Ok finally got this sorted out :oops:

Anyways, this is the thread where I shall be posting my fanart for the forum from now on.

Comments/critism is always welcome, but refrain from posting pictures of someone else's fanart you find or make yourself please Very Happy

In the last topic I had, someone had PMed me with praise on a fanart I didn't draw (though I wish I could draw that well Razz

.) Had to take time and sort that misunderstanding out.

This way people won't be believe I'm drawing things I'm not, lol.

Lol, what actually happened was I got fed up trying to draw her hair the way I wanted it to look and when the going gets tough - you make your characters look unkept. Laughing

My first though was Triela as Tyler Durden, and Claes as the Narrator. Then after paying closer to that sentences I realized what you where implying.

Suddenly the scene was reworked with Hilshire, Dishwashing gloves, and the line, "You want to finish him off?"

Here's some art of an OC I'm currently in the mix of creating. Nothing is 100% solid so far, but I can say that the name of this cyborg is "Laine." It's a group of head studies because I wanted to practice drawing one character repeatedly with different expressions and try to keep the hair relatively consistant.

Please excuse the roughness, drew them during a long car ride and didn't have time to clean them up.

Great artwork, Rusty - your head and shoulders sketches of Henrietta and Triela are my favorites of the bunch. I love the intricate work you've done on their hair.

A quibble I have with Claes and Rico is that there seems to be something off about their facial structure. Also, Laine - while an interesting character whom I'd certainly like to know more about - looks also a tad old. At first glance, I'd peg her for one of those second-generation girls. But all these are but minor gadflies in an ocean of ointment.

Claes actually didn't end up "being" Claes until it came down to deciding on a hairstyle, then GSG popped into my head and it went from there (i.e. the three other GSG girls I drew.) Razz

Rico...yeah...for some reason when it came to Rico I just couldn't make the sketch work. Dunno why. I'll have to take another crack at it.

As for Laine and her older appearance, well that's explained in the OC thread a bit. Short version being she hates helplessness and being a kid = helplessness. Does everything in her power to appear/act older to thwart being an adolescent.

a little advice for the Rico sketch: sideburns are too big and flare on the bottom, and the expression is so very un-Rico (too knowing, kinda slutty)... and her eyes should be round... she's European, not Asian.
... bang-up job on 'Etta and Triela, though.

^ Well obviously the "Suzumiya Haruhi" hairstyle was merely on a whim during a lack of concentration, but as for the rest, perhaps disguises, but merely because I was trying to find an alternate hairstyle for the OC.

Afterall, not all women wear the same hairstyles every day (well ok they actually DO in animation, but that's beside the point.)

The ponytail is Laine's "signature" hairstyle, but I do think every character should have at least a second style. Such as Triela and her hair down. 'Etta with her headband-thingy, Claes with her ponytail (as seen during her shooting range scenes.)

Idle hairstyles are the devil's playground afterall.

Ok, now word of warning. This page is CRAP.

I wanted to see what it would be like to create a set of panels for some sort of fan-comic. The two closeups are passable. However, when it came to the last panel where the viewpoint is pulled out, things go downhill fast.

Firstly I need to rethink my method. Instead of drawing small, I'm going to have to draw BIG, then use photoshop to shrink the image down so I can paste it into the template. (I thought drawing hands was hard as it is, it's even worse when they're 1/4 inch big...

)

Secondly, my poses and proportions need to get way better before I undertake a project like this. Oh yeah, and my clothing design skills. Laughing

ANYWAYS, I put this up because second opinions are good. Also because it's the first image of Laine's handler Clayland (who probably won't keep this look.)

Ah yes, I apologize that my OC has blonde hair.

Just that I had thought that if I gave her black hair then she'd "just be Claes with a pony tail." Or if I gave her brunette hair she'd "just be an older looking Henrietta." Ignoring the fact that if you could mix and match the hair of all the GSG girls and they'd pretty much look like each other (It's anime...) Afterall, all a character is is hair color. :roll:

But everyone's entitled to their opinions, I'll keep them all in mind. Alas the world of an artist. Razz

I think there’s a line here everyone is afraid to step over. If you say a bad thing about someone else’s OC, then you open your self up for counter attacks. As long as everyone smiles, keeps their mouths shut and say’s “good job”, everyone’s happy.

This is by no means a criticism, just an observation.

No apologies necessary buddy. You’re right. In the manga world, there’s only so much you can do with a face. Hair style (hair color too - you can even go with green and purple) eye color, skin tone, glasses. Other then that it’s all pretty much generic.

No apologies necessary buddy. You’re right. In the manga world, there’s only so much you can do with a face. Hair style (hair color too - you can even go with green and purple) eye color, skin tone, glasses. Other then that it’s all pretty much generic.

It makes it easier for the animation and print artists to slap together characters quickly. Its even is as far as one of my friend's in art school telling me that the body parts are in a bin on the computerized drawing software and are assembled quickly. Everything else is just positioning of the character and background. This does make it difficult for the non anime artists who freehand everything and tries to do his best to make it right. I have to say- thumbs up to you Rusty Spring!

I do the same thing for my online comic (when I get that part and start it again). But each of my characters has its own bin.

The pictures that were presented did not show them in uniform, they were in street clothes.

Here's an Oct. 31 special.

Triela dressed up as the character Fiona from the survival/horror game "Haunting Ground."

I tried some new photoshop techniques on this one. Tried to give it that eerie glow/fogginess to it. I also added particulars to give it that old photo look. Too bad a LOT of the detail (especially the skirt) was lost while doing this. :|

I wasn’t familiar with Haunting Ground, so I did a Goggle search. Pretty hot chick. If Triela is in fact able to “Grow up”, that’s the type of body I envision her as having.
