You know what would be even more awesome then Gunslinger Girl Zombies? Gunslinger Girl Zombies doing the Thriller dance. There is the dangerous of course such an event would by so awesome as to be unstable, threatening to decay to another element. Thus releasing a massive amount of energy in the process...

Re: Zombie plan
Best weapons in my opinions were:
-Molotov's Cocktail (breadbasket's too big)
-Flame Throwers
-Home made flame throwers
-Grenades
-M249 SAW
Anything that can do area effect, use it. Zombies comes in mobs--lots of them. A .30 Cal, .50 Cal, armor piercing weapons, or area effect weapons are good! Just don't get too close...
But I doubt Henrietta would bite Jose's neck...it'll go like:
Jose: H-Henrietta! No!!!
Henrietta (mouth agape to Jose's neck): ...........*runs away crying*
Jose: ??? (relieved)
Henrietta: (zombie talk) Hueee....I can't bite Jose! I can't bite Jose! I love Jose! I can't bite Jose!
Triela: (zombie talk) ...But you know? Jose had *** with Ferro last night...
Henrietta: (zombie talk) !!! JOSE!!!!!!!!! I'LL RIP YOU APART!!
...and they somehow reminds me of zombies from Doom...they wield guns

Re: Zombie plan
With all respect, AP rounds won't do all that good against zombies, unless they were wearing Armor prior to being turned into a zombie.
seeing as AP Rounds have a tendency to rip clean through unarmored targets, its better to use a hollow point round, seeing as they do more damage when they hit.
Say, I know that there are .50 caliber JHP rounds for pistols, but I wonder if they are around for Machine guns as well. Does anyone know?

Oooh yes! I forgot to mention this!
One weapon I'll take IF I ever landed in Raccoon City during the mass zombie raid and Bio-weapons running lose with Gunslinger Girl zombies all around is no other than...
...the M1A1 Thompson...really? That's suicide.
I'll take the M134A1 Vulcan--modified with armor-piercing round to punch the heads of 3-4 zombies with one; save the bullet. 1 bullet for 5 zombies...veeeery deadly and efficient
...this is also one airsoft I'd LOVE to get my hands on. Gratitude to the Austrians who displayed the magnificent fire power of the gun
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DMOn53UCRk&NR=1
...don't mind their sillyness...they might look rather 'dumb' at some point, but with those guns--especially THAT M134A1, I'd gladly call up my club and get together with them in an airsoft match!

Re: Zombie plan
there's a reason these...
...are fired from a weapon mount. And AP rounds from that thing would punch through more than just 3-4 zombie heads. If you could even hit 'em in the head with that. The point of a minigun is the sheer volume of ammunition it can dispense... not a good choice if your supplies are limited.
oh, and that burst of less than six seconds was 400 rounds.

