You won't be disappointed, Boomer. Public Enemies is an amazing film - Michael Mann's best since Heat.

Loved it as I love all of the HP films. It didn't seem rushed like The Order of the Phoenix did, but it actually wasn't as dark of a film. It's actually rather full of levity and the acting is great.
And Bonnie Wright's Ginny Weasley...
Loved it too,the book was lighter so it makes sense that the movie was lighter.
The really amazing thing is that it barely followed the book but all the original scenes were good.

Re: Films Everything
I saw HP6, too, and I loved it - there were things I would've done differently, but most of the new stuff they added in was good stuff.
Snape being the Half-Blood Prince wasn't played up enough. It's the
title of the movie, for heaven's sake. It was just sort of...tacked on
as an afterthought. I also think there was a little too much stalker!Lavender. It was funny, but once the audience understood she's a psycho there wasn't need to keep playing it up.
Regardless, it was a good movie, and...the trailers! I'm so excited for 9 and The Princess and the Frog it's not even funny.

I was in the HP-Preview yesterday and... what can i say... It was cool ^_______^ ! I liked it a lot more than the 5th movie but I hated that they took out so many scences which were in the book (I wonder how thy´re going to do the 7th movie.... ) and that it was so much about relationships and I imagined Slughorn a lot different and didn´t get the beginning but there were many Snape-scenes in it so I was happy ^0^

Re: Films Everything
The Deathly Hollows will be filmed as two separate movies released a year apart just so they can get in as much of the book as possible.
I can't quite decide if I like The Half Blood Prince more than The Order of Phoenix. I will admit that The Order of the Phoenix deeply disappointed me because of all the stuff they cut out of the book that I wanted to see. And it didn't help it was the shortest of the films in terms of run-time (if even only three minutes less than my favorite film - The Prisoner of Azkaban). So many of my favorite characters (Mad-Eye Moody, Lupin, Tonks) were in the book and none of them were in the movie for more than a few seconds. And while it had plenty of Luna Lovegood goodness (Evanna Lynch = ), we didn't see her roaring lion hat and "Weasley is Our King". Chamber of Secrets and Goblet of Fire were both ~20 minutes longer, after all, so there was precedent to let Order of the Phoenix run close to three hours to get the story in.
Half-Blood Prince did address some of this, since we do get to see Luna's lion hat and a bit more Lupin and Tonks. Still, overall the movie was much lighter than the middle three and I really like the dark movies more. So I think this will come in #4 on my list behind Azkaban, Goblet and OoTF.

Ghost Stories: The Best Anime Dubbing Job Ever!
I have to give a shout-out to rusty-spring for recommending the ADV dub of the anime Ghost Stories.
The show is a decade old and about as interesting as watching paint dry in Japanese (or with English subtitles). ADV evidently knew this, and therefore commissioned Steven Foster to write the greatest dub in the history of American anime production. It follows the general gist of the story, but in a comedic way that is absolutely hilarious. I was laughing my ass off at what Fabulous Subs did to Element Hunters, but this is on an entirely different level.
I don't know how many, if any, of you are familiar with a group called "Pinesalad Productions" (named after episode 18 of the original Macross TV series), but when I listen to this dub, I am reminded of Pam Buck, Missy Wilson and all the rest of them and the silliness they did ("The Dirty Pair Duz Dishes", "The Revenge of B.D." and other classics).
I so recommend the rental. Show it to friends. Throw a party. It will be a blast. I'm ripping them all now to show at Comic Con next week.

I just finished the rest of the show (speedninja3 posted all the dubs to YouTube) and it killed me it was so frelling funny. The later episodes get progressively more hilarious as they just drift farther and farther into silliness.
Episode 18 was my favorite, so give this a shot. If you like it, you'll love the series, but I need to warn you it is Not Safe for Work due to language.

