I would honestly wonder how on earth they manage to make money out of those films, if I wasn't just three or so years ahead of being part of the craze (as in, if I were 12 I might like these things. Fortunetly, I'm not.).
You jut heard about it? There have been TONS of posters around where I live. It's sickening! Dumb little kids don't know anything. High School Musical is utter trash.
HSM, The Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana and the Twilight vampire series (not disney) all rely on one thing to make money
Stupid fan girls that will live, kill and die for their ship
Well you can say that about a lot of things, like Pirates of the Caribbean (Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp, what girl wouldn't like it) or Star Wars (mostly fanboys ;_. Of corse the fans are what pull things through.
The things you listed are mostly geared towards little kids because they know little brats will buy everything in sight about them. (Twilight is different I think, it's not that bad) At this point Disney is after money and if they keep pushing "music bands" like the Jonas Brothers (Haha that name makes me vomit) I think they'll be around for a long time. >_<

Re: Films Everything
It´s in our cinemas at thursday and half of the class is going to see it....(HSM3)
Most of thhem (the girls in my class) love Zac Afron and the Jonas Brothers...I hate them....Zac Afron is stupid and the Jonas Brothers sounds gay...they can´t really...sing
(My sisters best friend is a BIG fan of all this stuff and she showed me a video were Joe Jonas is singing unplugged....sounds stupid)
altough that I like Hannah Montana..I´m not a real fan but I have nothing against it...
Guess Im not that kind of girlwho likes this stuf....Till3 weeks ago I didn´t even know who Dr.Somer was...it was a terrible day...
Twilight is okay I think...My sis, my best friend and a few other friends are reading it currently...they want me to do the same but I guess I have to finish Anna Karenina first

The thing is, Disney is slowly starting to drift off towards something that rely heavily on teen idol. I am very much disappointed with Disney.
Heck, I bet if Walt Disney's still alive he'd think so too.

That gives one an idea.
*a cryogenic chamber opens up.*
Disney: God, that was a good nap. I wonder how my vision with the company has turned out.
*arrives at Walt Disney Company and sees all that has happened. Pissed Disney storms into the company doors.*
Secretary: Sir, you can't enter without an appoint... Oh crap, he's up. *talks through an intercom* Mr. CEO, we've got a problem.
*Walt grabs the intercom.*
Walt: YOU BASTARDIZE MY COMPANY, I'LL GIVE YOU HELL! CHERNABOG!!
*The sky turns pitch black as thunder clouds start bellowing. Suddenly, the giant demon from Night on Bald Mountain rises out of the ground smashing floor after floor as his tall stature rises up. Upon seeing the top floor, he sees a scared CEO wetting himself on the top floor scared out of his mind. The Night on Bald Mountain theme music plays with Chernabog's presence.*
CEO: *timidly talks* Buuuuttttttt.... think of the profits.
*Chernabog smiles at the scared CEO and shakes his head in disapproval. He then breathes out a large blast of flame from his mouth and the CEO is incinerated in the blast.*
Disney: Company's mine again. Now what to get rid of... crappy live-action originals... bands and singers profiting off the company... direct-to-video sequels.... Chernabog, take care of all this for me.
*Chernabog nods in agreement and flies off.*
Disney: Now the profit stooges will know real hell for skewering my image.

Re: Films Everything
Disney is creating a whimsical world for the poor fan girls where everything will be one big happy ending. That plus they enjoy making the girls drool over Zac Efron and Joe Jonas (just look at my sister's room, she can "convince" people that Joe Jonas is her boyfriend).
As for Twilight, i decided to venture a peek at the last book a while ago and here's the one sentence i read before closing the book in disgust.
"I saw Edward's reflection, the perfect image of his perfect face."
ps: Edward is a vampire, what the hell is with the reflection

it's not the vampires that bothers me though, it wat came after that in the sentence i posted, the whole frigin series does nothing but describe how perfect they find each other! so anyway, the new Bond movie has a foot chase/action scene set to the last scene of Tosca at the outdoor theater in Bregenz, Austria.
And it's totally epic. Not a bad flick all around, though I do prefer a slightly more cerebral Bond... this one is still really fun.

I heard that Daniel won´t say "My name is Bond, James Bond" and that stuff so I´m a bit skeptical....
I think Pierce Brosnan was the best Bond (from what I watched already) and I also liked Sean Connery.... I personally don´t like Daniel Craig so I didn´t watched Casino Royal either...

I liked the new Bond. I didn't think the plot was that bad, and it's more a character driven story then a plot driven one this time around anyhow.
Surprisingly, the big area where I felt that film could have used some improvement was in its action scenes. While it didn't seem as bad later in the film, the early action scenes in particular had really choppy editting. Rapid fire cuts can be effective, but it was used excessively there, to the point where it was extremely difficult to follow some scenes (plus, when you have something as spectacular as that opening car chase, shouldn't you actually give the viewer time to see how spectacular it is?).

almost everyone I've talked to who 'hates the new Bond' didn't watch Casino Royale.
try not to judge the book by its cover. This isn't the old Bond, that's for sure. The story is driven more by character development, the action is less stylish (waaay less gadgety) and more gritty... but I think we're seeing the transformation of a particularly gifted secret service agent into the cold but good-hearted womanizer that is the Bond we all know and love from previous movies (essentially writing a completely new canon for the series)

Re: Films Everything
Personally, I think they may be reintroducing some of the more traditional Bond elements in the coming films. A lot of people seem to want them, and -whether intentionally or unintentionally- the ending of Quantum of Solace seems to allow them to do that. A big part of the movie is Bond getting over what happened in Casino Royale (at least that's my perspective).
That being said, don't expect Craig's Bond to become high camp. I wouldn't be surprised to see more humour and traditional Bond elements next time around, but this has not been a campy interpretation of Bond thus far.
I think the best thing to hope for for Craig's third Bond film would be for something with a little more of the traditional Bond elements combined with a smarter then is usual for Bond script.

