge) and thus; so long as I kept up with my lessons, took absolute care of the household, and made sure my brothers were cared for; I pretty much got to do whatever I wanted...within reason. One of those things was staying up late whenever the desire to do so compelled me. On one such sleepless night in May, I was watching TBS enjoying the "WCW Great American Bash" re-broadcast that I missed. When it was over I expected to see the opening of a movie. If I found the film interesting or a past favorite, I would continue to watch it. If it wasn't...then I would turn off the TV and get ready for the following morning.

What came on was Robot Carnival. I had yet to be introduced to the works of Ralph Bakshi, and thus I had yet to experience animation outside of Saturday Morning Fodder. So to me at that age...this wasn't just new...this was revolutionary. After an hour and a half (with no commercial interruptions mind), I was absolutely dumbfounded at what I had just witnessed. I laughed...I cried...I saw something that made me stop dead in my tracks. Then next...came Vampire Hunter D. When that was over...the sun was just starting to invade my window. The only thing I could think of...was thank goodness it was a Sunday.

I'm much the same as Kisk - horribly bowdlerized imports from the era before time.

1. Battle of the Planets (the remnants of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman after Sandy Frank butchered it)

2. Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato, of course)

3. Robotech (or Roboblech as I called the latter two seasons)

About that time I fell in with a hardcore anime crowd (who knew people who knew people who knew Kisk, oddly enough) and got a heavy dousing of the good stuff: Zeta Gundam, SPT Layzner, VOTOMS, (one guy was a serious Kunio Okiwara fan, can you tell?)

Other titles at the time: Dirty Pair, Wings of Honneamis (sp?), Bubblegum Crisis, AMP Silent Mobeius, and such like.

Dunno how I missed this, but better late than never I guess.

I actually started with anime rather late in life compared to most of everyone here, with my introduction to the art form being my freshman year of college (or university). My roommate at the time was a big anime fan and he introduced me to it. The first ever anime anything I've watched was the movie Ninja Scroll, followed soon thereafter by Akira. Both movies I found to be quite amazing, though that's not a surprise given that they're both classics. Then he introduced me to an actual series, which he prefaced by saying it might be a very strange and maybe not the best series to give to a beginner. I figured, "What the heck, I'll try it out anyway." The series was Ranma ½. Needless to say, I was hooked immediately, and the weirdness of a guy turning into a girl with cold water (and back with warm water) and all the other hijinks within the show didn't throw me off in the slightest. During my graduate school tenure my anime watching had decreased tremendously, but I (obviously) still have an interest in it and want to get back to watching more regularly.

I will be going to Honduras on the 14th through the 24th. ID already said he wants some, but down in Honduras they sell coffee for ~$5 (two years ago...) a bag to support the orphanage we're at (the main reason I'm offering, to help them make a bit of money). Now, its good coffee. Fresh stuff. My question is, if they are still selling it, would any of you like some?

I will pick it up for you and take it back to America, then ship from my house to you. You would just need to cover the cost of shipping and the coffee. All I am is "importer" for lack of a better term. I will not be taking anything for it, but I know there are coffee lovers among you all who may be interested in Honduran Coffee. I make no promises on this, but if it all works out I will have coffee for those interested.

For all I know they may not be selling, but if they are I will pick it up for interested parties. You do not have to pay me in advance or anything, as I'm not for sure that they will be selling, but I do believe they are.

So, anyone interested?

Ok so I busted my computer...... again...... (It fell of the desk at school).  So what I am trying to figure out is can I swap the I7 processor, RAM, hard drive, and potentially the optical drive into a new computer that I buy here in Mongolia.  So does anyone know if I can do this.

So long as the mobo has a compatible sockets for the processor and RAM, transferring the HDD and optical drive to a new chassis should be easy.

....So long as anything isn't integrated that is. sweat

It’s been a hot second since I’ve been on a forum like this! Does this board work with html? Ie, if I ever wanted to share artwork or images hosted in my domain can I display them with a simple /img> tag or would it be [//img] like so?

Thanks!

If you check the reply box, you'll see a button that offers you a chance to host images. You sort of host them, then move them to the thread:
