It's meant to replace the M16 among all guns! 6.8 mm that's practically one good shot one bad kill!

It doesn't appear to be selective-fire, though - is that link for the civilian version?

still, I'd take the 6.5 Grendel over it. the SPC seems to fall short a bit past 200m. Both are a bit too small for the one-shot one-kill philosophy, though.
7.62x51mm still rocks my socks.

With the US military being such a large potential customer, one should expect such a thing to occur. Since technology has not progressed to the point where significant gains can be made with a radically different design many suitors of the US military will instead try to offer a slightly better product that requires the minimum of change - competing on price primarily since they're all going to be offering similarly effective improvements on the current in-service design.

I prefer tasting the flavors off a Thompson SMG or a bolt-action Mosin-Nagant any day Very Happy

Modern Rifles are cool, but I think a taste of 'the mother of all assault rifles' would be nice (StG 44) Very Happy

Fomoria:
It also helps that you really only have to mess with half the gun to make a different gun. So even in the civilian market it makes a lot of sense. Your not looking for a ground up change, just tweaking the upper receiver. I'll be honest I don't know a lot about guns practically, but the M-16/AR-15 family seems relatively unique in that regard.

Anyway the M-16 isn't the only gun in the world. The number of variants though is just mind boggling to me. It make sense to be sure, but realizing it just acts on my brain in a different way.

It has been going around since...1950 is it?

There's the AR-15, then the M16A1 (Early), M16A1 Vietnam Version, M16A1 (late Vietnam), M16A1 (late-er), M16A2, M16A3, M16A4, Knights SR-16, then there's a few others...

I don't know the rest x_x;

Not all of these variants are terribly different. However if you just go by the number of different calibers there are you get a lot of different weapons. Add to that guns like the SCAR that seem to have grown out of the AR-15 family. It's a lot of different weapons.

well, I finally found the time to go out and fire my PSL... and I must say, she's a sweet rifle. The recoil is barely a tap compared to what I expected... not even a quarter as hard as my Type-99.
That being said... I have no 100yd shotgroups to show you, because my scope is so far out of whack (still shooting about 10 degrees to the right at mechanical left) that I couldn't hit anywhere near the target using it. Guess it needs a boresight. I put a bunch through the target with iron sights, but the groupings were downright laughable.
Still, I had a lot of fun, and I took a few videos. Just gotta figure out a place to host 'em. Haven't counted up the number of rounds I used yet, though I'm down to less than 40 (only had about 100 to start) for my Type-99, and I probably put a little over a hundred each through my CZ and PSL.
Full report to follow, hopefully sometime this week. Now, if you'll all excuse me, I've got to get up in just over 4 hours...

My dad kept a Sig P229 in the glove compartment from his UN days. Its wierd when I was a kid I never knew he had a gun. My mom is such a hardass she almost took away my airsoft guns. Jeez, I'll never get to fire another gun again. Last time I fired a gun was 6 years ago in Civil Air Patrol Basic Encampment.

I bought 300 rounds for $120. Going to the shooting range Tuesday.

Not bad for a first gun purchase.

So did I. Unfortunately it was only an Airsoft. But you’re right, it has a very unique feel to it, almost like it’s part of you.

I’ve only owned one gun in my days, a Ruger 10/22. I ended up selling it because I just never used it that much.

Just a quick thought. With the new Sprinfield XDM that can hold 19 9mm rounds in the magazine (and 16 in .40SW) I can't see why you would pick any other 9mm - aside from common sense answers like "I just don't want one." or "This other gun suits me better." That's too easy. Razz

Sure, the 9mm can be considered anemic, but 19 rounds...If nothing else, I'm getting one for the zombie apocalypse.

anyway, I'll go with my Glock 30 / Glock 21 / SBR SO combo for the apocalypse. maybe I'll get a Glock 17 to throw in my bag in case I find a big ol' cache of 9mm. 17+1 ain't too shabby either, and the thing's more comfortable in my hand.

A couple of my OCs are getting pretty damn close to that figure with the latest round of pistol shuffling among my OCs (not yet reflected in their profiles). In fact, Felisa's PX4 can actually exceed that by one round if it's using extended magazines.

Also, while I believe the XD (M) added a manual safety as well, on the standard XD isn't the grip safety critically important, given that the gun is, IIRC a single action? Wouldn't carrying one of those with the grip safety disabled be kind of a bad idea?

You just had to bring Glocks into this didn't you? The more field tested and approved older brother. Razz All joking aside, you're right. Not much difference between 19+1 and 17+1. At that capacity, if 2 rounds are make or break then perhaps that person should start investing in a 30 round SMG.

Kiskaloo wrote:Any Gunslinger Girl who needs 19 rounds in a pistol is unworthy of the title.

Ah, but there you misunderstood me my good man. Who said needing the 19 rounds? That just means more headshots for less reloads. Razz

Piero wrote:Also, while I believe the XD (M) added a manual safety as well, on the standard XD isn't the grip safety critically important, given that the gun is, IIRC a single action?

The XD(M) is striker fired like the Glock, so I dunno how the classification goes for striker fired guns in relation to single action/double action/etc. I would guess the XD(M) is considered in the same category as the Glock.

I know of one shop that has sent back three XDM's due to physical failures of one kind or another. One had the frame's slide retainer fail and the slide just came right off. Not to mention the fact that you can't rack the slide without the grip-safety engaged.

Nope, I'll stick with my flawless-running M&P40, but to each their own, ya know?

DA/SA depends on what you feel the qualification is, and there is always someone arguing it. USPSA/IDPA consider any gun to be double-action if pulling the trigger cocks the firing pin or hammer at all. The M&P is considered a double-action striker because the striker moves back a minute amount before release, due to the sear and striker shapes. Glocks are DA. The XD(M) is single since the striker is fully cocked in battery.

At 16+ rounds in his AA M1981/84, Fernando get close to that mark! Now that he has two of them!!! Guh?

If Rachel carries both hers and Fernando's NAA .32/.38's with the unlocking gun safety watches each and using the 10 round extended magazines, she at 20+ rounds right there! But that is using 2 guns at the same time.

Now that is a girl who's fire power you do not want to mess with... even when wearing light body amour! NO

not bad, though a Glock is an incredibly quick disassembly in the first place. 5-10 seconds for a field strip is pretty standard to someone who knows the weapon.

reminds me of a film quote,

Rooster Cogburn: Why, by God, girl, that's a Colt's Dragoon! You're no bigger than a corn nubbin, what're you doing with all this pistol?
Mattie Ross: It belonged to my father, he carried it bravely in the war, and I intend to kill Tom Chaney with it if the law fails to do so.
Rooster Cogburn: Well, this'll sure get the job done if you can find a fence post to rest it on while you take aim !

I drudged up a comparison size photo of one those handguns, and you're right. It's a frigging monster. If you make a Desert Eagle look small, then I think that falls into "monster" category.

The Walker is at the bottom, and why do I have the urge for Texas Ranger jokes? (BTW, what is the huge mutant Single Action Army looking thing in the middle?)

Another photo for good measure, against a 1911.

so anyway, I know I promised videos and such of my various shooting trips long ago... but...
thing is, I don't have the technology/patience/inclination to set up multiple cameras, show target impacts and such... so any videos of serious shooting are rather pointless and boring:
