Howdy, I'm a pilot!

Well, I'm a student pilot; I'm waiting for my 17th birthday to test for my PPC (Private Pilot's Certificate). Other than that, I'm your run-of-the-mill AFJROTC Cadet that happens to be proficient with the viola in his Orchestra. I also play the violin and piano to a lesser extent.

Welcome to the forum mate... good luck with the license. It's something I always wanted to do but... well I did a few hours with the AAFC (Australian Air Force Cadets) but never had the money to take it further. Now I have the money, but not the time... catch 22

So, which side do you come down on: Cessna or Traumahawk?

Ah, it's the age-old question; high wing or low wing. Personally though, I'm getting my primary training and hours in the Chezch Sportcruiser, though I do spend some time to familiarize with a high wing in a Remos GX. To answer your question; I've never been too much of a fan of the Cessna because you see just too many of them around. However, all I require is a plane with good enough range to take me 140NM from my local airport to the Bahamas. I haven't spent time in a Tomahawk so I wouldn't be familiar with it's spin characteristics. So I'll have to unfortunately go with a platform that I'm somewhat used to and say Cessna for it's reliability.

Traumahawk... spin. General rule of thumb is: don't, they don't respond well to being spun and tend to break.

That said, the few hours I've done were on the Tomahawk, and it was always a point of contention between myself and another mate who was learning on 152s. Honestly though I think I just kept arguing simply to wind him up.

You're quite lucky, I live near an reputable air museum and had lots of chances to meet Col. Bud Anderson, the WASPs, and Tuskegee airmen. I've been unfortunate enough that I couldn't make any of the trips due to schedule conflicts. Maybe next year.
