Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
A possible workaround would be to download the trial version of Fraps (or buy the full version, it's a useful little tool), use it to make a recording of your video as it plays, and then take the screenshot from the recording instead of the DVD itself.

Video was ripped perfectly with the program. Know the logo can't be rid of since it's a trial version. But is there at least a way to remove the frames per second that is visible at the top corner of the screen when you record a video?
EDIT: Never mind. I found out how to do it. I also noticed Fraps had an option to take screenshots from whatever video source you are playing from. Here's the same scene from Lain I took a shot of from earlier, this time through Fraps. Thanks for the find, Robert Frazer.

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
Okay, I fail at computers. -.- HALP?
I have Windows Movie Maker installed on my computer and I've been trying to make some videos with anime episodes I've downloaded. Unfortunately, whenever I try to play these clips in WMM I get audio but no video. I've got Vista, and I've already installed a few different codecs, but nothing's working.
Thoughts?

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
Try FFMPEG - it will allow Windows Media Player to handle just about anything, so it might do the same for Windows Movie Maker.
I'm a Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere man (now that the latter is back on the Mac), so I have never used WMM.

And if that doesn't work, try converting them to WMV/WMA in an AVI container using Mediacoder, or the likes.

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
I don't play a musical instrument, but it's been remarked that I have the right fingers for the piano - I've been meaning to learn to play for a while, with the ambition of moving on to organs so I can hammer our Adeste Fideles unnecessarily but gloriously loudly at Christmas Mass, but haven't had the time for it.
In the meantime, though, I sing quite frequently in choirs and musicals - I wrapped up a production of Gilbert & Sullivan's Iolanthe in April.

Quick question on using a debit card since I just got one last week. I know the cards use money from your checking account. But is that money deducted every time you use the card for a purchase or does it get deducted from your account on a monthly basis?

It is deducted from your checking account with every transaction.
When you use it as an actual "debit" card, it comes out instantly. If you use it as a credit card, it still comes out of your account, but there is usually a 1-3 day delay as the transaction moves through VISA/MC's clearing house.

Thanks. The reason I'm asking is because I use the card a couple times to add money onto my prepaid cell phone account over the past week and when I asked for my current bank balance, I noticed that the money I used for the debits weren't being deducted.

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
I have a question. I was gonna make a thread but fuck it.
What do you guys do to treat a sore throat? I am a singer and I need some help here.... I have some remedies but I wanna try some new stuff my body can tolerate. Whenever I try to sooth my throat my post nasal drip kicks up a notch and ruins me.
I've tried:
Honey in tea
Citrus (like limes etc.)
Garlic (yuk!)
plain tea
coconut water (works but very limited and works best on dry throat)
Help a sista out!

Soda dries out the throat. And sugar and acid on the throat too much can damage you. Drops coat the chords and mine are already covered with gunk. I can't wait to have my surgery.Kiskaloo wrote:I find ice-cold Lemon-Lime soda (Sprite or Sierra Mist) seems to work to dull the pain and clean up the gunk coating my throat. Make salt water(1 tsp salt to every 2 cups of water); sip, gargle, and spit.
After about two to three gargle's pain should be gone leaving a slight tingle if anything at all..
It's gross, but it works. Make sure to rinse your mouth after the pain is gone immediately or...
...
...
...
that taste will stay with you for days.
If salt water is too gross for my little Rubi, you can pick up saline solution from any drug store or supermarket with a pharmacy; but it doesn't work as good.
Take care and hope you feel better.

I would agree with the salt water rinse, that's what I've done in the past. I'd also suggest popsicles (or ice cubes, if you don't want the sugar), but that's more for pain relief. I doubt the cold would be good for singing, lol.

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
I got a new Video in Youtube, it's meant to Rick Roll some twilight fangirls but my current problem is that the thumbnail features the Rick Roll video! all three thumbnails are from the Rick Roll video even though i already put a twilight video at the beginning of the video. anyone know what i should do?

so did i, just took the test of the lulz anyway, the distance and the money is no joke
I had to find this after I ask, don't I? :/
Anyway, Cambridge is really close to Hertfordshire (well, my town, at least), as is Oxford. So that's not a problem for me. Nor is money, as my parents have a stash of money saved up for uni for me and my sister
But yeah, Imperial College might be one to look into... Thanks.

Only, I'm thinking the chances of me getting into Oxford/Cambridge are rather low...

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
I finally saw the last episodes of Big O, but I still don't understand any bit of that show.
Can someone tell me what was the meaning of everything?
giant robots, god, um, tomatoes...
also, what's a girl-boy?

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
a girl-boy is the rather odd term used in certain fanfictions for boy cyborgs though why the girl part is there is anyones guess,it should be noted that not all fanfiction writers use the term

I'm still mostly confused, as well, but I loved it. The sequel was solid, as well.

I thought the music of Big O was nice. It was my favorite thing about the series.Kiskaloo wrote:hydra282 wrote:I finally saw the last episodes of Big O, but I still don't understand any bit of that show.

Re: The 'Ask a Question' Thread
Ya know ...Whats the point of revolvers anymore?
The only things i see going for them is a direct feeding system in a small package. IE you dont need to take out a mag and load then put it back in. And simplicity so it wont jam so easy.
and i cant think of any other reason revolvers are even useful for their origional intended purpose anymore.
give me some of your insight