Re: Films Everything
Two recommendations this week, based on my latest DVD rentals:
Body of Lies - Ridley Scott is one of my favorite directors and he did a great job with this film, as did the cast. A modern day spy thriller that reminded me of the classics like Hitchcock's Topaz. If you like espionage films, I think you will like this.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Loosely based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, this was a long film that I found grew better as it rolled along.

Yeah, saw the trailers for Ironman and Halo. Halo looks sort of like the Animatrix: a lot of shorts done by differnt companies set in the same universe. Not sure about Ironman, as much as I love anime and Marvel (or at least bits thereof) I'm a little dubious of crossing the two. Either way I'm interested, shall defer judgement till I've seen it.

I thought we had a thread on this show, but it might have been lost in the latest forum pruning.
I watched the first DVD volume of Kino's Journey (Episodes #1-5) and I have to say I really, really, really like this show. The stories are worthy of classic Twilight Zone and could have been written by Asimov, Bradbury, Heinlein or Ellison.
Volumes 2 and 3 will be here Monday, Netflix willing, and this show is on my "definite buy" list.
If you haven't seen it, and are a fan of "serious" science fiction, you might want to take a look.

As some people know, I love zombie films - even some of the incredibly bad ones. I'm a b-movie horror fan as well. Is it a curse? Probably.
Anyways back to my point, I just re-watched House of the Dead 2 which is just horrible. Absolutely horrible (Any move that starts with a sorority house water gun fight, and you know it's gonna be low-brow ). Personally I love it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anybody unless they also love cheesy, corny, poorly acted B-horrors. It's almost grindhouse in quality. Too much nudity and foul language than a movie should have. It's not indie-film crappy though, and was released by Lionsgate Films with a 6 million dollar budget - still squarely B-movie territory though.
One line in particular had me laugh for who knows how long.
Part of me wants to recommend it, but most of me wants to save you all from viewing it. Anyways, story over. Please move on.

Just the absolutely ridiculous way he said it, mixed with the horrible acting, had me laugh for about 5 minutes. Plus he was creeping into a college library with absolutely no books on the shelves.Token overweight, stupid, white-boy "soldier" - "I call my rifle Sophie, for Soph-esteem and my side arm Tough Love!"

Ok, a small disclaimer before I continue, to try to discourage flames from "old schoolers." I have had no prior exposure to the GI Joe franchise before I saw the new live action film.
With that out of the way, I have to say I found it my favorite popcorn flick in a long time. The women were gorgeous (Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols ), the CGI in most parts was extremely pleasing to watch, and the plot was coherent for a CGI summer blockbuster. I found it more enjoyable than Transformers 2. We'll see if District 9 can topple it when I go next week for that.
In short, I loved it, as did everyone else I went with - we all had big grins when we left.
PS - Is it me or did they have almost the entire cast from "The Mummy" series of movies? Even Brenden Fraser had a cameo.

I'm an old-school G.I. Joe fan, and I'm with rusty in liking the film. The fact that they got original series creator Larry Hama on board as a consultant was a definite plus - something the Transformers live-action movies failed to do with Bob Budiansky and Simon Furman.

I'm still sold on this idea for the next Bayformers movie:
Skippy wrote:Praeter Opportunus Lumen-
...I think that what Michael Bay should do for the next installment is hire Dan Brown to write it. When you hear my reasons you will probably agree that he is a natural fit.
You see, the alien robots from the transformers have been on the Earth longer than the human race has, which was either millions of years ago, or 6,000 depending on where you went to school. This is why some of them transform into dinosaurs.
Well given the Catholic Church’s age, and historical power in Western civilization it makes sense to me that at some point the church became aware of these giant robots. In fact, they probably have one or more secret orders of monks dedicated to their study.
Which is where Dan brown comes in. Because if there’s one thing that man can do, it’s write a compelling story about the secrets of the Church. And giant robots have the added benefit of being only slightly more ridiculous than any of his other stories. Besides, using anti-matter to blow up the Vatican has got Megatron written all over it.
...as for stuff I've seen recently... Role Models. Thought it was hilarious... but then, I'm a sucker for anything loaded down with a bunch of sexual innuendo at totally inappropriate moments.

watched GIJOE, not that bad, still okay for a pass-time
and i don't remember whether i watched the cartoons or not, so i don't really have any favors toward it
but one thing that made me lol was
the rockman suit, in the movie known as accelerator
just give it a rock buster and they all set

The accelerator suits were from the GI Joe: Sigma Six comics, actually. But yeah... I can see how they do somewhat resemble Rockman suits...

