Seconding what Altifisti has said about Clara.

There's a surprisingly large amount of hate for Clara around, and I don't really understand it. Yes, she's another 'feisty' love-interest, who's brave, and slightly reckless but...

All of the companions in the new series of Dr Who are practically obliged to have stupidly fearless as part of their personality: What sane person would trust a stranger to the point of believing they're a time-traveller, willingly follow him into a confined space, travel with him... and then tell no-one? Not to mention that he's clearly insane, as he thinks he's a "time-lord" and hundreds of years old.

Anyone care to elucidate on the Clara-hatred?

To be fair, there was a massive buttload of Martha Hate as well after Rose was lost in a separate universe. I think it's multiple-series-Companion backlash. Amy and Rory were the Doctor's companions for, what, three seasons in a row? I expect they, like Martha and Jack and all the others, will make misc. appearances throughout the season that follows Clara.

That being said, anyone know where I can view the episodes online?

I think there's a fair bit in what El said: Clara's something new and is coming in after some very beloved companions (and, while I adore Clara, I still think I like the Ponds better... though they had more time as well of course)... it's similar to when Matt took over from David: we all wondered if he would be capable of carrying the role and there was plenty of "this is a terrible idea, he's too young, I'll never watch it again".

Was watching the tele in the hotel room here in London and BBC One was reminding everyone to tune in 24 hours from now for the live show to find out who will be the new (12th) Doctor.

WTF?

Evidently Matt Smith announced on 01 June that he was leaving the show with the 2013 Christmas Special (now there is a lump of coal for you).

For those in the US, it's being shown at the same time live on BBC America (so 2PM Eastern / 11AM Pacific).

what is it with syfy and Sharks ? Sharktopus, sharknado Ghost shark, Etc , honestly if you stay out of the ocean you should be fairly safe from sharks , couldn't they find a more realistic threat to use ?

Well with Ghost Shark, it can get you from any source of water. Even a cup of coffee.

The BBC have announced that they have recovered 9 missing episodes from the Second Doctor's era of Doctor Who. They have been able to fully recover "The Enemy of the World" and five of the six segments of "The Web of Fear".

There's just no words to describe what I just saw. The ups, the downs, the sadness and the regret. The sheer crushing inevitability that was, itself, crushed by Clara's apparently boundless optimism and faith in The Doctor to do the right thing, was a tremendously powerful device, and the endless hope wrung out of the ending was even more powerful.

Well, I guess I did a words. But holy God, that was beautiful.

In addition to the 50th Anniversary episode, BBC America showed the BBC docudrama An Adventure in Time and Space about the creation of Doctor Who and the tenure of the First Doctor.

I really enjoyed this. David Bradley did a great job of portraying William Hartnell and Jessica Raine was her usual excellent self portraying the producer Verity Lambert. Screenwriter Mark Gatis has written for both Doctor Who and Sherlock and his story was both entertaining and enlightening, covering the prejudice Lambert and Indian director Waris Hussein faced both due to their gender / race and the concept of the show itself - "science fiction for children".

I always feel a bit detached from that sort of docudrama because I'm wondering how much was elided, compressed and 'reassessed' to make a television script. However... god-damn if the shot where Bradley has a vision of Smith didn't yank the heartstrings...!
