Re: gun nut thread
Keep in mind with the Sig rifle that Elsa was only shown with it in the anime. And that it was an early chapter which had Rico with the Sig. So actually, Rico was established as having used the rifle before Elsa was.
BTW, it the Dragunov was disassembled, would the sight need to be rezeroed when it was reassembled? For a sharpshooter's rifle, something like that could be an important consideration.
By the way, anyone curious as to what I'm thinking of having my cyborg carry in her viola case?

Anime, manga... they're both the same thing, really, when it comes to Gunslinger Girl (Season Two's art style notwithstanding). I'm not sure why a lot of people talk about them as though they're talking about two different items. You're may be right about Rico using that SiG before Elsa (Elsa being the new girl and all that), though.
Fire away about your cyborg's mystery weapon, Piero. We're all ears.

Re: gun nut thread
I always thought it was a SMG, or assult rifle in Rico's instrument case. Much like Angelica carried a TMP in her case, instead of her full sized Steyr Aug. Maybe it was just a pistol, and some grenades. Besides just size issues a long barrel rifle is not a good weapon for sudden close range engagments. I do not see her Dragunov in that case. She probably carries it in a special bag.

Well, it's not a single weapon so much as a kit that allows her to rapidly respond to a variety of situations on the fly. It also isn't completely set in stone at this point, but anyway...
The centerpiece is an HK53A3, stock collapsed, loaded with a 20 round magazine of 75gr Hornandy TAP ammunition and fitted with a sight rail that's used to attach a 1.1-4x Schmidt and Bender Short Dot scope via a quick detach mount. (Arguably a bit much for such a short barelled weapon, but its a nice scope.)
That weapon is placed overtop of two cloth twin magazine pouches with shoulder straps attached. Essentially, she can take one of these and throw it over her shoulder if she has to go in somewhere (much easier then carrying the entire case with her). Between them, the pouches contain four 40 round magazines -three of 75gr Hornandy TAP and one of 62gr Federal Tactical (which has better penetration against barriers).
And since the HK53 is so short with the stock collapsed (under 23 inches), there's room in the neck of the case for additional equipment. I've been thinking two flashbangs and a sound suppressor for the Sig pistol she carries.
It's certainly not perfect (the HK53's short barrel is a fairly serious limitation) and it may well weight over twenty pounds, but it is versatile.
I also wonder a bit about whether there would be sufficient padding with all that crammed in there, but I can't exactly test that IRL.

Re: gun nut thread
Speaking of optics, does anyone remember the issue of the scope on Angie's AUG? Well, the anime version and manga version are a bit different, and I was noticing recently that the manga version looks a lot like a 1.5-6x42mm Schmidt and Bender. Which, while still awfully powerful for an assault rifle, actually seems like something that would make a viable optic for one that was supposed to be used for sharpshooting (especially if its one of the models which has an illuminated dot or circle in addition to crosshairs).
Also, I've had to reconsider the sighting system for my cyborg's viola case HK53, because I did some fact searching and calculations and now have serious doubts about the gun's ability to fit in a sculpted viola case with the extra high of the Short Dot and it's quick detach mount. Anyone got any ideas for that? I've been thinking perhaps one of Aim Points micro red dot scopes (which are considerably smaller then one of their full size models) or something like a Doctor Optic.

M-16, M-4, SR-21...
basically it's a rifle based off of Eugene Stoner's originals, the AR-10 and AR-15.
...regarding my ammo search: looks like I'm screwed... that oldschool surplus stuff is ALL corrosive (which, while not a big deal in a Mosin-Nagant, is difficult to clean up after with a PSL/SVD). So I guess I'm stuck buying 20 round boxes of Wolf. Ah well.

Bought me another AR lower, but goddam that P-90 is mighty tempting. The Boss even cut me a deal and lowered the price down to $1200... but I couldn't do it... He said he'd save it for me when I come back to pick up the lower, but... $1200 is still out of my price range.

That's a pity. The Wolf ammo, while not bad, are shit compare to the surplus ammo. My M-44 can take 300+ rounds of those suckers and will only need a light bath in Windex to get 'er rifling all shiny again. Still wish I had me an SVD though... bastard

Re: gun nut thread
off the top of my head...
Two minutes or less under optimal conditions (something I've never experienced), five or less in the field. Minimal difference: the functions check takes marginally longer on the models I've handled... they all have a 3-round burst setting.
Still, one can tell that little girl had some serious practice at speed-field-stripping that weapon. Probably pretty good at cleaning it, too. That bit of detail work tends to be more important than simply field stripping. Wouldn't make for a good video though. Quite boring and takes a long time to do properly.
you should see the competition the armorers have with M9s... a buddy of mine stripped and reassembled one in 5 seconds flat. No joke... I had to ask "Why?" though...

