I heard the name Triela before. Interesting, when it's giving really.

Anyway, my kid get the name Rico. As girl or boy.

No matter what the Italians say, I think Rico is a sweet name for a girl.

Triela, on the other hand, is a very unique and hard to find
name, and leads me to believe that Hillshire picked it out very
carefully, as one would expect of ze German. It also fits perfectly, if
I'm right about it being a feminine pet form of 'Tyrrell'

As in "Tyrell Corporation"?

It would be interesting to compare the girls with the Nexus-6 Replicants.

At least the girls don't dream of electric sheep...

There's an Elvish female name variously spelled as Tyrael or Tiriel, for what it's worth. It's that of a lunar goddess, who's also dubbed 'The Silent Guardian'.

'Silent Guardian' would be a cool nickname for the SWA.

Yup, I noted the whole 'in use' thing earlier in the thread. Personally met someone called Triela, though it wasn't in the States.

Both "Rico" and "Hentrietta" can be seen as variations on thier fratello's sisters name, and an obsession therewith. If anything it is sad, as they are but proxies or subsititutes...

I don't think it's been explicitly mentioned anywhere in the canon that Jean and Giuseppe picked those names for their cyborgs because they resembled their sister's name.

Every indication points to them wanting to put that behind them. Giving their wards a name that resembles their lost sister will only serve to drag the whole issue up again.

Well I do believe Jose chose Henrietta because she looks almost exactly like Enrica did at 10, so that may have influenced his choice in naming her. He even had the doctors cut her hair to better match Enrica's look.

Well he said that he didn't know why he chose her. Maybe he did it unconsciously or he's lying to himself.

It might indeed be a little of both.

But I believe Enrica's memory influenced that choice as I see too many hints in the manga that support such a supposition.

Well, considering that Nicola is considered a boy's name because it is the Italian form of "Nicholas" but is also a girl's name (because it's the latinate feminine form of the same name) I think the whole "boy"'s name thing is a cultural thing.

As for Angelica, Marco derived it from her real name, Angelina. In chapter 11, Marco surmises that Angelica's "father was absolute scum... but he had the right idea in naming her after Angelo, the Angels." Angelo is, again, a boy's name - and comes from Angelus.

(I also loved the connection that Rico and Henrietta essentially have the same name)

Not explicitly, but I was too lazy to quote. So, here it is...

ElfenMagix wrote: Remember, these two are English version of same name.
In Spanish, Henry is Enrique, thus Henrietta is Enriqua. Enrique short is either Ricky or Rico. So, both girls have the same name. The Italian version for the name is the same.

When I wrote that, the speculation of their names connecting was quite high. Now that there are more background fact to their names, this is now a mere concidence. This connection is still there, but it is not the reason why they recieved their names.

Fair enough. But, still, for when it was made, I think it's quite a clever thought... subtext tends to fly past unnoticed, for me. ^^;