I just watched Casino Royale and I must say, I enjoyed it. Sure it was a bit odd not seeing Pierce Brosnan as he was my generation definitive 'Bond'. However, I have to admit that seeing Daniel Craig's portrayal of Bond really puts down the image of a young and inexperienced agent.

I didn't mind Quantum of Solace and I definitely liked Casino Royale, but the Daniel Craig movies (especially QoS) feel like they're missing a bit of something. Like others have said before me, I'm sure they're just working their way up from humble beginnings to more like the Bond we used to know, albeit a bit more gritty.
That said, Quantum of Solace seemed a lot like the Bourne series of movies with Matt Damon. The action cuts, the frenzied camera, etc. That's not to say it's a bad thing, I enjoyed the Bourne movies. But it's just not what I'm used to. Call me old fashioned, but I kinda enjoyed seeing what fun little toys Q would end up handing over to Bond to destroy. (I want more one-liners! ) Plus, the Bourne movies made truckloads of cash, so I can understand why they might want to emulate them.
Regardless, I'm looking forward to the next Bond film.

I honestly thought that Casino Royal was in many ways the perfect bond film. Now I like Q gadgets, and Golden Eye was a good film. Still Casino really seemed like it acknowledged Bond film legacy while distilling it down to a basic essence, and then modernizing that. It through out a lot of the tired formulaic bond aspect, for which I could not be more pleased.. Quantum of Solace was a decent action film, but didn't really make me thing of James Bond. Which was terribly disappointing.
I had an interesting reaction though in the beginning of Quantum of Solace when Bond is running on he roofs. I kept noticing the bell tower in the background, and couldn't help but think Henrietta was there; watching, and choosing who would live, and who would die.
That would make a fairly cool Bond film don't you think? If Section two where really a tool of Solace. Bond squaring off against Italian intelligence, and they cyborg tots.

Re: Films Everything
That would make a fairly cool Bond film don't
you think? If Section two where really a tool of Solace. Bond squaring
off against Italian intelligence, and they cyborg tots.
Oh, and get one of them to sleep with him like he used to? Suddenly James Bond changes his name to 'Pedo Bear*cough*Bond".
Or he could go:
"Kids...?"
"Yeah. Armed to the teeth." *bang*

Re: Films Everything
It would make much more sense for him to sleep with Priscilla, Ferro, Olga [ehhh...], the creepy medical twins, as yet uncreated female staff, and Italian Intelligence women before he gets anywhere near Henrietta, and the other cyborgs....
But no, we must always go strait to the Pedo Bear stuff don't we...

I still think the creepy medical twins are just a figment of Duvalier's imagination.

A bedroom scene with James Bond and the creepy twins? Now there’s something I would buy a ticket to see.Wileama wrote:It would make much more sense for him to sleep with Priscilla, Ferro, Olga [ehhh...], the creepy medical twins...

Re: Films Everything
Daniel Craig is a great bond. He is way more true to the original Ian Flemmings character then any of the previous, maybe not in appearence but definately from a psychological point of view.
I kept comparing both Casino Royale and QoS to GsG after i watched them most recently, even though they are very different plot/character wise they are slightly similar in Style and Setting.

Re: Films Everything
I should probably give them another chance. I was used to the "big boom Bond" films, but they started to grow tiresome, even with as solid an actor as Brosnan in the lead. So I likely didn't give Casino Royale a fair shake since it was not a "big boom Bond" film and it had a new actor in the main role.

Daniel Craig is a pretty good bond. I grew up watching Brosnan do Bond, but I think I'm liking the new direction for Bond movies. I'm looking forward to Daniel Craig's upcoming movie, "Defiance". Has anyone seen Valkyrie?

I shudder to think what Hollywood is going to present compared with what really happened (at least in terms of the motivation of the plotters), so I will be sure to miss it.

Re: Films Everything
My problem with the movie was the inability to draw me in. I felt Tom Cruise (even though he supposedly looks identical to the man, haven't seen a side by side) did not fit the role (or could've acted better). During the most suspenseful scene where he is waiting for operation Valkyrie to end, I did not feel a thing. The ending though was dramatic so I'd recommend a watch. I am happy though that some of the people who tried to cut Hitler's reign short were honored.Kiskaloo wrote:PastaKing wrote:Has anyone seen Valkrie?

While I like Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, Tim Dalton's Bond is my favorite - it's a shame they only made him stay for two films.
I'm going to watch 'The Spirit' tomorrow with my wife.

Re: Films Everything
on a completely different note, I just watched a sort of off-beat coming-of-age film called The Wackness (there's a reason the title's in green )... as much as it rambled, I found it touching... and as much as I could predict the ending, I still found it fairly awesome, for a movie with basically no violence in it.
as for action movies... Wanted and Death Race were kinda fun, but my knowledge of physics made me recoil in horror from both at times... especially Wanted.