Re: gun nut thread
You don't need a pistol grip to fire a weapon from your hip. The PPSh-41 didn't have a pistol grip, and it could be fired from the hip just fine.
'Black rifles' - what a riot. Would the fourth estate start railing against 'brown rifles' if the Beltway Snipers had used M-14s, or 'gray rifles' if the weapons in question were SAR-21s? Media articles on firearms should be produced by experienced professional shooters who actually know what they're talking about.

The only firearms my dad and I use are his Mossberg shotgun (becase the KER-CHACK! + verbal warning is the first warning we plan to give), My M44 (that bayonet is scary as hell as well as the sounds the bolt makes when cycling... kinda like CHIK-CHERK-CHACK-CHIK!), and his 1911 (The only one we plan on firing if there is ever a home invasion).
:buddy:
I know the M44 bit is kinda overdoing it, but hey, I don't have access to my dad's safe all the time, so it's the only choice I have when he's not around.

I'm referring to the segment that says the rfile is recommended for home defense, particularly for women. I don't find the lady scary at all, but responsible instead. She reminds me of the few ladies who could beat me at the high power range when I just started.
I had this in mind when I thought of home defense with an assault rifle

Oh.
Well, in general, rifles are bad for home defense. Too cumbersome, especially in California, since you can't have detachable mags...
Pistols and shotguns are the way to go.
Pistols because they're quick to deploy.
Shotguns because... well... they're fucking shotguns! No need to aim. Sure you'll damage you're property in the event you need to fire, but that's not likely to happen since the perp. will have already left or shit his pants.

Re: gun nut thread
the two big things about a home defense weapon: intimidation and mobility. carbines are fair at both.
However, pump-action shotguns excel at one, and handguns excel at the other.

Re: gun nut thread
gotta put (over) penetration into consideration, which is why a rifle catridge is not the way to go. Consequently, carbines is out of the question. If some fellow who's a next door neighbor is bragging how his/her home is protected by a 5.56, 30-06, 7.62 or similar caliber on AK, AR, garand, etc. platform, I won't be comfortable at all and try my best to have a 'chat' with said fellow. Once again, this apply to normal urban/suburban home. If you lives in a castle, who cares if you use 20mm. *Also if you're among the privileged who can get the restricted LEMAS ammo, then you're GTG*
Statistics can have a say in this. For the last 25 years, how many cases of home defense using assault rifle of any kind have been documented vs. pistol and shotguns. Btw, if you want to have the luxury of not aiming with a shotgun, you have to choose proper shots and choke. Otherwise, you DO have to aim or at least apply some basic marksmanship.
Also, one big factor is KNOW the applicable law in your state. Castle doctrine vs. duty to retreat. Depending on which one applies, you may already be on the wrong side should you choose to get out of your bed, search for the poor bastard, and engage. Either way, it's wiser and tactically more sound to wait by the bed with shotgun, phone on stand-by after 911 is called. Then rack that scattergun and yell to the intruder to get out (police is on the way) or else. Of course, there are some places with signs that say "We don't call 911 here." Crimes seem low in these areas. YMMV

Got a few shells filled with rock salt ready to go.
Inside the house it won't damage much, but it'll still scare the shit out of any intruder. Hell, even if he's past the 10 feet effective range, he'll be scared shitless at the fact he was shot at, lol.
If rock salt fails, we also have some less-than-lethal sandbag shots.

That's why I prefer slugs to shot. An 18 inch barrel will be at least as accurate as a .22. Also, I prefer pump to semi-auto mag in shotguns. A friend let me try his and the damn thing jammed. Shot shells are the absolutely last damn thing I need backfiring on (literally) me. It may have been a freak incidence, but it was enough to turn me away.
However, I wouldn't mind adding the drum attachment to my Mossberg. It's not exactly illegal in Cali, but the guy I go to get my tags from says I'm already pushing it with the A1 model, vented heat shroud, and bayonet. All items you can't buy, but can't not have in Cali.

500 rounds of 7.62x54R weigh a bit more than 11.25lbs...

I think this is more what Henrietta would like her gun to look like, and is continually begging Giuseppe to let her mod it to look like, but due to his desire for a shred of dignity, Giuse pretends she actually has never said anything of the sort, and buys her something expensive and distracting. XD It is the Christmas present she's eternally waiting for.
...Priscilla, on the other hand, is trying to get such color schemes instituted for every Fratello team.
