Was that Angelica's grave stone Marco was crying in front of?
Was she cremated? What does the SWA do when their "dolls" die anyway?

It probably is, Nile, but considering how resilient cyborgs are, it'd take some strong furnace to melt down the corpses. Prior to Volume Nine, I was always of the impression that they encased the bodies - well, Elsa's body, anyway - in concrete, took them out to the middle of the Atlantic, and dumped them into the water.

Whichever way the SWA disposes of dead cyborgs, it would definitely have to take into account the need to prevent anyone from discovering the corpses, taking them home and opening them up to see how the cyborgs tick.

ya, actually the whole issue with Angie is just one change in vol. 9. no one else speeks much of the rest of the stuff that happened in the volume

I would say that's over kill, but per rule 37: There is no 'overkill.' There is only 'open fire,' and 'time to reload.' All you need is a secure location for the body. If the body was buried inside the walls of the compound I wouldn't give the body a second thought security wise. Outside it becomes a slightly bigger issue, but it would still have security through obscurity. Not super reliable, but it should still work. Encasing the body, and dumbing it would be bad for moral, and the return per dollar would be smaller compared to other methods.

Also furnaces have always been energy intensive. Teeth are difficult to burn. So I figure you would just have to spend longer burning a cyborg, but what's a bit of gas compared to a boat into the Atlantic. By the way did you mean the Atlantic, or the Mediterranean?

This may sound a little gruesome and I would hope it’s not true, but maybe they salvage the parts that won’t burn for future use.

I doubt it. Most of these parts must be custom. I've always taken the view that the agency uses organic tech for the most part. So you might have an issue with rejection. Besides there is always the sizing issue. Not to mention with the new girl you could make that correction in the heart valve you've been meaning to get around to. So I doubt the SWA recycles their cyborgs.

Why? Because she's my favorite of the Gunslinger Girls AND she was a sweet and kind hearted girl.

One must remember- Angie died doing the one thing she was meant to do: Protect Marco at All Costs. She did her job as she was supposed to, and as the standard that all other cyborgs must follow. I can see issuses here with certain cyborgs:

Triela- for she does question Hillshire's orders and is always questioning him.
Petrushka- for she almost questions everything.

if only... that would've been much less painful than the partial recovery and subsequent mental and physical breakdowns... poor kid.

A yet-to-be-uttered line in an upcoming fanfic of mine features a cyborg (I won't let slip who) saying: "Better go out in a glorious fireball on the battlefield than slowly waste away on a hospital bed." But Angie's death has left a big, empty hole in me - I've always had a soft spot for her, and tried my utmost to portray her in the heroic light she deserves. She will be missed.

To LoC - I meant the Atlantic. The Med, being a largely inland sea, is prone to washing things up on the shores that surround it.

I suppose that if Angie had to die, then dying in defense of her handler Marco was a good way to go.

Still, I feel bad that she died even though I had a strong suspiscon that it was coming given the nature of the 'Gunslinger Girl" series and how Angelica was the very first junior operative thus being more prone to breakdowns.

One thing's for sure. IF i ever write fanfics involving "Gunslinger Girl", Angelica is definitely NOT going to kick the bucket since I'm a sucker for happy endings. (i know that's lame but hey, happy endings is what I like to see)

im probably going to get flamed for saying this (as i damn well should)
but i think it might be a good thing that she died

ever since elsa died in vol one there hasn't been one case where a cyborg died
and even then elsa didn't die in battle
she killed herself
there was hardly any worry that one of the girls could be KIA
the death of a character can be a great catalyst for any plot and killing off a much loved side character (i loved her too,but of all the girls she got the least amount of screen time)has that effect
the after effect of angie's death shows many other characters acting worried about that possiblty

made sandro actually make a move on petra
and made hillsher so overprotective of triela that he actually took on a job on his own rather then risk getting her hurt
and we still dont know how this affects jose and etta
and im betting its going to have a lot of impect on them

her death set several plots in motion and with luck will push the manga to a better place

however i did think that her death was too drawn out
she got hit by the blast in one chapter and spent the next 3 chapters slowly dying just for the sake of milking it for more emo impect
and while it was painful to see it happen its was only painful becouse she's such a sweet angel and if it was any other manga with any other adult character it would never fly
the key to using death to progress the plot is not to show the person who's dying but to show how others react to the death and they could have spent several chapters on this insted of watching her fade for 3 chapters and then show character responce for one chapter
i think they should have spent one chapter giving her the spotlight and then just killed her off suddenly
have her go out with a bang and not a wimper
it would also make a bigger shock becouse that way readers would think she is about to become a more central character and then get punched in the gut

thats just how i see it and now if you'll excuse me

Its to also show how resilent a cyborg is. Looking back at history: US Military barracks in Beriut, Lebanon; Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; WTC Bombing in NYC, NY; U.S. embassies in Nairobi in Kenya, and Dar es Saalam in Tanzania; Habarana in Sri Lanka, etc- with with deaths surpassing 100 and millions of dollars of damages. Anybody within the epicenter of the blast is turned into hamburger meat, and smeared across what ever walls reamins standing.

The blast proved one thing- How much can a cyborg take and still be functional (physically). Angie died (from what I gathered of the medical diagrams shown), from ether a brain hemorage that would stop bleeding, or swelling of the brain from sustained injury from the blast. Outside of that- she sustained a blast that killed everyone around her, destroyed neary buildings, and managed to save Marco at the same time.

Considering that Angie was already falling apart as far as cyborg condictioning is concerened, she stood up to a truck bomb and lived long enough to tell about it! Any other cyborg in better condition would do better on the field. If given a few extra seconds of time, she may have been able to run to the truck and kill them before the bomb is detonated.

True. As much as I hated to see Angie go, her death has definitely sparked some serious emotional drama.