Re: Zombie plan
Well during the year I ended up doing some of the things that the zombie survival guide said (cause I was bored).\
Heres some reviews for some of the weapons I tested (notice I didn’t do guns because everyone knows a zombie dies if you shoot at it).
Katana-I tried the easiest to get store bought katana I could get in order to test its strength a swung it down on a log multiple times it held out for 300 swings before the blade became noticeably dulled a lot then on the 500th swing the sword snapped in half and almost stabbed me in the arm.
The kabana’s durability was a problem for me so I decided to craft a better sword for killing zombies the design I chose for it was the sakabato(reversed blade sword).
I picked up some quarter inch steel. Premade steel has much more integrity that anything I forged from old steel I made the sword full tang sharpened up the backside and made the tip pointy the result was a very solid sword.
Since a sakabato has no blade on the side that you hit stuff with it will not dull. The flat edge of the sword crushes through the skull and saves you the trouble of getting too stuck in the skull. Of course I could still turn the blade over and behead a zombie.
Sakabato-perfect for me solid won’t break or become useless from dulling
A full-size sword will not work in doors so I decided to get a mid sized sword my first choice was the machete. I picked one up and I wasn’t too enthused with it machetes aren’t really all that sharp they are made for cutting leaves and small branches which doesn’t need much blade. The shape of the blade increases speed so it can come down on a zombie head faster.
I decided to get something better I went back to my ancestry and broke out my bolohttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolo_knife a bolo is the sword of the Philippines it was originally made for the same thing as the machete but it has a couple things going for it that I like better. The bolo is made with a wider tip this moves the center of gravity towards the tip and allows for faster swings the bolo is also used for breaking open coconuts so it will break through a skull. Bolos were once made for killing people in war and are still used by the Filipino army today the bolo has a full tang and is very solid.
Bolo-will it blend? Yes
Knives- I decided to test knives that were found around the house instead of knives that are made for killing cause really how many ordinary people have a trench spike (me).
-for a test I stabbed them into a piece of sheet metal with wood behind it (the wood was one of those crappy doors)
Folding knives-I stabbed a very common looking hunting knife into the target I stabbed it hard as if my life depended on it multiple times around the tenth stab the blade became separated from the handle. In close combat with a zombie folding knives are made of fail.
Kitchen knife- by far the best contender the non serrated full tang kitchen knife fared best with the target but one brand excelled above my other crappy ones and that brand was Cutco the knife didn’t dull didn’t chip didn’t break and after the testing it still made my dinner. So when in doubt steal your rich neighbor’s expensive Cutco knives.
*Balisong(butterfly knife) - normal balisongs in particular are pretty useless if you don’t know how to use them so I had to review a balisong I made in order for it to be a viable choice you must be skilled with a balisong I can open my balisong and stab at an eye socket in a split second. But when that is not fast enough another option appears. Something about my balisong that is very different from others is that I made it in such a way that the handles weigh 5 pounds so I can flip the knife open hitting a zombie in the face with the hand potentially bludgeoning it while opening it at the same time then finish it off with a good eye stab.
Higurashi hatchet-(if you have watched higurashi no naku koro ni then it’s the hatchet that Rena has) I tested this one for fun. sadly I couldn’t find a real higurashi hatchet at any store so I had to make my own some steel and some plywood handles later I had my very own higurashi hatchet.
The hook of this hatchet gives it weight right at the tip of the blade which makes the swing much faster but the sharp point of the hook itself penetrates like a hot knife through butter. The only problem is it can be hard to pull the axe back out.
So in terms of practicality no but I would still carry it just cause it looks cool.
If zombies suddenly appeared I would go out and deanimate them riding around on a sissy girls bike that’s covered in blood my mission statement would be: by killing these I gain the leftover life. But if I see a building like a mall lets say that’s full of zombies I am ramming a commercial jet into that remotely. The guide says to eliminate unnecessary risks a commercial jet is just one way of doing it.
Long post is long.

Re: Zombie plan
Bumped for a potentially interesting/popular survey.
Suppose now you're caught in a zombie survival situation. Tell us the details, as dictated by the format below:
1. Your primary weapon (one only)
2. Your secondary weapon (one only)
3. Your melee weapon (one only)
4. The location
5. Your companion(s) (three, tops)
6. Your vehicle (one only)
7. The background music
I'll start:
1. Franchi SPAS-15
2. Glock 17
3. Crowbar
4. My neighborhood
5. My wife and kids
6. A Humvee
7. Yakety Sax by Benny Hill
Go go go.

Re: Zombie plan
1. Your primary weapon (one only)
Ar-15. It's popular for sport shooting now, so parts are easy to find and the military uses the same ammo.
2. Your secondary weapon (one only)
1911. Like above, parts everywhere. Military doesn't use it anymore, but where there are 9mm, there are .45s
3. Your melee weapon (one only)
Machete. Tough as nails and doesn't require much sharpening. Can also be used as a tool.
4. The location
??? You want me to specify a location where I'd bunker up, or where I'd like to play out this type of situation?
I'd use a grocery store or some warehouse with plenty of supplies to last a few months as my fort.
If I had a choice, I'd choose Long beach, of course. I know the city like the back of my hand.
5. Your companion(s) (three, tops)
My older brother, my Corpsman uncle (for obvious reasons), and my dad.
6. Your vehicle (one only)
Gotta be my 4Runner. Toyota = Decent mileage and easy maintenance.
7. The background music
The Eagles discography.

