Elfen Lied Syndrome
There are a number of anime series that were started before the manga finished, and therefore ended abruptly when the animators ran out of material. Many of these were never continued and finished adequately. Here are a few series that I would like to see continued:
Elfen Lied
Gunslinger Girl - animated version of the Dante story arc would be awesome. Although there might be some issues with the whether Petra should be included in the anime, or, for that matter, perhaps and anime featuring Pia and Ernesto.
Zipang- A hidden gem of anime about a JSDF destroyer that is sent back in time to just prior to the Battle of Midway and the struggles of the crew with surviving in the past and with the potential implications of changing history, and in trying to find a way back to their own time.
Kara no Kyoukai: Mirai Fukuin: Not true Elfen Lied Syndrome, but rather the simple issue of the lack of an animated version of a manga/light novel featuring Shiki and Mikiya's daughter Mana. This needs an anime... no, Mana needs her own series! But that would mean Nasu would have to stop milking the Fate franchise.

Still no match for moving pictures, right, Tri? Case in point: the Coyote Ragtime Show manga, as compared to its amazing animated counterpart, was a flaming pile of poorly drawn shit.

They're making OVAs, yes, but I don't know if they are a direct continuation of where the TV series left off.

Re: Elfen Lied Syndrome
The OVA "Ultimate" series is a ground-up remake that follows the manga pretty much exactly. It certainly benefits from a fresh lick of paint, and while K.T. Gray still mumbles each and every line like an introverted eight year-old the English dub is excellent.

The Hellsing OVAs are fan-TABULOUS; if only they would get released in English sooner.

Re: Elfen Lied Syndrome
I would go far back and dare add Lovely Angels/Dirty Pair. 2 books (written, not Manga) 3 movies then a TV Series and a bunch of snippets of OVA because the artist died before he could finish the works.
Dirty Pair Flash is just a cheap remake of the series done though somebody else's eyes.

there are loads of anime that started before the manga finished, the first series of FMA,Negima!,Bleach, which is still on going in both formats which leads to weeks or months of filler arcs in the anime

Yu Yu Hakusho is another. That's probably why it was so horrible, cuz he rushed it. -_-

Yup. Last season did NOT happen. In fact in my mind it ended with the Dark Tournament. :/

Re: Elfen Lied Syndrome
There are plenty of examples I could think of for anime that end before their manga source material ends:
-Love Hina- Anime leaves out quite a bit of development on prominent characters and events within the manga, ended before the final two volumes of the manga series.
-Ai Yori Aoshi- The two seasons of the series only cover events from the first half of the manga.
-Rurouni Kenshin- The TV series ran into filler following the Kyoto Arc and never got to animating the Jinchuu arc as the series was canned a year before the manga series finally ended.
-Video Girl Ai- The OAV series only covers events from the first couple volumes of the manga.
-His and Her Circumstances- Only covers events from the first 8 volumes of the manga as it was still ongoing at the time the TV series aired.
-Hana Yori Dango- Manga series ran for another six years following the finale of the TV anime.
-Great Teacher Onizuka
-Fruits Basket- Only covers events and a couple side-stories from the manga's first eight volumes as the series was still ongoing.
-Ouran High School Host Club
-Loveless
-Nana
-Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad
-Kurenai
-Hajime no Ippo
-Descendants of Darkness
-Minami-ke- Manga's still ongoing after the three prior anime seasons.
-Berserk- The manga's still ongoing to this day long after the 1997-1998 TV anime adaptation of the series.
-School Rumble- A unique circumstance for this series in the fact it skips through all the events that occurred in the manga between the second season TV series and the third season OAV.
-Suzuka
-Spiral- The anime never goes into detail on the nature of the Blade Children as it instead goes into an anime-only plotline for its second half as the manga series pressed on following the anime's completion.
-Black Lagoon- After three seasons (even with Roberta's Blood Trail), the manga will still be running.
-Narutaru- Only covers the first six volumes before the much more depressing second half gets a chance to rear its ugly head.
-Dance in the Vampire Bund- The anime covered just about all the major plot arcs of the manga that were out at the time the series aired.
-Arakawa Under the Bridge
-Bokura ga Ita
-Mokke
-The World God Only Knows
-Shiki
-Kuragehime
-Aoi Hana
-Claymore
-Bakuman

Comments : To those who don't know me, I've been a Cyborg Central member since 2008 and used to assist in scanlating chapters for the Gunslinger Girl manga when it was still being published in Japan. Now, I just tend to drift around in here now and then depending on whatever random impulse implores me to float back in here. Maybe I'll stick around, maybe I won't. Depends on what real life and the Internet implore me to do.
