Story Thread

Soundtrack! (Courtesy Project J)

This is a sort of OOC and discussion thread for a small collaborative work I'm doing with just a handful of writers. It's going to be something done at our own pace with no specific goal. Just plots as they come along - what helps develop the characters and whatnot. It's basically an offshoot of the GSG:A story my original characters came from (I didn't start the RP, BTW.)

Original Story
Discussion Thread

Basically, the person who set up "GSG:A" had the equivalent of the SWA as the "Rehabilitation Branch, Disaster Relief Program." Section one is administration, in DC. Section 2 is intelligence. Has offices in FEMA's  DC building, and in region offices. Section 3 is medical, with facilities in Ft. Detrick, Maryland and Balboa Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA. Section 4 is the handlers and cyborgs, which can be deployed to any of the various offices; Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Denton (TX), Kansas City, Denver, Oakland (CA) and Seattle. Quoted from original post that held the RP story.

Section 1 formulates the orders to give to the other sections. However, Section 2 collecting information to pass on to administration means that Section 4 practically gets their orders from intelligence.

It's a small and mostly private endeavor for the moment, but it's easy enough to take on other writers and characters if anyone is interested. Any profiles and story-specific information is posted here.

Previously in the Rehab Branch...

South Africa came to a swift, if messy resolution. The arms trade in the area was stymied, while Jack Keaton provided legal evidence that would present a basis for actions against Eagle Claw for it's own involvement in the illicit trade. Progress against the cartel has been slow, mostly consisting of taking individuals in for interrogation when possible. Things take an abrupt turn as the Russian Sparrow Team captures, interrogates and nearly kills an RB plant, putting the staff on edge as they anticipate the next move. Heavy cooperation between the Cartel, Eagle Claw and the Russians lends to a grim outlook.
Current Goals

  • [In Progress] End Cartel Operations

  • [In Progress] Prevent Proliferation of Cyborg Tech

  • [In Progress] Assist British in an unstable North Ireland

  • [In Progress] Eliminate Info Leaks

  • [In Progress] Destroy Eagle Claw Foreign Assets

  • [Completed] Find legal evidence against Eagle Claw (Keaton Arc)

  • [In Progress] Counter Russian Cyborgs

  • [Completed] Interdict Arms Trade in South Africa

Plot

2011
Cartel - The current plot arc focuses on cartels in Mexico that are starting to enter the cyborg field through contacts within the RB itself and a number of US-based companies. They have held deals within parts of the US and abroad to acquire and perfect their own cyborg technology. They have even cooperated with Eagle Claw, a large US PMC to acquire arms and protection. Recently the involvement of a Russian source working alongside the cartel to fight RB assets has complicated matters...

Troubles - Ken, Lyn & Marcus are involved in helping the British handle uprisings in the Ireland territory in a large cooperative job between the CIA, RB, MI-5 and MI-6. Similarly to how GSG is derived from an escalated Padania movement in Italy, this plot arc focuses on a United Kingdom where the troubles were never truly resolved. Dublin is part of the UK, and feelings run high, fighting in the streets being common. The UK's military has stepped up to the challenge, as well as fighting in Afghanistan.

Spoiler:

Internal Security - Christine and Amita are tasked with investigation of matters within the RB itself.

Spoiler:

Keaton - Amsel asks Kris, Gene and Elise to go to an arms dealer for information about the cartel's relation to Eagle Claw.

Spoiler:

South Africa
- Amsel and Luce travel to South Africa, and with the help of plenty of friends set a plan to interrupt a crucial arms deal for the Cartel and Eagle Claw.

Spoiler:
Sparrow School - Klara passes crucial information to Mordechai and Lilya, reigniting their private war against the remnants of the Sparrow School cyborg program and their past.
Spoiler:

FSB - The adventures of Raskol and his killing spree, working tangentially at uncovering some of the mystery plaguing both the Americans and the Russians.

Spoiler:

Law Enforcement - The stories of Austin Ross, a cop working to uncover some of the unusual events in Los Angeles but ends up involved heavily with the RB.

Spoiler:

Proliferation of Cyborg Tech - The work of several criminal enterprises that have stolen and reverse-engineered cyborg technology to their own ends, working hand-in-hand with the cartel.

Serial Codes
Spoiler:

GSG:A Returning Characters

Marcus Moretti - Profile One of the many field operative heads for Section 4, normally based out of Chicago. He has historically passed orders down to Amsel, Luce, Ken, Rhia, and Anne in previous operations.

Christine Edgehart & Amita Edgehart - Profile Perhaps the oldest fratelo still in active service, the pair specializes in Internal Affairs  matters. Having been supplanted by more modern teams, they spend most days behind a desk or in a vehicle, brainstorming as a direct liaison between Section 2 and Section 4. With years of field experience and cyborg technical expertise, however, they can still go toe-to-toe with the best of the current-generation cyborgs.

John Amsel & Lucinda Izumi - Profile TL;DR: They kill people, from long range frequently. One of the older pairs still working with Section 4, Amsel and Luce have done quite a bit of intel in the past, but find themselves recently in more of a direct-action and sniping role. They were engaged in uncovering a weapons smuggling plot that resulted in fighting a Russian cyborg and handler. Their backstory has been retconned slightly since the original, however, so the origins implied in GSG:A may not be strictly true.