1. Your primary weapon (one only)
M14 (you'd be surprised how many we have left around here... and how common .308 is)
2. Your secondary weapon (one only)
GLOCK 21 (for obvious reasons)
3. Your melee weapon (one only)
dude... one?! that's totally unrealistic for me. But okay. A kodachi made of grade 4 titanium alloy.
-if that's unavailable, my heron-mark.
4. The location
'round here, I'd imagine. I'd probably hole up in the fallout shelter under the armory I work at, if I could get there (more MREs and water down there than I could consume in a decade)
5. Your companion(s) (three, tops)
My brother, a friend I've known forever who's an ex-15T (and current UFC fighter), another friend I've known forever who owns more revolvers than I own swords.
also, we'd probably wind up picking up a shitload of survivors and bringing 'em to the shelter... but those are my preferred brothers-in-arms for anti-zombie combat.
6. Your vehicle (one only)
Ideally an up-armored HMMWV (M1151)... but we'd probably end up modifying my '68 chevy van for combat.
7. The background music
We'd probably wind up playing a lot of AC/DC.

1. Saiga 12 (Semi Auto magazine holding Shotgun, Shotguns are the best for zombies, but pump actions dont really have a high refire rate, and having to jam each round in is dead slow, hence the magazine fed shutgun for me)

Re: Zombie plan
1. Flame thrower
Although ammunition is scarce, I think this is something you would like to hold when a horde of zombies came rushing at you--burn them all! Smell that? That's gasoline...smells like victory! If that runs out, time to turn to Molotov Cocktail (Torch them up and fall back to a safe distance. Watch them fry as the fire toast their brains to annihilation before they all collapse like dominos! A sight I'd love to see)
2. M1911A1
Save the flame thrower when you're facing a horde of them. When you're up against 2-4, draw the .45 and blast a hole in their head! Send them far-far away!
3. Fire Axe
Anything that's salvageable is ok. When they came close, slash their heads off with the axe to make sure they don't come back to hunt you.
4. Anywhere but not around Tokyo; a bunker filled with survivalist, to be sure.
If Tokyo is infected, you DO NOT WANT to go to the streets and face a horde of zombies rushing at you. In a bunker is fine--especially if there's enough food and supplies and there's only one way in and out. Torch them in the entrance and keep them away.
5. My friends from the airsoft club (Yoshio-san, Ono-san and Ai-san)
I'll take the three fiercest guys (and gal) in the club and equip them with something long-range lethal--Ono with the MG, Yoshio with a scoped rifle, and Ai with an Assault Rifle. Then each should at least carry a medkit just in case...
6. SdKfZ 251. Flammwagen
Run through the blockade of zombies in high speed while torching them to their annihilation while picking up survivors and carry them to safety. Watch the zombies running after you (or dragging themselves after you) in flames before they all collapse with their brains toasted to annihilation. Once we're out to safety, we can ditch it and pick a ride. But if that's unavailable, and we're on a military base, I say an M113 APC with the auto-turret mount. If that's unavailable too, a police car with a good siren and a good bumper would do.
7. Barry's 'Eve of Destruction'
Nothing came close when zombies are around trying to horde you than that song...
I don't know why, but these days I'm having the vibe with flame-weapons after watching CoD: World at War. In reality, our carbon-based structure--dead or alive--couldn't stand fire for too long. Its actually quite nice to see them burn. Slowly falling apart piece by piece before collapsing and...well, there you have it. In zombie survivability, I'll be using some science to back things up and am not referencing from video games. Who would?
Heh, wish video games have something like this in common. Things going on in the video game about zombies aren't that realistic...
Re: Zombie plan
1) Crossbow. Yeah that's right, I want a cross bow. Why? The twang of a bowstring may make some sound, but it's a lot more quite then a gun. Important if you want to avoid attracting every zombie this side of the Mississippi. Sure I could get a silenced gun, and sub sonic ammo. However arrows are easier to make then bullets. That, and there aren't as many legal issues. Who wants to have their silencer confiscated the day before the zombie apocalypses?
2) M4, because when the shit hits the fan, I will want a gun. You know what makes the M-16 a great weapon? First accuracy, important for those head shots. That, and Ideally you would be carrying a couple extra upper receivers, and transform the my 5.56mm weapon into a 9mm weapon. Good when you can't be sure what ammo you'll find. Get a long barrel set up for that long range shot, then slap on the short barrel for clearing that warehouse.
3) Crowbar. Titanium of course to cut down on weight, and help durability. Crushing the brain, will hopefully cut down on bodily fluids, thus reducing the risk of contamination. That, and when your not crushing brains you can be opening doors, lockers, and the like.
4) Kirtland AFB, 11th paragraph down. I don't know what it's like, but hopefully it puts LoCs fallout shelter to shame. That, and if the shit every really, and I mean really hits the fan you have fucking nukes. Not even one, or two, but what is likely a significant percentage of the US stockpile. That's a hell of a bang to go off on.
5) My best friend, who is currently in Oregon. He may be a hippy, but he's smart. I know he worries about the zombie threat himself. I also know he's joined the competitive shooting club. Finally I know I could get along with him for a damn long time if it came to that. His girlfriend. I don't know her very well, but if my buddy can get along with her I'm sure I can too. That, and it'll be important to for them to be able to 'relieve' tension. Finally Jessica Alba. Cause if my friend is going to be relieving tension, so do I. [I might not be the last man on earth, but I'm might well be the last living single man she'll ever see. Giggid Giggid Goo]
6) Electrically assisted mountain bike. Fuel isn't an issue. Either I recharge with solar cells, run an alternator set up, or I just make due without the assist. I can lug it on my back if I have to, and I'll be hard pressed to find terrain I can't cross with it. Finally, it wont make much sound to attract nearby zombies.
7) Always depends on what happening. However given the nature of events there will be at least one moment when I want Breathe, by Prodigy. Then again the irony of Apocalypse Please, by muse wouldn't be lost on me. Nor the excellent tunes of the song itself.

