The end of the SWA? Spoilers!

Hello!! New poster here. I've always liked GSG, I never knew this site existed! O:

So!

I just finished the manga series. What has happened to the cyborgs and handlers? Jean appears to hold some government position; it seems Rico isn't alive? (Due to photo at his desk.)

I know it wasn't a happy ending; although Petra got to relive her past and remember, and Triela got to 'live on' through Speranza. But what of the girls? Were they 'exterminated'? I remember reading that the Agency will have to band together over a new task, since Dante is gone.

The idea that the girls will be put down now that Dante's gone is silly. It's like saying the Navy SEALS are to be disbanded now that bin Laden is dead.

I think the ending classified nicely as "bittersweet"... quite in fitting with the GSG universe.

As to what happend afterwards... well that bit with Jean seems to be set quite some way in the future. There has been some speculation that "Pandora" is Rico, who knows. My personal feeling is that by that stage the cyborgs are dead: either in action or from "old age".

That said, there's plenty of enemies to fight after the Padania, so my feeling is that the SWA kept on afterward: it was afterall intended to bring technology gleaned from the cyborg program to the commercial market. That's a hell of an investment to write off with no financial return.

I have to agree with both Alfisti and Nachtsider. The SWA Section II has always been on the front line of law enforcement of those not willing to be captured or too rich and powerful to affect a jury's outcome. It is the SWA itself in Section I and other area where intel gathering, records keeping, investigations and other services much like our FBI that will keep it running as its own agency or merge with another one. Section II medical advancements being given to the public will also keep it open for years to come.

This is not the end of the SWA or the girls. Just because Cyborgs and Team members are killed off or bad guy captured or killed does not that the agency is dead. Just the opposite: Cyborgs and team members can be replaced with others, and more missions are available after the intel has been gathered.

If the agent who ferreted out the 'New Blue' organization's plans is the keeper of Hope, then...

Either that or it is meant to mean that now they've opened the box there's no stopping what's gotten out. One way or the other I figured who/whatever "Pandora" is then they're some offshoot or remnant of the original SWA program.

Either that or Mr Aida was watching Doctor Who at the time... which is also a nice thought.

I prefer the former, Alfisti. A gunslinger Girl X Dr. Who crossover would be too whacked out for my preferences.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting a crossover... but there was quite a good two parter featuring Pandora's box at the end of the 11th Doctor's first season.

The last chapter of the manga featured a timeskip forward... part of it is Jean still working for some form of government agency (albeit with an epic mustache). During the scene he refers to an (off camera) agent called "Pandora"... there has been some speculation that that's Rico.

Say, wasn't someone working on a Dr. Who x GsG graphic novel? I recall seeing a pic with Triela ready to lay down some pain on a Dalek.

Pandora eh? i now see the connection between the word "speranza" with that Pandora legend XD

I felt that the end was a nod to the beginning where the SWA was the last best hope for many of these girls to live again, and have a meaningful life. What bugged me was how much the Mueller looked like Dante, I thought for sure there was a connection there.