Kenjiro Hayashi & Lynette Sakai - A field agent who for the longest time did not have a cyborg, specializing in information warfare. Has worked alongside Amsel and Luce for some time, including their run-in with the Russians. He has been recently assigned a cyborg. Lyn's conditioning is not exactly standard, a fact he doesn't intend to make known.

Lilya Bildeshka & Mordechai Gorshkov - Profile An ex-Spetsnaz operative and an experimental Russian cyborg derived from the Italian SWA cyborgs. Lilya was subject to a variety of inhumane experiments by the Russians and eventually conducted amurderous rampage in the Sparrow School. She found Mordechai, who gracefully accepted his death unlike the rest, and the two worked together from that point on. They entered the US and had a short, brutal fight with Amsel & Luce, Rhia & Anne and Ken, retreating after Lilya sustained heavy wounds. Since then, they disappeared from the scene for quite a while.

Rehabilitation Branch Characters
Klara Yakovleva - Profile Also known by the moniker "Carlos", Klara is an SVR agent with a strong Spetsnasz pedigree and an infamous reputation as a mercenary/assassin in Latin America. A co-founder and instructor of the Sparrow School, she has an intimate understanding of cyborg tactics and methods, and exerts strong Russian influence over Latin and South America through her control of the drug cartel hierarchy.

Duke Hudson & June - Profile

Aurelio 'Leo' Zenigata & Sophie - Profile

Grigori "Raskol" Dimitriivich - Profile Raskol likes to cut things and drink vodka. He's crazy, but a good guy at heart. He works best alone, and it's probably best that way, else he'd accidentally his team. Don't piss him off, because his kill count is tremendously retarded and regarded as one of the greatest statistical anomalies within the FSB. Also, he sucks at English.

Elise - Profile - Known to most as "Katrina," this enigmatic woman materialized at Amsel's side between cases and has been a staple of local RB operations ever since. Her jaw-dropping physical traits, razor-sharp intellect and charm contributed to a long career in European intelligence services before she "retired." Elise never misses a trick, but she's so good at her job its often hard to recognize when she cares deeply about someone.

Eugenio "Gene" Langes & Kristina Fields - Profile An ex-Camorra cleaner and a street urchin turned cyborg, these two share an odd relationship. Due to Gene technically being a prisoner, his cyborg is conditioned without the intense loyalty to her handler that is typical. His technical expertise is utilized to uncover crime scenes that were tampered with and sniff out hidden activities conducted by the cartel.

Farin Rovak - Profile Known to many as just "Farin" or sometimes names like "the scary blond lady," Farin rarely ever smiles, having little reason to. She doesn't talk about her family or background and simply offers her services as a killer, running a private security firm in South Africa. She always cheats and always wins.

Alex Valverde, Mark & Lee - Profile One of the newest fratello for the Branch, and in strange ways, one of the more effective. Alex is an excellent fighter, but due to her conspicuous appearance, she was assigned two cyborgs and a metric ton of tech to guide Mark and Lee.

Tara Stahl & Andrea Walker (Inactive) - Profile

Austin Lewis Ross - Profile Austin is an LAPD undercover cop currently involved in uncovering a local Trinatarios gang.

Stefan Freeman & Tiffany - Profile

Daisy Richards - Profile

Ilyana Kasdreyev & Dimitri Korovich

Hm, since Nathan and Erina regularly return to CIA headquarters in Langley after each mission for a performance evaluation, it wouldn't surprise me if Erina has a semi-regular basis of interaction with some of the cyborgs from the Rehabilitation branch.

So explain - Rehabilitation Branch?

Are cyborgs going to be recycled or send back into the public after a memory wipe? Too many undefined and open things here...

The RB is basically a US based SWA. Same idea - take children horribly ruined by accidents and turn them into cyborgs to combat X crime, with the amnesia, conditioning and all that. The name is really just a cover-up.

Physical Description: What they look like, how they dress.
Background / Personality: What they're like, and how their background shaped them.
Operational History: Any significant information about the character's typical roles and previous work.

The Rehabilitation Branch [Discussion Thread] Empty Re: The Rehabilitation Branch [Discussion Thread]

Post by Project J Sun 1 Jul 2012 - 0:28

PARTAY TIME

just throwing this up for reference.

[Christine Edgehart]
Handler

Physical Description: Female, aged 37. Dull blonde hair, usually tied back in a bun. Blue eyes, Has a cybernetic right arm starting just above the elbow joint, cosmetically identical to a normal arm. Wears formal business attire (suit-and-tie, leather platforms). Hold-out handgun in right forearm, form-fitting stab-ballistic vest worn under the shirt.
Background / Personality: Christine's job requires her to be uncompromising and methodical. She personally despises what the cyborgs are used for, conflicting with her love for what seems to be for her a surrogate daughter. Hence, while appearing emotionless when she works, a rage of emotions conflict within her. Almost cold in her professionalism, she prefers to be called by her surname on the job, and is on a first-name basis relationship with very few people. "Guilty until proven innocent" is her approach to her duties in Internal Affairs, as treason in the modern day and age is a difficult weed to destroy, and it allows Christine to distance herself from people all the more easily.

