Obama Fried Chicken anyone?! (As usual with Sankaku Complex, I must warn about the presence of NSFW links).
Apparently this is an actual restaurant in Beijing. According the article, Kentucky Fried Chicken has apparently sued for copyright infringement. Barack Obama has so far been unavailable for comment.

Good luck suing a company in a country where copyright law does not exist. And as for Obama, I beg to differ... he made his endorsement perfectly clear.

One of the most striking aspects of End of Evangelion was the song "Komm, Susser Tod" - a peppy song about suicide, skipping along brightly with the unbearable burden of being. It's inspired another AMV from me which I hope evokes a similar mood - hiding the creases of
misery by stretching them out into a mask of a smile through the liveliness of killing.

Also, speaking of Madoka: the HomuCopter:
Or, Sankaku claims that is Homura, don't known whats with the "19th anniversery" though.
- Spoiler:
- As far as the canon of the two series is concerned, I'm not sure it would work out this way. In StrikerS, Fate said that magic in the Nanoha series is weak against "mass based weapons" such a bullets and missiles, which Homura happens to have plenty of.

Re: Random Media
I guess the people who made this poster know who's the favorite.
Lets face it... For those of us who are old enough to have appreciated the ORIGINAL original trilogy (not those ruined POS thingys he scraped more money from people with) before the recent teens got involved, Phantom Menace was probably the worst over-hyped film ever. It sucked (search online and take your pick of the reasons why).
There was nothing in the world that could get me to go see it the first time in theaters, and there is not enough valuables in the universe to get me to shell out the extra (see: extortion) cash to go see it in theaters again, just for supposed 3D.
Really... try remembering all of the things that bothered you in retrospect about the film... the things that haunt you when you're picking a movie to watch at home. "Do you want to watch Return of the Jedi tonight?" "IDK, maybe Phantom Mena.... er... um... meh... Jedi it is."
Now George Lucas is scraping for cash again and avoiding the convention circuit..... time to extort some more cash. Re-release the junk films, since we haven't done that yet, and have those toys in stores by Christmas.
I swear, the only worse fandom right now is Star Trek, which has been raped until she's old, loose, and gray, by Rick Berman.

Eh, I didn't mind the prequels so much. I was happy that I finally got to see stuff like the battle that exterminated the Jedi, Anakin's dealings with Palpatine, cool new characters like Mace Windu and Darth Maul, and Anakin's battle with Obi-Wan that cost him his body. That last item was almost worth having to sit through Jar-Jar Binks.
The only other thing that really bothered me was finding out that my man Darth Vader used to be an emo kid.
Bring on sequels, goddammit.

Re: Random Media
I've only seen The Phantom Menace once - in the theater - and that was one too many times. Attack of the Clones is somewhat palatable, especially the big battle at the end.
George Lucas suffers from the same form of ADD that Michael Bay does and it manifested itself first in Return of the Jedi with the massive space battle over Endor. The state of technology at the time did not allow Lucas to pack Star Wars and Empire full of stuff, but unfortunately CG allowed him to go back and take care of that and now Star Wars is full of CG robots and aliens cluttering the screen.
Someone must have straight-jacketed him with Empire, because that movie was mostly enhanced by the changes, though he even cocked that one up by replacing one of the best lines in the trilogy - "Bring my shuttle!" - with the ridiculous "inform my Star Destroyer that I will be arriving". And then he has the whole f'in crew stand at attention as Vader exists his shuttle just to show "look! I can do this in CG now!".
Yes, I own the new Blu-ray set, but I also own a special DVD-R recording of the original CAV LaserDiscs with the original films and that is the set I pull off the shelf when I want to watch Episodes IV through VI.

I'm more a fan of the extended universe.
From the Force Wars of 25,793 BBY(Before the Battle of Yavin) to the Great Hyperspace War to the Sith War; the Yuuzhan Vong crisis and beyond.
BTW; I know Triela likes her Darth Maul, but so long there's Exar Kun; Maul will only be a second-stringer.
Not everyday that a Sith Lord is so badass that the Jedi Order insists on keeping his lightsaber under lock and key with a Force-nullifying resin to boot.

Two things made the prequels just about paletable for me: first was that even I'll admit the battles were epic, and the second is Natalie Portman.
Otherwise I just pretend they never happend.
As to the "remastered" original trilogy, all I can say is: Han Shot First.

