figured I'd turn this into a general real life is keeping me busy thread.

I'll be spending the next few months traveling here and there, starting with a trip down US101. I know I've only been checking in sporadically, but it's about to get worse. Will post pics at some point.

Aw, that's ok LoC. Enjoy the trip. Take lots of pictures of everything you see. I've never really been outta the city except for when I went to Canada, Disney World, D.C. and South Carolina. Sad Take lots of pics of the plains and the other coast for me! Smile

That means In and Out Burgers. Wink

well, I made it to a cafe with free wireless in Cali, and I have a funny little story about the border... they apparently don't allow Oregon produce into the border. Seriously, there's an agricultural inspection at the state border now. I almost expected to have to show 'em my passport...

also,
Welcome to Norcal! We can't fucking drive here!

Also, we have more big trees than you. And somewhat more gorgeous coastline... with shiny rocks!

my response: "Yeah, but do you have DRIFTTREES (seriously, that big driftwood in the foreground was about 4 feet thick)?! Didn't think so."

Come on, LoC978. You live in the Pacific Northwest - Land of the Perpetual Morning SUV Rollover Accident on I-5. bang head

I'll spot NorCal Redwood National Forest, but I think Washington has a prettier Pacific Coastline.

feh. I-5 is a 4-6-lane freeway that's too stuffed with yuppies. This wreck was a on practically empty, straight, 2-lane highway. Looking at the scene, I was really having trouble seeing how the collision happened.

also, some of the more out-of-the-way highways down here have a pretty unique charm.

I think I may be overstaying my welcome at this deli. more to follow at my next stop.

even though I'm now well past such things (stopped in Santa Cruz)...
lol. only in Humboldt... well, maybe not, but it was still a little shocking, me being used to that trade being a prolific black market rather than 'legitimate' trade.

also, we've left 101 behind, since this was supposed to be a coastal trip..
the view where CA Hwy 1 meets the ocean is breathtaking.

oh yeah, funny thing about San Francisco... gas prices can fluctuate about 30 cents per gallon in two blocks (2.26 was the low, 2.63 the high. at home I pay 2.29 lately).

also... 'lectric car! (only see 'em rarely up north... this one was in a small town, even)

going wayyy back (pre-cali, even)...
JESUS CHRIST IT'S A T-REX! GET IN THE CAR!

...been to some really off-the-beaten-path spots, enough to see:
a frightened bovine (seriously like 3 feet from the car there), and turtle tracks

so anyway, saw a lot more of this, photographed one of these, and stayed at some campsites (...I didn't know that damn tent was in faux BDU camo until after I bought it, but so far it's proven to be pretty tough).

Also, Elephant Seals.
Action shot!

I my dad has a tent that looks just like that one. Ohmygosh seals. That's crazy. So I'm guessing you're eating well, then? Razz People feed the squirrels so they get brave - you should shoot them so they remember to return to nature.

so I made it back home... with food poisoning. Thankfully doihavepigflu.com wasn't lying, but I've learned that Jack-In-The-Box down in SoCal hasn't come as far from its E.coli days as it has in the northwest. Thankfully I was only about one day dehydrated when I made it to the VA hospital up here (couldn't even keep water down).

Post by LoC978 Wed 24 Jun 2009 - 3:08

so... been an eventful few weeks. I'm helping a whole bunch of people move (to and from my house, complicated story involving an inheritance), I was introduced to some women who have been keeping me a little *ahem* busy. I found out that a woman I've been hanging out with occasionally to watch movies and play video games with (in the company of other people, no less) was "in love" with me... and I guess I hurt her feelings by being a little weirded out by that...

...and I sorta had to cut a deal with the local Army Reserve folks. They were nice enough to let me in on the workings of their system, and I was going to be activated this month and shipped off to Texas... instead, I'm going to be spending a year playing weekend warrior in Washington.
...goodbye again, long hair...

oh yeah, and to top it all off, one of my best friends of the past decade is joining the Marines.
...and I wonder why I can't sleep...