Nonetheless, Christine's 5-year relationship with Amita is quite warm. Although neither will openly admit it, Christine and Amita share a near mother-daughter bond, compounded by the fact that Christine is medically unfit to bear children. Besides from having a very close working relationship, Christine and Amita partake in many leisure activities off-mission, including but not restricted to games of chess, kickboxing or general kenpo sparring, shopping, watching movies and even playing computer and console games. Having worked together for as long as they have, they are the straight-laced example of a fratelo that synergises, dotting every 'i' and crossing every 't' in function and form - as skilled in detective work as they are on the field.

Operational History:

The niece of an important figurehead in the FBI, Christine found herself working there for a few years as an Internal Affairs agent at the age of 25. A covered-up assassination attempt on a government official in 2006 resulted in Christine being hospitalised and refitted with a prosthetic arm. She was hired as a Section 2 operative by the Rehabilitation Branch after a very short 6 months of intensive rehabilitation (usually prosthetic work was exponentially more difficult for older patients), and soon after was reassigned to Section 4 in a fratelo. However, she also had a second directive: as a liason to Section 2 and Internal Affairs in Section 1. Her duties in Section 4 and 2 reach out through the Rehabilitation Branch, as well as the other three-letter government organisations when the situation arises. However, while she and her cyborg are a fighting force to be reckoned with, thankfully with most days her greatest enemy is the paperwork.

Equipment:
*FN Five-seveN USG w/LAM
*S&W M&P 9 Compact
*H&K G36C
*B&T MP9

Christine usually keeps an old hardwood 20-gauge Remington 870 (Police) with a 14" barrel at whatever reisdence she takes up, whether off-duty or on assignment. As her father and grandfather's favorite gun handed down to her over the years, it is one of the very few items she holds any particular sentimental vaue to, her personal home defence weapon.

[Amita Edgehart]
Cyborg

Physical Description: Female, 16. Photogenic. 5'9". Dyed blonde hair, tied back into a bun. Brown eyes. Wears suit-and-tie with concealed stab-ballistics vest like Christine, but has a soft spot for wearing any furs when off-mission, and dresses much more casually than Christine, almost tomboyish in her casual wear, very lean and lanky for someone her age. Enhanced adjustable eyesight and (literally) photographic memory.
Background / Personality: Amita is somewhat detached from the world around her, although at times it becomes just a facade for her to listen into conversations more easily. She has a milder disposition but like Christine, forms relationships with others purely based upon beneficial merit. She retains the memories of the incident in which she was orphaned, however vaguely, as it reminds her that somewhere out there were her parent's killers. It gives her a drive and focus to be better, faster, and stronger than them, the memory a burden which could crush a lesser child becoming a demon from which she draws her inner strength. Both cyborg and handler know there will come a time where she will have to face those demons, but Christine also knows Amita has the outcome already planned out in her head, and nothing short of a full memory wipe would persuade her otherwise, something she is unwilling to risk her cyborg's cerebral faculties for.

Operational History: Amita was the only child to a couple involved in law enforcement, an undercover sting gone bad when their true identities were found and their house practically razed to the ground by gunfire when she was 11. A sense of justice remained with Amita as she was partnered with Christina after 1 year of surprisingly light drug conditioning (with more emphasis on old-fashioned psychological therapy and therapeutic recovery to assist in the trauma of losing her parents), allowing Amita to retain more of her creative processes and enhance her deductive and detective logic.
Equipment:
*FN Five-seveN USG w/LAM
*S&W M&P 9 Compact
*H&K G36C
*B&T MP9
*Weighted throwing knives, sheathed by her ankles.

Vehicle Loadout

The vehicle most frequently used by the fratelo is a 2009 police-model, 5.7-litre V8 Dodge Charger, a (mostly) unassuming unmarked charcoal-black car complete with a set of aluminium push bumpers, skid plate and reinforced panels. A magnetic beacon and a spare M&P 9 Compact is stored in the glovebox. The plating itself is not (usually) government plating. A FN SCAR-H is stashed in a compartment hidden under the back seats, and a FNH SPR-USG (/w a fitted barrel several inches longer than the regular barrel) is located in a boot compartment. While Christine is not the most avid afficionado of cars, nor does she drive the Dodge on a regular basis (for many occasions she is often chauffeurred around), she frequently consults with the technicians who work on her vehicles, and makes sure to keep her driving skills sharp in order to be ready for the moment when she might need it.

Trivia

*Christine is not particularly well-versed in cooking, but has spent the vast majority of her life making her own breakfasts and knows hundreds of permutations with which to have the most important (and nutritious) meal of the day. Her favorite foods are poached eggs on toast (usually with a sprinkle of garlic salt and pepper), and a decent bowl of oatmeal and fruit cereal. Wheat biscuits and chocolate protein shakes tie for a close second.
*Amita loves junk food, especially microwave pizzas, fried bacon for her breakfast, and Chinese takeaway. She is a slob in that regard.
*Both are extremely averse to tobacco smoke, and neither drink alcohol. The closest thing to alcohol they have ever had is Bailey's rum 'n raisin ice cream (which Amita adores).
*Amita inexplicably picked up a fondness for throwing knives and is freakishly accurate with them. Christine prefers to keep her own in her hands, and trains in knife-fighting regularly along with her usual kickboxing and kenpo sessions. Occasionally when on vacation, Amita goes moose hunting (with Christine grudgingly in tow), with nothing but an arsenal of knives. Christine does not share such a death wish, and will keep the Remington on-hand if need be.

