Buuuut Star Wars? Nuh-uh. Good and awesome, but not the best movie ever.

Saving Private Ryan IS THE BEST MOVIE EVAAAAAH!! (in terms of war movie)

Best series? Band of Brothers!

Saving Private Ryan was a good film. The only thing it lacked, though, was tanks fighting tanks. But when it all comes down to it, I'm more a fan of Pacific War movies like The Thin Red Line and Tora Tora Tora.

The Thin Red Line is an all-infantry combat. Tora Tora Tora is a display of our glorious day...and our worst mistakes EVAH!

World War II has major tank battles such as Kursk and Operation Supercharge, but I think that's about it. Allied Shermans would mostly be knocked out by German Panzer IV F2s, Panthers, or Tigers in a safe distance.

Its not the armor, but its the infantry. Infantry contributed most in terms of battles fought in the second world war.

What lacked in Saving Private Ryan is the Tiger tank's acuracy. The set of threads were recognizably T-34s--the placement of the Tiger's turret also proves this so (way ahead when it is supposed to be smack-bang in the center of the Tiger's body)

Although I have to salute those who work on the film on converting the Soviet T-34 into Tigers.


Speaking of Soviet, Enemy at the Gates is also a good movie. Only thing that seems to be misplaced is the romance...sure, in reality Vasily did have a love relationship with the medic, but in reality they never reunite after the Battle of Stalingrad. Vasily was blinded, and the Medic was sent somewhere out in the frontline...Kursk, I think.

They both survive the war, the nurse got married. After Vasily recovered his eyesight and got married. With the chance to see again, he goes to see the nurse (who's married) and recollect their past memories.

So sue me. I like to see tanks fighting tanks, even if it is at a distance. I don't complain about The Thin Red Line in that regard because the battle for Mount Austen and the Gifu Strongpoint didn't feature any tank-on-tank combat. Saving Private Ryan, however, should have included at least one scene where the tanks beat up on each other, since it happened pretty often in Normandy. Note how Band of Brothers included quite a bit of tank-on-tank combat - that left me satisfied where Saving Private Ryan didn't.

Enemy at the Gates, in all honesty, bored me STIFF. The best movie about the Eastern Front, in my opinion, was Stalingrad.

But anyway, its true there are tank on tank combats on Normandy but Allied kill rates against German's is waaay behind due to German tank quaility versus Allied. Once the fireflies are out, things do change. But hey, nothing satisfies me best seeing soldiers running head on against two German MG42s and getting ripped to shreds :p

Enemy at the Gates is all about sniper duel, so its no surprise. Stalingrad? I've never heard of the movie...

They had to sacrifice something like four Shermans to take down a single Tiger. Only difference was that the four Shermans could be easily replaced; the Tiger could not.

I prefer MG34s to 42s - more controllable, better made and less prone to burning up the ammo. And 'so sue me' is just a figure of speech, Panzer.

I heard sherman received the knick as a 'Tommy match' or somethign as it somehow burns its engines out itself and destroys the tank...

Anyone liked 'The Departed'? I haven't watched it myself (only watched the 'Infernal Affairs' trilogy, which I thought was pretty good), but I'm hearing good stuff about it.

I don't watch too many films, though I did see Balls of Fury a while back. What amazes me about it is that they managed to make a 1 1/2 hour film about table tennis that wasn't boring...

Probably because the UK has 12 -> 15 -> 18
So if it's a 16, it'll mean it doesn't qualify for 15, and ergo must go into 18 instead. Happened in the past...

IT's a 15 over here, and it isn't actually that great a movie. At several points I found myself thinking about how much quicker it would be if the GSG cyborgs were there

WHAT?!!? How dare you even compare Band of Brothers to those!!

Band of Brothers has superior special effects, action sequences and... war drama!! (who needs drama when theres war drama!)

Ok, so Band of Brothers doesn't have lulz or love decagons. But its not ment to be about lulz and love decagons.

I consider Heroes to be vastly over-rated. Dr. House is pretty good, though.

I actually like heroes. Pretty cool, except for the plot holes and the no-so-actiony action scenes.

I've never been huge on televisions series, the exception of Stark Trek Deep Space Nine. Best. Trek. EVER. Now a days I mostly just catch the stuff that I think is really interesting on dvds through Netflix. Battlestar Galatrica is pretty awesome, and I'm waiting for the fourth season on dvd. Oh of my most recent dvds was Southland Tales. For what I can tell most people are of the opinion the movie sucks, a lot. I couldn't decide after my first watching if was the worst, or best movie I've watched in a while. After the second time, I decided it was awesome. I like to think of it as the Army of Darkness to films like Donny Darko, maybe not as funny, but still awesome.

I believe Germans called the Sherman the Zippo, because the lighters company promise their lighters would light on the first strike. Not unlike the Sherman...

the new stuff that is printed (anything after 2001) is garishly boring. try yo get your hands on the old stuff... I recommend the Original Xmen # 99 (impossible to get) to 200. After 250, it just gets stupid.

In fact, it got stupid after 175... but there are a few good spins in it.

Loved Xmen 141 & 142... Days of Future Past.

I think that's a generalization, Elfen - quite a few of the recent Dini-penned Batman issues were quite good. And if you recommend that he go for the old stuff, just make sure he doesn't go any further back than the Denny O'Neil era.

Was Heath Ledger the Joker? If so, he certainly did his job well, that was some of the best acting I've seen in a long time
