I consider Heroes to be vastly over-rated. Dr. House is pretty good, though.

I actually like heroes. Pretty cool, except for the plot holes and the no-so-actiony action scenes.

Re: Films Everything
I've never been huge on televisions series, the exception of Stark Trek Deep Space Nine. Best. Trek. EVER. Now a days I mostly just catch the stuff that I think is really interesting on dvds through Netflix. Battlestar Galatrica is pretty awesome, and I'm waiting for the fourth season on dvd. Oh of my most recent dvds was Southland Tales. For what I can tell most people are of the opinion the movie sucks, a lot. I couldn't decide after my first watching if was the worst, or best movie I've watched in a while. After the second time, I decided it was awesome. I like to think of it as the Army of Darkness to films like Donny Darko, maybe not as funny, but still awesome.

IT's a 15 over here, and it isn't actually that great a movie. At several points I found myself thinking about how much quicker it would be if the GSG cyborgs were there
REALY ?! Ohhh... But Heath Ledger... wasn´t he good or was it the story?

the new stuff that is printed (anything after 2001) is garishly boring. try yo get your hands on the old stuff... I recommend the Original Xmen # 99 (impossible to get) to 200. After 250, it just gets stupid.TTIO wrote:Ah, well that's because I don't really like Batman. Or any American comics for that matter (of those that I've read).
Just a boring idea, imo.
In fact, it got stupid after 175... but there are a few good spins in it.
Loved Xmen 141 & 142... Days of Future Past.

I think that's a generalization, Elfen - quite a few of the recent Dini-penned Batman issues were quite good. And if you recommend that he go for the old stuff, just make sure he doesn't go any further back than the Denny O'Neil era.ElfenMagix wrote:the new stuff that is printed (anything after 2001) is garishly boring. try yo get your hands on the old stuff...

I don't care much for most of the DC or Marvel series out. However, I have found a few American series that I think are pretty interesting:
a) Fables (by Bill Willingham). At least 75 issues out, collected into 11 volumes so far. Fairy tale characters in our modern world.
b) Powers (by Brian Michael Bendis & Michael Avon Oeming). At least 30 issues out, collected into 11 volumes so far. Detectives who deal with crimes involving super-power heroes & villains.
c) The Adventures of Barry Ween (by Judd Winick). 12 issues were done, collected into 4 volumes. Comical adventures of a boy super-genius living in a mundane world.
d) PS238 (by Aaron Williams). At least 32 issues out, collected into 5 volumes so far. A public school for kids with super-powers.
e) Wormwood, Gentleman Corpse (by Ben Templesmith (not American, but he lives in the US). Was part of a magazine that folded. Currently available in 3 volumes. Comedy & horror together in occasionally amazing drawings.
f) Occasional one-shot comics like Fell (by Ben Templesmith & Warren Ellis). Supposed to be a series, only 1 volume was ever released. Another one is Coward (by Ed Brubaker & Sean Phillips).
wikipedia has articles on these series if you want to read more about them. There may be age-restrictions on purchasing most of these (except PS238).

a) sounds interesting...
b) and c) have been done to death
d) sounds boring too (superpower stories generally are imo)
e) might be ok...

"b) and c) have been done to death". I don't think that anyone has done the boy genius thing as well as Barry Ween. Incredibly funny at times. I wish Judd Winick would do more of them. I'd be interested in knowing about other series that are similar to Powers.
"d) sounds boring too" The interesting thing about PS238 lies not just in the powers that the kids have but the situations that the kids end up in. YMMV, though.
Nachtsider wrote:Fables is easily the best of the lot. Read it.
I agree with that -- Fables is the best of the group (not necessarily including the Jack of Fables offshoot -- a little bit of Jack goes a long ways).

Tonight, I watched Wicked City. I picked up a copy of it because it was one of the top-rated films in Jerry Beck's "The Animated Movie Guide" (and I have really enjoyed 18 other top-rated films listed in his book). What a major disappoint it was: cheesy dialogue and mediocre-to-bad animation with a heavy soft-porn element (done in a juvenile sort of way). It'll take me awhile to purge that movie from my brain!

I´ve got a question: Do you like the Harry Potter films?
I like the 1st and the 2nd but after these two I think they´re going to be bad...
Because the storyline from the book is totally different....I don´t like them much... and the first two were so great...

Sorry Triela! If you haven´t watched the movie yet don´t read the Spoiler (Burn after reading)
- Spoiler:
- Well as I said yesterday I was in "Burn after reading" today.
The start was nice but when Chad (alias Brad Pitt) died it turned out to be strange...I didn´t get the ending and my best friend and I realized that Chad was dead just a few minutes before the ending( he was shot in the middle of the film)..............we thought it was a flashback or something....
But we had to laugh so hard when Chad said in this deep voice "Osbourne Cox?" It was so great!!! Well...after he died it wasn´t so great anymore...I guess I´m a Brad Pitt fan
Still I think it´s worth to watch it

Less than half an hour ago, I heard some terrible news for the Film industry. There is going to be a High School Musical 3
I would honestly wonder how on earth they manage to make money out of those films, if I wasn't just three or so years ahead of being part of the craze (as in, if I were 12 I might like these things. Fortunetly, I'm not.).