1.) Same, basically.

2.) Same, though the conditioning is slightly less stringent due to the lack of a war as big as the Padania.

3.) Well, it's technically part of the DHS. So plenty of assets - HUMINT, maratime interdiction, etc. Lots of assets.

4.) Well, it's an agency. People have jobs that they need to be good at. It's supposed to be pretty realistic.

5.) None off the top of my head.

The Rehabilitation Branch [Discussion Thread] Empty Re: The Rehabilitation Branch [Discussion Thread]

Post by MP5 Thu 19 Jul 2012 - 11:41

Duke Hudson
Handler

Physical Description: At 64 years old, Duke is 'Over The Hill', with a lot of gray hair and wrinkles from old age. Still keeps in shape through daily exercise, so retains a respectable amount of muscle mass. Caucasian, with a smattering of Irish heritage. occasionally suffers from brief periods of aches and pains, and therefore takes a series of vitamin supplements and pain relievers to combat their effects. Usually found dressed in a button-up shirt and slacks

Background / Personality: As a former Marine in Vietnam who saw combat during the 1968 Tet Offensive, Duke has a disillusioned world view and is something of a misanthrope and a racist, and especially hateful of people of Asian descent. Unless he has personally been under fire with someone, he tends to distrust and view most people as 'phonies'. After his military service, Duke settled down into civilian life, met a woman he eventually married, and raised a daughter, providing for her by working as a mechanic for most of his life. Eventually, his thoughts turned to retiring as he reached his late 50's and started relaxing his attitude when that his daughter had married and made him a grandparent to a brother and sister pair.

However, Duke's otherwise quiet life was shattered when during a family outing to a Chinese buffet, a sedan full of Triad gangsters wielding machine pistols stopped in front of the restaurant and sprayed bullets into the establishment, followed by a pair of the vehicle's occupants walking inside the restaurant to gun down the managers and cashiers before taking whatever money was in the registers. That Duke had managed to duck in time was of little consolation to him as the rest of his family had been killed in the initial fusillade of bullets. Around him, other customers and diners were also wounded or dying, and what had caught his eye was a little girl moaning in pain, bleeding from gunshot wounds, her mother and father slumped lifeless on their table. Setting aside his prejudice, Duke managed to carry the girl outside just as police and paramedics arrived on the scene. In the weeks to follow, Duke alternated between grieving for the loss of his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren and keeping vigil over Ji-Yoon, the little girl he managed to save at the restaurant, taking responsibility for her at the hospital she was brought to. However, despite the doctors' best efforts, Ji-Yoon remained comatose and on life support, which she would eventually be unplugged from if she did not recover soon. It was during one of these visits that someone from the United States Rehabilitation Branch approached Duke about Ji-Yoon's candidacy for an advanced therapy procedure that had so far been successful in awakening comatose patients who were 'special cases' like Ji-Yoon. Having already taken responsibility for the orphaned girl, Duke agreed to transfer her into the care of Rehabilitation Branch. Of course, once he learned of the program's true purpose, he was enraged, but ultimately relented to stay as the girl's guardian and handler, and her name was changed to 'June' at Duke's request.

Duke's relationship with his cyborg is rather rocky. As much as he cares for June and wanted to save her life, he retains a tendency to be abusive, both physically and verbally, particularly when she repeats mistakes and Duke's temper begins to flare. Additionally, Duke has never quite gotten over the loss of his wife and family, and binge drinks on some occasions, further compounding some of the abuse he heaps on June, who somehow bears it all with good grace. In more sober moments and on good days, however, Duke and June have yielded satisfactory performances, but there is still an overlying concern in regards to Duke's attitude towards June and his alcoholism. Working with other pairs ultimately requires patience and Duke's hard-earned trust that whoever he's working with is sincere and not merely putting on a facade.

Operational History: Sergeant, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, United States Marine Corps 1967-1972

Equipment:
Sidearm: Colt M1911A1
Primary: Springfield Armory M14 Rifle
Other/Qualified to use: KA-BAR knife. IIIA vest w/front & back ceramic plates. Kalashnikov-series rifles, AR-series rifles, M67 Fragmentation Grenade

June
Cyborg

Physical Description: 12 years old, 4' 2", shoulder-length black hair, brown eyes, light complexion. Typically conservatively dressed in a blouse and skirt, usually with either sneakers or Mary Janes for footwear.

Background / Personality: June was originally a born a South Korean national named Ji-Yoon Park whose family emigrated from Seoul to Los Angeles when she was four. Ji-Yoon excelled as a student, making her parents very proud, and many of her teachers had high hopes for her.

However, one fateful day put Ji-Yoon and her family in the wrong place at the wrong time, leaving her the sole survivor in her family in the aftermath of a gang-related drive-by shooting and robbery that took place during a weekend outing at a Chinese buffet restaurant. As she lay bleeding from bullet wounds sustained in the shooting, an elderly man had come to her aid and carried her out of the bullet-riddled restaurant as first responders arrived at the scene. She would be comatose for at least one to two months before the United States Rehabilitation Branch took her in and processed her through their cybernetic augmentation program. Her name was changed during this time, and eventually, June woke up in a hospital room with her handler Duke Hudson at her bedside, the elderly man placing a Ted Yost LW Commander .45-caliber pistol atop her bed next to her clothes and issuing orders to get dressed and meet him at the firing range.