Suppose now you're caught in a zombie survival situation. Tell us the details, as dictated by the format below:
Just had to make this didn't you Nacht? You know I can't resist zombie themed...anything.
1. I'm somewhat torn on this one, but I have to agree with what Wil said earlier. A crossbow. It's quiet and you can pick one up in nearly any decent hunting goods store. Plus, if you're adventurous and lucky, you may be able to retrieve the bolts if need be. One thing concerns me however and that is the ability to fire off rapid shots, but I suppose you can partially offset that problem in the next category. Another reason why rapid fire isn't crucial - why would anyone risk actively hunting zombies, unless it was absolutely necessary? (No other way around them, need to find supplies, reclaiming the world, etc.)
2. If I'm taking a crossbow, it's got to be a semi-auto pistol. If I took a semi-auto rifle or a shotgun, then I suppose there's room for leeway. However, seeing as how I'm going old school, I'd like the piece of mind that if shit hit the fan, I could potentially fire off a string of rounds at multiple targets. I prefer USPs due to their magazine release function. I have somewhat small hands (damn genes) and depending on the pistol, I need to severely shift my grip to hit that damned button release on most pistols as opposed to just pressing down with my index finger to swap a magazine - purely a personal preference thing. Let's go with 9mm. It's easy to find, and more rounds per weight ratio.
3. Again so many choices, but I know at least one thing. It's got to be multifunction. I'm afraid I'm not in the group that perfers to use a katana. I'm going to have to go with a camping/survival hatchet (a machete is damned tempting too). It's simple, easily aquired, plus gives me a bit more reach than a standard knife. And if the blade grows dull, I can still smash in a head if need be.
4. Rural area. Lower populations, ability to cultivate land if long term survival was needed. If the land is flat and clear, ability to see zombies coming from a long way and plan accordingly.
5. I have a friend who's just as much of a zombie nut as I am, so he's in. Two more? I could be crass and say "Women, cause when everyone's an undead monster, we're gonna want women," so I will. Two women. I won't name names, cause I'm a gentleman, but if somehow we could recruit Samus Aran she's so in.
6. Tough, I'd normally chose something simple like a bicycle (sorry Wil, I sound like a broken record to you), I have to take into consideration that I've got three others with me. Can't fit four people on one bicycle (unless you'd use one of those tandem bikes, and if that is the case, you're obviously too unhinged to be part of my group.) So I'm going to have to go with a type of off-road vehicle, a real one, NOT an SUV that's pretending.
7. Anything that can lift my spirits cause, you know, the world's f*cked. I'm not particularly picky with music. If it sounds good, it sounds good.

Good deal. The thought of everyone in the group getting their own bike didn't even cross my mind. That's planning for ya, never end up covering all the bases.
From what everyone's said so far on this list, at least nobody has gone ridiculous .
Oh yeah, and continuing with LoC's zombie t-shirt picture:"ARGH!!! Two M60's, battle axe strapped to my back, and a codpiece made of C4! Let's go get some!"