Edward James Olmos did such a brilliant job as Adama that he's my automatic nomination to play Chief Lorenzo should GsG ever be made into a live action movie.
Disclaimer; I still think that would be a bad idea.
All debate about Star Wars is academic, but not as academic as it will get in the future. I firmly believe that 100, 200, 400 years from now people will still be watching & debating George Lucas' story like we debate Shakepeare now. There are a lot or parallels; both are very populist entertainment...not considered particularly high-brow but innovative in the way they tell their stories. There's every evidence too that Shakespeare changed and tweaked his plays while they were running at the Globe Theatre...much like Lucas infuriates his fans by doing today.Triela wrote:I love the prequels and sequels. Personally, my issue with it has always been that Lucas, for whatever reason, decided to change it to Greedo firing first. Why? Solo at that time was far from being a "good guy". He didn't need to justify anything, which is illustrated so well in the way that no one in the bar blinked an eye. It's just that kind of place.
I prefer that Han fire first. It's his character, and changing it made his character weaker in the fact that this rogue who played by his own rules became, over time, a respected leader and a hero to many. By justifying his shooting Greedo by being fired upon, you lessen the impact of Solo's character arc, shortening it considerably by turning him from a "sorta bad guy" into a "bad guy when justified". Therein lies all the difference.
For a GSG parallel, imagine if Jean were changed, in reprints of earlier tankoban, to being more like Marco. No longer really mistreating Rico as we've seen, but being more indifferent to her. By the time we get to Turin, it's not really a shock for his emotions to finally come out, but something expected because he started out "less mean".

Re: Random Media
Not quite sure where to post this but here works. This is a bit long but it will conect back to anime I promise. We just covered student team achievement division which is a cooperative learning theory I just covered in grad school.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Student_Team_Achievement_Division
In this theory students work in groups to learn the material after the teacher is presented and then they earn points based on their performance on quizes and tests. This kinda reminded me of some of the plot elements from the Anime Baka and Test. While I have not seen the show the whole idea of summoned monster strengths based on their test scores to win perks remined me of the above theory. It's probably just coincidence but if not its brilliant.

Re: Random Media
Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has abandoned an injunction to prevent allegations about his private life being published, he said.
The gagging order prevented the publication of personal details, including a claim that he had an affair with his first wife, Alexandra Hall, while married to his current wife Frances.
Explaining why he took out the injunction at the High Court in last autumn, the BBC star told the Daily Mail: "One, most importantly, injunctions don't work. You take out an injunction against somebody or some organisation and immediately news of that injunction and the people involved and the story behind the injunction is in a legal-free world on Twitter and the internet. It's pointless."
He continued: "Secondly, you used to be able to take out an injunction and then just sit on it. But as a result of a recent court case you are now ultimately forced by the courts to go to trial - which is unbelievably expensive.
"If you win, news leaks out on the internet. If you lose, you then get raped by your opponent's legal fees. I regretted doing it from the day I took the injunction out to this morning. There is also an assumption of guilt which goes hand in hand with an injunction.
"Thirdly, my mother was desperately ill at the time last year. But she had a scan last week and it's now entirely fixed."
It is claimed that the injunction banned the media from reporting "sexual or other intimate acts or dealings" between Clarkson and his first wife as well as the Top Gear presenter's "private thoughts and feelings, his health and other financial affairs".
Max Clifford, who is representing Ms Hall, said: "She is delighted that the injunction has been withdrawn. She wants the whole truth to come out and she feels that a large black cloud that has been hanging over her for the last year has been lifted."
Asked about the allegations, Clarkson told the Daily Express: "I have to be very careful about what I say about her claims. I'm not denying them because denying them has legal implications now. She now has the right to say what she wants. And you can choose whether or not to believe her."
Clarkson is said to be spending the rest of the week 300 metres under the ocean on a nuclear submarine. He told The Sun: "My wife and I decided to let it go. My ex-wife is now free to tell her story and people can either believe it or not, it's up to them. I will be on a nuclear submarine."

It ticks me off to no end to know that some of those weapons used by the cartels are in their hands because of BATFE, and the Obama/Holder run justice department. But knowing also that the Mexicans need to get a grip on their own corruption throughout their country's municipalities, as well as at their federal level, tells me that their problem is more internal than we (the U.S.) could ever hope to affect.

Kina Grannis is just 26 years old, but the Japanese American singer songwriter has already won such accolades as the Doritos "Crash the Super Bowl" talent contest, getting her a record contract with none other than Interscope Records.
Her latest single is called "In Your Arms", which reminds us of Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" -- a funny coincidence, because the video for "In Your Arms" is made out of jelly beans, which in turn reminds us of the award-winning classic music video for Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer". It's a funny ol' world. eh?
Taking 30 people 22 months to complete, the video used a grand total of 288,000 jelly beans to make all the magic happen. So that's impressive. Whether you like the actual song itself, well that's one for you to decide yourself -- which you can do by clicking play on the video below. So go on,