From the beginning, June and Duke's relationship--a subject of much gossip amongst the handlers and staff at the RB--had been hit-or-miss, and when it 'missed', Duke had a tendency to take out his frustrations on June, consistently berating her if he wasn't beating her for even the slightest of mistakes. Alcohol occasionally plays a role in Duke's mistreatment of the cyborg, but through it all, June has withstood her handler's rages and used his unkind words and physical abuse as motivation to improve herself, noting that Duke is far more civil when she gets things right. Unbeknownst to her, June is essentially the reason Duke stays in the employ of the Rehabilitation Branch, as a caring man ultimately lies hidden behind Duke's misanthropy, bigotry, and alcoholism. For the time being however, June will continue to be subject to her handler's wrath when she does something to fall short of his expectations.

Equipment:
Sidearm: Ted Yost LW Commander (.45)
Primary: Vepr .308 13'' w/shortened buttstock and aperture sights.
Other/Qualified to use: Mini KA-BAR. IIIA vest w/front & back ceramic plates, M67 Fragmentation Grenade, Kalashnikov-series rifles, AR-series rifles

The Rehabilitation Branch [Discussion Thread] Empty Got the memo...

Post by mistersaxon Fri 20 Jul 2012 - 5:45

...but I'm not simply going to re-introduce Sax and Rei - that team got way too messed up in every sense and I quite like the cliffhanger it was left on. I'll have a think about a new team if that's ok?

Hard to do without spoilering the cliffhanger but I will bear them [her] in mind. Rei (and her Campfire Story meta-verse twin) were the closest I've come to running an OC, albeit in borrowed settings. I'm fond of her in all her incarnations.

The Rehabilitation Branch [Discussion Thread] Empty Re: The Rehabilitation Branch [Discussion Thread]

Aurelio 'Leo' Zenigata
Handler

Physical Description: A often-dapper 5' 9" young man of Japanese-American/Italian-American descent in his late twenties. Work clothes consist typically of a bespoke suit and shoes to match by one of the finer Italian design houses, though a significant amount of his wardrobe consists of items made by Miguel Caballero, a designer famous for making discreet and fashionable bulletproof clothing. Casual wear often consists of button-down long-sleeve and khakis or a polo shirt and jeans, both accompanied by shoes that go well with either outfit. Aurelio keeps in shape though a daily exercise regimen, with light calisthenics being the minimum requrement in the morning should he be unable to visit the gym when off-duty.

Background: Aurelio 'Leo' Zenigata was born into money as the son of a Japanese-American businessman with family ties to a Japanese construction and development company and a successful Italian-American doctor with several private practice hospitals and clinics located across the United States which catered to VIPs, diplomats, and celebrities for everything from juvenile care to emergency surgery. As a child, Aurelio was placed in prestigious private schools where he was expected to be a top student, an obligation he fulfilled only through hard work and many hours of studying, as he lacked the sort of intelligent talent amongst his classmates, some of whom looked down on him because of this. Eventually, Aurelio was transferred into a public school as he went through middle school and high school, finding a slightly more relaxed atmosphere, though he was not allowed to stop achieving top honors academically. His favorite extracurricular activity, however, was racing karts, with brief aspirations of getting as far as Formula 1, but the challenge of trying to be a top student and a professional race driver were at odds with each other, and so eventually decided to abstain from racing to concentrate on his studies.

Throughout his highschool career, Aurelio took the path of criminal justice, as his father and mother drilled the concept of 'Noblesse Oblige' into him at a young age, appropriately (if lazily) donating to multiple charities, funding scholarships for underprivileged students and opening manifold smaller free clinics in inner-city areas to attempt to provide an example to their son. Mr. and Mrs. Zenigata had assumed their son was studying to be a Lawyer or Prosecutor, and so were thoroughly surprised when he told them he was pursuing a career in Law Enforcement. When he attended California State University in Sacramento, Aurelio enrolled in the U.S. Marshals Service Centralized Student Career Experience Program (CSECP) with the goal of becoming a Deputy U.S. Marshal. Upon completion of the program and the requirements of his degree in Criminal Justice, Aurelio jumped into his new job feet-first, and before long would be deployed serving warrants with a boisterous, reckless team leader named Vincent Pucci. These raids often ensnared true scum, and Aurelio believed that working as a Marshal fulfilled the concept of noble obligation that his parents had consistently referred to as he grew up. Being a Marshal satisfied him, especially when their actions saved the lives of children in harm's way.

Aurelio's career as a Deputy U.S. Marshal took a serious turn during an operation to serve a warrant on Domingo Fuentes, a wanted member of Mexico's Juarez Cartel believed to be holding a hostage for ransom. As his team went to raid the warehouse where Fuentes was reportedly taking refuge, He escaped with his hostage, an 18-year-old daughter of a high-ranking Chevron executive amidst gunfire from his team, but Fuentes ultimately escaped with his hostage across the border to Mexico, where Aurelio's team could not follow. The young deputy took note of his team leader's frustration and rage, sensing that Vincent might do something drastic. Sure enough, his team leader snuck across the border that night, got into a shootout with Fuentes and his men, and got detained by the Mexican authorities, and ended up returning to the U.S. with the hostage, who was in terrible medical condition, prioritizing her treatment and welfare over extraditing Fuentes back to the U.S. to face trial. As a result of Vincent's vigilante actions, Aurelio's team leader was discharged from his position and Aurelio was given command of the team, a move that Aurelio believed was unfair to Vincent, and in the future, the young man would come to believe that was the day his team lost its good luck charm.

