Chapter 45-49 happen in V9. Since the seasons this far follow about 1.5 - volumes, we're speaking about Episode 6 or so for this to happen.

It only looks like Angie dies in the end of Season 1, but Marco's last words explain it all, "...you're asleep." Thus her return in Season 2 was paramount, as it was in V3/V4.

I always thought that Angelica's father was the driver. Because it made the whole situation more diabolical on the part of the parents.

Its never been said that the mother or anyone else in the family was involved, but only the father. Even the pre2000 GsG Doujins have this story to be fact.

And he was caught in the end.

In as much as we strive for a particular mood when we write fic, I think it's fair to apply the same expectation when reading canon. GssG is a depressing piece. If there's a way it can pull at our heart without being melodramatic (or, perhaps even being melodramatic, in Angie's case), it's safe to expect it to do so.

By having the father be the one do actually do the driving and attempt the vehicular homicide, we get one more example of how effed up the world is, that someone is so desperate to kill a girl so sweet and beautiful for something so venal.

Given what little I've learned about the canon and Yu Aida, I'd be disappointed in him were he to miss this opportunity to add one more nettle into our psyches.

Aida knows what he's doing alright, it's like he was making the point that while the father was arrested for trying to murder his child for money, the government and the corporations that work with it rescued her only to use the child to instead to murder others at their bidding. What's more diabolical: Killing for money, or rescuing someone only to make them kill. Clearly, Yutaka Aida pulls no punches.

If Angelica is not in heaven, then she is in heaven - in hell kicking Padania butt and soon to take over hell from Satan.

It's sad that Angelica died but made even worse by the fact that the writers probably bumped her off to make way for fanservice characters like Petruskha which is dumb. I would've liked to see Angelica beat the odds again and survive to have a decent life but it wasn't to be......

Yu had more than enough characters to work with prior to the intro of Petra. After she came along he started throwing new ones in right and left. It’s to the point now where you have to refer back Wiki just to refresh your memory on who’s who.

After Venice, it would be prudent for the Italian government to increase security at major installations and tourist sites.

If your father is doing unarmed security at a nuke site, then the protection inside must be less than of a shopping mall.

There's a huge difference between the M41 Pulse Rifles and the sentry guns in Aliens. Same difference here. No one said "unarmed," just not with auto turrents (and a Macross 'bridge bunny' UI.)

There's two tiers of security at this site, armed and un-armed. Dad says that he didn't want the extra hassle of having to qualify with a PT test and a VICIOUS firearms qual course. I ain't mad at him. *grins*

Given the resources at Padania's command (submarines, blackhawk helicopters, APC's etc) Italy appears to be in a state of potential civil war, so I guess the sentry guns aren't that far out.

I dont think its Padania. I think its the resources that the upper level of Padania, "The Elders" as I call them and Christiano was once part of, have. What they do with those resources is on them. Chances are that they fund the terrorist acts with money and those resources. We all know what Christiano does.

I dont expect arm guards to be carrying those things. In fact, for such sites, they should have something more than a S&W .38 revolver.

Taking the Section 2 compound dorm in consideration, it has been shown that there are guards there. But to what extent are they carrying? I doubt they would be carrying anything more than what they can put into a hip holster. Compared to the Cyborgs, they are out gunned despite that they might outnumber them. If anything, little do the guards realize it, they are there just for show of deterrence. If anyone wants to over take the compound, the elimination of the guards would be easy. But after that, those who would dare will now have a firefight on their hands with the cyborgs.

I heard about Angelica's death well in advance, but no spoiler can ruin Gunslinger Girl for me, and though I was expecting it, it still had an impact. Maybe that speaks for the quality of Yu's writing. I can't think of a better possible way that she could have been sent off, so I'm going to give props where they are due.

Oh, and she didn't actually die in the first season, because she appeared in the second season.

Me too for that matter... I get the impression that, at the time she did "die" a the end of Season 01 to effectively give it an ending (with, at that stage, no Season 02 in sight), which was later retconed in light of the manga for Season 02.

Too bad that can never happen. It would be nice though.

I dunno, I hear it as "Are you asleep?" - then the girls are shown singing, credits roll... which leaves it fairly open ended. *Shrugs* I still think it was the Madhouse production team's intention to "kill" her off at the end of the first season after they diverged from the manga, if only to help give the show a definate "ending".

Lets say that he kills Angie in Season 1. But that would not have ended the anime series because there were the others still living. If he wanted to end Season 1 as the end of GsG, he would have had all the girls killed in the end.

There were too many open ends in Episode 13 of Season 1 for me to say Angie was killed off.

That's kinda why I didn't like where the ending is/was heading. So many cyborgs and handlers killed off. D: It kinda cheapens it for me, it seems like the easy way out.

I see your point Triela and I agree but I still want to see how it plays out. I liked how he has handled the deaths thus far but there has been so many of them.

What choice does Yu have, really? The girls all have deathclocks inside their heads because of their condition ing. Either he invents a 'cure', or they all die, and some of the Generation 1s right soon (I truly believe Silvia's handler euthanized her out of love and pity). If there's no way out for them anyway, why not give them each a dramatic and worthwhile end?

Yu: let some of the girls die in their handlers' arms at least, will you?

He could just end the series on an open-ended note, like how Season One of the anime ended. We get that the girls will die eventually; that doesn't mean we have to see it happen.

Then how would you end it? Suggestion?

Ending: The girls pack up their handlers' cars for a mission with Dante

the end.

To be a little more specific, Yu could've gone for a Calvin and Hobbes type ending. Calvin and Hobbes didn't end with Calvin growing older or passing away or outgrowing Hobbes or anything like that. It just ended with Calvin and Hobbes riding happily off into the snow. An open ending.

Yu still has a chance for that to a certain degree with the remaining characters at this point. Regardless of how he decides to end it I think it will be well done.