Well, I can say I am dissapointed with Disney. They should've just create donald duck cartoons for good laughs! I miss those old times...
High School Musical is utter crap. Its GAY!! I mean, I'm in high school and we don't do such stupid dances right in the middle of nowhere.
Kinda' reminds me of Mamamia which I also think is a movie for the age of 40++
Disney is starting to draft towards the 'EA Policy'. If its something 'popular', kep it up. The more we make the more money we have.
Seriously, I was rather dissapointed with Mercenaries 2: World in Flames (although I love the fact that you can drive the M1A2 Abrams almost every hour and purchase the YAH-56 Gunship). First they change the cool realistic names, then they cut the faction missions, forcing you to rely on small-time jobs. Then they put up wimpy factions with almost near-identical vehicle as the North Koreans in the first game.
The Guerilla, especially. I mean, only TWO MAIN MISSIONS WITH THEM??? Might as well ruin the faction atitude towards them and obliterate them. Might as well send a carpet bomber to wipe the entire PLAV base.
There's also one area...I wish there were more like the 1st game.

And I imagine any kid gullible enough to think high school is really how High School Musical portrays it will get trounced once they get there, what with the peer pressure with sex, drugs, and stupid moments high school often puts us through.

I would honestly wonder how on earth they manage to make money out of those films, if I wasn't just three or so years ahead of being part of the craze (as in, if I were 12 I might like these things. Fortunetly, I'm not.).
You jut heard about it? There have been TONS of posters around where I live. It's sickening! Dumb little kids don't know anything. High School Musical is utter trash.
HSM, The Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana and the Twilight vampire series (not disney) all rely on one thing to make money

Well you can say that about a lot of things, like Pirates of the Caribbean (Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp, what girl wouldn't like it) or Star Wars (mostly fanboys ;_. Of corse the fans are what pull things through.
The things you listed are mostly geared towards little kids because they know little brats will buy everything in sight about them. (Twilight is different I think, it's not that bad) At this point Disney is after money and if they keep pushing "music bands" like the Jonas Brothers (Haha that name makes me vomit) I think they'll be around for a long time. >_<

Re: Films Everything
It´s in our cinemas at thursday and half of the class is going to see it....(HSM3)
Most of thhem (the girls in my class) love Zac Afron and the Jonas Brothers...I hate them....Zac Afron is stupid and the Jonas Brothers sounds gay...they can´t really...sing
(My sisters best friend is a BIG fan of all this stuff and she showed me a video were Joe Jonas is singing unplugged....sounds stupid)
altough that I like Hannah Montana..I´m not a real fan but I have nothing against it...
Guess Im not that kind of girlwho likes this stuf....Till3 weeks ago I didn´t even know who Dr.Somer was...it was a terrible day...
Twilight is okay I think...My sis, my best friend and a few other friends are reading it currently...they want me to do the same but I guess I have to finish Anna Karenina first

The thing is, Disney is slowly starting to drift off towards something that rely heavily on teen idol. I am very much disappointed with Disney.
Heck, I bet if Walt Disney's still alive he'd think so too.

Isn't that the definition of a Japanese idol?

That gives one an idea.
*a cryogenic chamber opens up.*
Disney: God, that was a good nap. I wonder how my vision with the company has turned out.
*arrives at Walt Disney Company and sees all that has happened. Pissed Disney storms into the company doors.*
Secretary: Sir, you can't enter without an appoint... Oh crap, he's up. *talks through an intercom* Mr. CEO, we've got a problem.
*Walt grabs the intercom.*
Walt: YOU BASTARDIZE MY COMPANY, I'LL GIVE YOU HELL! CHERNABOG!!
*The sky turns pitch black as thunder clouds start bellowing. Suddenly, the giant demon from Night on Bald Mountain rises out of the ground smashing floor after floor as his tall stature rises up. Upon seeing the top floor, he sees a scared CEO wetting himself on the top floor scared out of his mind. The Night on Bald Mountain theme music plays with Chernabog's presence.*
CEO: *timidly talks* Buuuuttttttt.... think of the profits.
*Chernabog smiles at the scared CEO and shakes his head in disapproval. He then breathes out a large blast of flame from his mouth and the CEO is incinerated in the blast.*
Disney: Company's mine again. Now what to get rid of... crappy live-action originals... bands and singers profiting off the company... direct-to-video sequels.... Chernabog, take care of all this for me.
*Chernabog nods in agreement and flies off.*
Disney: Now the profit stooges will know real hell for skewering my image.

Yeah, but you're in the US. They nearly always release stuff over there well before here
I saw the advert on TV, I was just hoping that it wasn't going to be HSM 3, but it was