No less than six months later, Aurelio was leading his team on another warrant execution, this time against a known sex offender with outstanding weapons charges to boot. The raid went horribly awry, resulting in the deaths of his team due to a booby trapped door and a belt-fed machine gun that the suspect used to mow down those who survived the explosive trap. Aurelio only survived because a jam on the suspect's weapon gave him ample time to place a bullet directly between the suspect's eyes. Still worse was to come, however, as a search of the residence brought a gruesome discovery to Aurelio's eyes: the naked, multilated corpses of children that the suspect had abducted and sexually assaulted were all chained together in a secret room of the suspect's house, and all Aurelio could do was call in backup before going outside to vomit.

After burying his comrades and debriefing completely, Aurelio told his supervisors that he no longer had it in him to continue the job after seeing what he saw that day in addition to having the deaths of his fellow deputies still weighing heavily on his conscience. Aurelio resigned and did everything he could to get away from the memories of that horrible day. Though no one blamed him for what had happened to his team and attributed the tragic events to plain and simple bad luck, Aurelio bore a significant amount of survivor's guilt and would forever remember that botched raid as his greatest failure. On the advice of his parents, Aurelio spent some time traveling the world, getting re-acquainted with his love of cars in the process. When he returned of more sound mind, conscience relatively clean, he attempted to continue helping underprivileged youth by combining his love of cars with an educational opporunity, starting an after-school program that taught at-risk youths skills in performance driving and automotive repair and maintenance, on the stipulation that they brought their grades up in class and applied what they learned to his program. The program went on successfully for two years before Aurelio turned over the program to someone whom he considered more than capable of replacing him and still teaching the students that went through his program the lessons they were there to learn. The reason for his departure from the program was an offer of employment from the United States Rehabilitation Branch to work with orphaned children who would need help recovering from especially grevious injuries suffered in incidents that took their families away from them.

When Aurelio joined the Rehabilitation Branch, he was eased into the job, noting and marveling that the children who needed help were given their mobility back through cybernetic augmentation. As time went by, the true purpose of the Rehabilitation Branch was revealed to him in a way that would keep his loyalty more or less on the side of the people he worked for, though he was still somewhat disturbed at the whole operation. Eventually, he began working with the girls (he could never think of them as cyborgs) and their handlers (a rather distasteful term, he thought), on missions concerning national security. Aurelio was a patriot, but was still somewhat uneasy as to the very method of using the girls and the USRB as a means of defending the nation. Still, his performcance on these missions was generally positive, which would play a role in deciding his next turn in life.

One day, Aurelio was told that he himself was being assigned a cyborg of his own, which unnerved him and brought back unpleasant memories of the day his entire team was slain. However, his prior experiences were taken into consideration, and to put him at ease, Aurelio was also told he and his cyborg would be more responsible for surveillance and reconnaissance, serving as backup rather than primary elements during takedowns. Somewhat relieved, Aurelio then agreed to meet his cyborg before she was activated.

Once again, his eyes were not prepared for the sight before him. Resting on a hospital bed in peaceful slumber clothed only in a bedsheet and hospital gown was the most beautiful young woman he had laid eyes on. Bright, fiery red hair framed a face of alabaster complexion dotted with freckles, and the bedsheet did nothing to hide the lithe, slender figure that Aurelio surely thought was created by the gods. Aurelio decided to name her Sophie, and a week later, he greeted her with a smile before it faltered as he placed a pistol case containing a SIG-Sauer P226R 9mm handgun on her lap, followed by a shopping bag from H&M, a smile on his face again--albeit a smaller one--as he turned to leave, telling her to meet him in the parking lot once she was dressed.

Personality: For all his experience bringing some of America's worst criminals to justice, Aurelio, or 'Leo' as he's better known, is a kindhearted man, perhaps a little too soft for the nature of his job in the Rehabilitation Branch. As he has a soft spot for children, he is very polite, courteous, and generous to the cyborgs of the Rehabilitation Branch, and even nicer to June, especially since there is little else he can do to ease her suffering when she is disciplined by Duke. Somewhat prone to bestowing presents on a whim, Leo tends to draw a bit of criticism for flaunting his wealth, however inadvertently, initially giving the other handlers the impression that he was a naive rich kid with his head in the clouds, at least until the learned of the trying times that befell him before joining the RB. Even so, Leo tends to give off the image of a nice guy with too much money who likes kids and wants to help them, but is in the wrong darn place to do so.

In regards to Sophie, Leo tries to maintain a happy familial relationship with the girl, treating her like a younger sister, but given the fact that they're just about the same height and that Sophie is nearly always hanging on Leo's arm while out in public dressed in stylish clothes that Leo picked out for her, complimenting his own outfits, gives the impression that they are more a couple than anything else. As it stands, Sophie truly admires Leo, and says she loves him like a brother, but her words hide her true feelings towards her handler.