Also, @ LoC: the Secrets of the Church thing is awesome. No need for Dan Brown to come in, to be honest - Furman's always been one for pseudo-religion and lore in TF stories, so I think he'd be able to pull it off nicely.

I watched it a few days ago. One prerequisite to fully enjoy the show is that you need to leave your brain at home. Lots of pew-pew, boom and hawt girls (Yes I think the Baroness was Full of Win)
Something stupid I noticed. I thought in the later half their commander was in a wheelchair, but when he was overseeing the naval battle suddenly he was on his feet and his wheelchair was gone. That the whole cinema noticed and went

just went back and watched that Ghost Stories dub you posted, and...
:lol!:
...I think the best thing about it for me is that it has essentially the same cast as the ADV dub of Full Metal Panic!
hearing Souske's VA talkin' about a teacher getting her brains fucked out it priceless.

Just finished The International with Clive Owen and Naomi Watts.
Worthy of being a GSG story.
Most recommended.

I saw The International not that long ago, was actually better than I anticipated. The last part reminded me of a scene straight out of Il Teatrino.
I also saw Duplicity today, yet another Clive Owen movie. I got flashes of the Oceans XX movies as well as Michael Clayton. I loved the misdirection and the clever ending.

Re: Films Everything
Just watched "The Defender" with Dolph Lundgren and Jerry Springer (yes, I said Jerry). If you're a sadist for B-movies, this one's on your hit-list, if you can find a copy.
My friend picked a copy up for a buck and we figure it's actually worth about $0.75, as the action is weak, the plot forced, the characters stereo-typical, and the twists more likely to break your neck than thrill you. We were so excited that we started looking at the time-remaining clock about half-way through. Locations were limited, consisting mainly of a large hotel-like place, and at one point, a place that was identical to a high-school hallway.
I'll be honest:It's a Dolph Lundgren film, literally since he directed it. About the only way we were able to survive was with jokes about Dolph's uncanny resemblance to Dennis Leary, and not just at the odd moment. His hair, I think, was the cause, though his facial expressions were a perfect match. Given that Leary is slowly morphing into Willem DaFoe, we are fairly certain that Lundgren, Leary, and Dafoe are in fact the same person.
I will continue to sacrifice my own safety and sanity in the selfless effort to protect the world from bad movies, and will keep you posted on my progress. I have a killer list lined up.

I took a class at uni for fun It's basically studying history through film. So we'll study something about history, say, the changing American perception of the Wild West. Then we'll have a movie marathon of Shane, The Magnificent Seven, Unforgiven and Brokeback Mountain
Good movies, all of them. If you're in the mood for a good Western, these are the ones to go for

Re: Films Everything
I thought all indie films were emo dramas (which actually "Breakdance Fountain" might be categorized).
I'll admit it, I don't particularly like independant films. Not sure why, but I just don't. I'm much more a summer blockbuster, popcorn flick kinda dude. I like my EXPLOSIONS and GIANT ROBOTS. *Fist bumps Michael "The Explosionator" Bay*

Re: Films Everything
Uggh... emo mecha show leads.
I knew Kaname wasn't the only reason I liked Full Metal Panic. Sousuke, Kurz you guys rock! Thank you for not being emo losers!
Alto Saotome from Macross Frontier is pretty cool too, the fact that people mistake him for a girl notwithstanding. He may be a bit whiny sometimes, but he's not at an emo level with it.
Speaking of which, what's more humiliating, being beaten by a girl, or being beaten by a guy who looks like a girl?
