The more I think about it, the more I remember. God, I love Gunslinger Girl.

Additions:
Triela taking an unconscious Hilshire into her arms and uttering her sort-of prayer: 'Let me live with this man from day to day, and in the end, die with him.' Guess deep down, every cyborg wants to die with her handler.

And on that note: Jose and Henrietta's final scene. In one translation I've read, 'Etta's handler makes a shocking statement that nevertheless brings all the strange discontinuities of her behavior into focus for me. As he puts the gun to her head, he says, "This is what you've wanted all along, isn't it?"

And Henrietta, smiling her vacant brainwashed smile, puts her pistol to Jose's head and says, "Yes, signore."

"Oh, that's right. I'm sorry."

I have a little statuette of Rico in her housekeeping uniform at the moment she utters those words, complete with raised pistol and creepy little smile.

Hilshire and Triela's final moments. I remember, as the series was winding down, hoping desperately that Yu would at least allow some of the girls to die in their handlers' arms.

That was a most touching scene.

Agreed. And I think Yu got it spot on in having that pair be Triela and Hilshire, for all their history just prior to joining the Agency and their travails thereafter.

Ending "A Day in the Life of Claes" with Scarborough Fair

The doctor during that episode fighting back tears when Claes asks what the song means.

Triela after the first Pinocchio fight.  "I'm cybernetic and I was beaten with human hands.  Everything, all the risks, every sacrifice I've made has been for nothing.  It was all meaningless."  Seeing the confident mama bird at her lowest was pretty moving.