Sophie
Cyborg

Physical Description: 19 years old, 6'4" in height, very tall. Pale, Alabaster complexion with freckles, bright green eyes, red, almost crimson messy bob-cut hair, hinting at Irish heritage with very good genetics. Slender athletic figure with noticeable bust, worthy of a model and often mistaken for/assumed to be one. Wears clothing typical of the kind bestowed to her by Leo, consisting largely of items from high-street shops and labels such as H&M, Aeropostale, American Eagle, Prada, Gucci, American Apparel, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Liz Claiborne, Christian Louboutin, and so on. Dresses to complement Leo's typically dapper appearance, usually by wearing some form of dress or shirt/skirt combo, with shoes to match.

Background: Sophie was originally born Margaret O'Neill in a suburban neighborhood on the outskirts of Boston. Margaret was a tomboy as a child, and often played sports with the best of her male peers as well as hold her own in the occasional schoolyard scrap. Such behavior continued until middle school and high school, where she made a bit more of an effort to increase her femininity but nevertheless remained a star athlete, garnering top honors in swimming and lacrosse while managing to maintain excellent grades and a 3.8 GPA, graduating in the top quartile of her senior class. Acceptance to Harvard as well as numerous scholarships paved the way for a secured college career.

Unfortunately, Margaret would never be able to make use of the scholarship. During the summer between her graduation from high school and her entrance into Harvard, she had embarked on a road trip with three of her best friends to go across the country all the way to the west coast. Their vehicle, packed to full occupancy, never even made it as far as the state border when an SUV veered from the opposing lane into theirs, resulting in a horrifying head-on collision. Margaret was the only one to survive the accident, caused by a distracted driver who was texting on a cellphone while operating the much larger SUV. However, Margaret was placed in a coma as the result of the incident with multiple failing organs and no readily compatible donors. Her doctors sought assistance from the Rehabilitation Branch, who agreed to take on her case--and then staged a convenient ambulance crash that would have reasonably killed her while in transit. As a result, her grief-stricken parents held a closed-casket funeral with a weighted coffin whilst the RB set to work on bringing Margaret back to the land of the living with the latest in cybernetic technology. She would wake up several months after her horrible accident with no real memories of her past and a new name in Balboa Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA, thousands of miles from her home. She would be greeted by the smiling face of Aurelio Zenigata, a man whom she came to trust and admire as soon as she met him.

Personality: In contrast to her previous life, Sophie as a cyborg is more of a girly-girl this time around, though she isn't afraid to roughouse when the going gets tough. Friendly and outgoing, Sophie tends to get along well with the other cyborgs, though like Aurelio, tends to accidentally flaunt what she has in front of her peers, which makes her come off as spoiled or overly-pampered. That said, her world revolves around Aurelio, and she aims to please him any way she can. While she tries to maintain a familial and professional relationship with her handler, there are signs that she has more romantic feelings towards him, which may explain her enjoyment of stakeout and surveillance missions where they must act like a couple for their cover, though Aurelio tries to play more of an 'adopted sibling' angle for most covers.

Trivia:

* Leo has an extensive collection of vehicles from around the world, many of them Supercars and sports cars from various marques and of various ages. These cars are often stored in air-conditioned garages in several locations around the world, including Italy, Germany, Britain, France, Monaco, Japan, Australia, and of course, the United States. His favorite vehicle to drive is a 1973 Alpine A110 1600S, equipped with period-specific Cibie rally-style auxiliary foglamps whilst Sophie's favorite is a 1975 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale that she has learned to maintain through Leo's guidance.

* While Leo comes from money, his own personal wealth was made by first trading stocks during the dot-com bubble with the help of his father, and later, investing heavily in Apple and Google as the two companies began their meteoric rise to power. His personal net worth is estimated to be somewhere in the tens of millions. He has also opened a trust fund in Sophie's name to ensure her financial future remains relatively secure.

* Unbeknownst to Leo, his former team leader, Vincent Pucci, works for the Rehabilitation Branch's Italian counterpart, the Social Welfare Agency.

Well in that case...

Certainly action packed mate. Not certain what I make of Lynette yet, though I'll admit I'm finding her attitude a bit easier to swallow as she's not operating within the established GSG canon/for a different organisation. I'll be interested to find out if her attitude is an intentional divergence from the norm, or if this Ken chap was just covering for her.

I might do everything in third person but first person saves a lot of "he said, she said" and makes knowing the person's thoughts a lot more natural IMO. But it's not that easy to write either so, yeah. I'll take a view on it, see what the characters want to do - when they show up. Hmm, actually a handler has been kicking around in my head for a few weeks now, but he didn't know it (sudden career changes are part and parcel of living in my head). Now I need a cyborg to arrive . . .

Uh... I think you totally botched the character profile... Just copy-paste the code box into a reply, instead of quoting it. You're missing the name and if they're a cyborg or handler, as well as the physical description. The spacing and capitalization is all over the place, as well.

Alright, but you still have to work on punctuation, spacing, capitalization and fluency. Additionally, you do realize the background is about the SWA, not the RB?

Ok John, I'll bite for now and play some villian to your heroes.

