On the Dengeki Daioh site, there are a series of short 4 panel comics for various series that I think are included in the latest magazine. I think the chibi pic is related to them. Here's the GsG comic I found:

On that note, I've noticed that Yu's "Jewelbox" site has been updated for the first time in months, too. The picture looking down on a gun-toting Claes has been replaced by a baseball-slinging girl:
Is he branching out into sports manga? Is this just a miniseries or oneshot, or does it have bigger implications for interfering with the publication of GSG? Or is this something old that he's pulled out from the archive from earlier on in his career (I notice that his art style here is more remiscent of the earlier GSG volumes than his modern style), and he's just showing it for history's sake?

Re: YuArt
Also on Yu''s site there are a few text links to another set of images that are penned by him but not related to Gunslinger Girl - evidently he''s been commissioned for design work for some J-RPG as well.
Ah, I see what happened now. After pitching into the drink at the climax to Il Teatrino, Caterina washes up on the North African shore. She''s lost her memories seeing as half of her skull was shot away, and so once her convalescence was completed she made it up to the family who took her in the only way she could, now that all of her bomb-making talent was smeared over the headrest of her Alfa Romeo - by working in their bar as a belly dancer. The mystery of Vol. 5 is solved!

A quick notification for everyone that after a break of over three months Yu has finally got round to updating his art blog over the last few days with three new pictures, and even a little ASCII art too. None of it is GSG-related, unfortunately, but it may still be interesting to see what he's been up to.

Re: YuArt
Yu updates his Jewelbox website even more infrequently than his artblog, but a new change has occured in the last fortnight or so. The GSG Vol. 10 preview image has finally been replaced by a Vol. 11 banner instead (it's nothing special, just a cut'n'paste of the top half of the cover), but it also has another picture of the "Versus Underhanded Pitch" baseball-themed set:
Does anyone know what this is all about? The style makes me believe that it's been drawn fairly recently. Is it prepartory work for his next title? A doujinshi he's making on the side? Concept images that never went past the drawing board and he's lifting out of the bin? Alas, I can't make head or tail of the captions so if anyone else can decipher them I'm sure that we'd all be interested.

More baseball from the Jewelbox:
If this is Yu's next project after he wraps up on GSG, is it really the most advisable one? Isn't baseball supposed to be haemorrhaging support in Japan right now? I can't imagine the margins on products being too strong if that's the case...

I do believe that it's none other our very own Claes:
On another note, Yu's comments on his artblog are taking a turn for the bizarre, with some strange series of ASCII art having some mutant beaver being harassed by a black dot.
Take a look for yourself at the full series...
There's a mention of "CANAAN" at the bottom of the post but beyond that I don't know what he's been smoking. Is anyone else willing to hazard a guess...?

While it became a little incoherent towards the end, Canaan was a fun action-adventure romp, and the Japanese seem to have agreed because there's apparently a Canaan film in production. Yu also seems to be a fan:

Re: YuArt
yay for canaan fanart!!!
Love that Claes pic, maybe i'm wrong but that's the bluest i've seen him draw Claes' hair , in the manga and il teatrino it's black or dark blue , and there it's close to the madhouse version.
More versus underhanded pitch stuff
tried googling it again and got this from ebay:
"Thanks a lot! Buyer: gil_230 ( 121 ). Jun 19, 2009 06:35. JUWEL BOX Doujinshi " Versus Underhanded Pitch" Yu Aida (#200348314691), US $29.99, View Item ..."
So it is a doujinshi and looks like someone bought it back in june

A-ha... Thanks for solving the mystery, Totoum. Thinking about it, you can see the doujinshi origins - those flat-colour covers are certainly cheap.
I'm glad that it's a doujinshi and not an actual commercial project - I'm not at all interested in baseball and while I'm always open to trying something new now and again I'm not sure that I'd want to be a regular buyer of something on that subject.

Re: YuArt
I didn't like Canaan, but that art is not bad.
And Versus Underhanded Pitch being a doujin does indeed make sense. If Yu really is writing the denouement of GSG over the next volume, I could see him both wanting to experiment with something new through a doujin. And if he still intends to keep going forward with GSG into a 13th volume and beyond, I can see him also using it as a way to "recharge and refresh" after so many years of grinding out chapters of GSG.

Kind of sad actually...
It appears the SWA was shut down due to budget cuts, and deprived of their anti-growth drugs the girls were finally permitted to become adults. Unfortunately, Rico was hooked on the conditioning, and became a junkie, which is what we see here.