Name: Lilya Bildeshka, codename"Pushka"
Age:17
Nationality: Russian
Gender: Female
Key skills: Deception; could lie the pants off a Vegas card dealer.

Hand
to hand combat: Taught by Spetnaz operatives, she uses her speed and
agility to a deadly degree, and is graceful enough to wield a Meteor
Hammer like a Wushu master.

Interrogation; Few people are able to stand firm against her methods, fewer still can stomach them.

Parkour: very few can outrun this russkie.

Weapons: Various.

Meteor
Hammer: a dense teardrop of iron the size of a golf ball, heavy enough
to shatter bone, attached to ten meter's of fine chain and anchored with
a trench knife.

Background: Not much is known about
Lilya's life prior to being brought in to be a part of the "Sparrow
School", a Russian attempt at the Italian "Fratello" system run by the
FSB. Her mind wiped and her body cybernetically enhanced, she, along
with twelve others, became the tip of the spear in the Russian
operations aimed at quelling internal dissent. Harsh, brutal and
manipulative measures were used to keep them in check. While an
impressive body count was accrued by the Sparrow School, Russian
scientists sought to further improve upon the system. Of main concern to
them was the life expectancy of the cyborgs. Why waste so much on
someone who would never live past twenty, the higher-ups asked, and so a
more permanent form of chemical imprinting was experimented with. Lilya
was the first cyborg to under go the treatment. Initially thought a
success, a series of violent outbursts during missions revealed that,
while prolonging her life, the chem treatment had caused a state of
severe paranoia, rage and single-mindedness in the girl. The higher-ups
closed that part of the project and marked Lilya for termination.

She struck first.

In
a single bloody night, she slit the throats of all the other girls as
they slept, then stalked from room to room, slaughtering all she found. A
full third of the Sparrow School were killed that night, and over the
next few years she hunted most of the rest, forever attempting to
assuage the demon that drove her. In recent months, an anonymous source
has sent word to her that the man responsible for her longevity, as well
as several others to do with the project, have resurfaced in the USA.
She will not rest until they have paid their pound of flesh, and the
wise would do well to keep out of her way.

Name: Mordechai Gorshkov.
Age: 45.
Nationality: Russian
Gender: Male.
Key skills: Marksmanship; was the Designated Marksman in his squad during his years with Spetnaz.

Urban
Warfare tactics; Brutal fighting in Chechnya taught Mordechai all he
needed to know, and subsequent years made him well versed in the more
covert side of things.

Surveillance: While with the Sparrow
School, Mordechai was a leader of one of the surveillance teams that
always accompanied a Fratello and gave them up to date information on
their targets. He is a skilled hunter of the underworld, and will see
you well before you see him.

Weapons: Various.

Background:
Interestingly, Mordechai was not Lilya's original handler. He was never
meant to be. His job was to provide muscle in larger operations and
surveillance to the Russian fratello's. However, he was possibly the
only one to show her any kindness before her mental degradation, a fact
she remembered in her homicidal rampage through the Sparrow School. She
found him last, waiting for the fate he had expected to come of the use
of children like this. He handed her his pistol and sat on his bed,
making his peace. Instead, she adopted him as her Dyedooshka, her
grandfather, the one true kindness in her life and her only constant
through the madness. He manages to keep in her in a state of relative
lucidity and calm through his love, his devotion, and his willingness to
follow her to make sure of her safety. Also, at her urging, he doses
her with morphine, a measure he thoroughly hates himself for having
agreed to. She is his little 'Pushka', and it sickens him to do it.
However, one should not think he is just a great big Russian teddy bear.
There are reasons he was recommended to the Sparrow School from
Spetznaz.

"See the target? Gray van. On my go, shoot out the tires." Andrea spoke, laying prone next to Tara, who was manning an M107 .50 caliber rifle........

"Taking the shot." She placed her finger on the trigger, breathed deep, and squeezed the trigger. Approximately 1 second later, the man collapsed to the pavement. "I missed his head."

"What did you hit?"

"Neck."

hitting the neck with a .50 cal will probably decapitate the target depending on the range

From an M107/M82?
I see an autopsy pics (if you can call it that) of an Al Quida Mofo getting hit by one of those - the bullet went through a pile of sandbags and 2 cinder block walls, and hit him on the back of the ear. Nothing from the temple on back exists anymore, just a nearly perfect face still attached to the neck by the skin as if it was neatly band sawed off...

yea that sound pretty accurate, I have been told that the vaccume created by the round as it flies through the air is enough to lake a persons arm off even if the round misses the body by a couble of inches

I doubt that it possible. The bullet is already traveling at over Mach 1 speeds. Its more likely the shock wave traveling at that speed is what tears the arm off, and not the vacuum behind the bullet. But it would do more damage than just tear the arm off. It would be like holding an M80 firecracker blow up in your hand, you will loose a lot more than just your hand.

Would there be any concussive force from the passing shock wave? I know that C4 and stuff are deadly because of the shock wave, but I dunno if bullets ever reach velocities high enough to cause that sort of damage.

It's not so much that high explosives create as shockwave, as supersonic waves are the mechanism by which they work. Blasting cap detonates, sets off a booster charge, which lights into the primary explosive. The explosive rapidly releases expanding gas - the velocity of this gas is part of why a high explosive is called such. Higher quality blasting caps make for better detonation velocities and more powerful explosions.