Well dammit, I can never resist these things. So in the words of my voices, "Lemme see har!"
1: I gotta go with old faithful here, my Mossberg 590A1 20-gauge. Yes she kicks like a mother, but the action is so smooth I don't even notice half the time. Not to mention the ammo variety. Shot for groups and load slugs for bosses.
2: I'm looking at bang for the buck in this department. I choose an Heckler&Koch MP5K chambered in 9mm parabellum. Tried and true in the battlefields and urban sprawls of the world, this little baby will more than likely save my life more than once.
3: I'm going all function and no fashion. A fuggin' crowbar in the 32"(82 cm) variety or as we in the business call it, a 'Jimmy'. It hits hard, is hard to lose, and fits oh so easily in a belt loop. Remember kids; when battling zombies, headshots aren't the end all-beat all solution. Somtimes imobilization is just enough.
4: Anywhere, anytime, any strain. Lemme at 'em!
5: Jackie Chan, Rorshach, and MacGuyver. Three people who I know WILL NEVER say one of two fateful team-dooming phrases. "I'm out of ammo!" or "I lost my weapon!"
6: The Ash Williams Custom powered by Mr. Fusion. Steam power is so 19th century.
7: Anything by AC/DC!! Come to think of it, I don't remember there being any AC/DC in zombie film soundtracks.

Well technically it said only one vehicle, but I assumed that was for the person, not the group. But yeah planning is important. Boomer your choice of team mates is fucking perfect. So perfect I must know weep tears of joy. Yet my heart will remain full of sorrow knowing nothing can can match the splendor of what you have suggested.

Re: Zombie plan
looking at everyone's posts, and rereading my own (and having recently read the zombie survival guide)... I now realize that my answer to Nacht's question was set up as a search-and-destroy team with a secure home base to return to. If I were forced to go on the run through debris-ridden streets, my choices would be somewhat different.
as such:
1. Your primary weapon (one only)
Silenced Kriss SBR/SO. If I don't manage to acquire one before the zombie apocalypse, my Franchi AL-48 semiautomatic 12 gauge (in which case the primary and secondary status of my firearms would be reversed. My Franchi is loud).
2. Your secondary weapon (one only)
GLOCK 21.
3. Your melee weapon (one only)
A kodachi. Preferably one made of grade 4 titanium alloy. If that's unavailable, the one on my wall... which is about as strong as a stainless steel blade can be.
4. The location
We'd head for Fort Lewis, unless we knew it was overrun... in which case it'd be time to head for the hills... maybe the lodge on Mt. Hood.
5. Your companion(s) (three, tops)
in the unlikely event that I would have a choice:
My brother, a friend I've known forever who's an ex-15T (and current UFC fighter), another friend I've known forever who owns more revolvers than I own swords.
-After talking this over with my brother, he volunteered to be our .22LR man if this should ever happen. My Taurus Model 94 revolver, his semiauto Remington with its 16 round tube mag, and several thousand rounds in a backpack (he actually keeps a whole bunch of Crown Royal bags full of .22 rounds... about 500 each) would make him our best shoot-and-run-while-reloading option against overwhelming numbers... as he pointed out to me: "With a .22, just aim for the face. The skull is pretty open in the front. From the side it's a little harder, aim for the temple. From the back... hope for a lucky shot."
I'm not the marksman he is, hence my preference for hollow-point .45ACPs.
...this sorta begs a new questionnaire in which you outfit your entire team...
6. Your vehicle(one only)
a 5-ton truck (preferably an M925 or M928... I know how to obtain and operate such things) loaded with bicycles, backpacks, weapons and ammo (.308s, 12 gauges, .45s, .22LRs and melee weapons... including a 36" wrecking bar), fuel, equipment and provisions. If the truck couldn't make it out of the city, we'd try to commandeer another such vehicle on the trip north.
7. The background music
None. No unnecessary sounds until we're secure. We need to listen for that telltale zombie moan... not to mention keeping silent so as not to attract more of the damned things than necessary.
...if this is a movie idea, though... minimalist stuff, with appropriately dramatic stuff for combat.

Re: Zombie plan
lol ,if this was a movie you'd most likely get stuck with the captain of your highschool football team (think star trek red shirt !) who hates you ,his blond cheerleading girlfriend (also zombie fodder and magnet )and the quiet nerdy girl from your class ! (who will most likely be the only survivor)
assuming of course this is like most zombie films and you are all teens, though it works for adults as well except the male characters have less hair and the women plastic boobs !

Re: Zombie plan
reading back on Skippy's list, I found something pertinent:
Skippy wrote:Link
...in the event that your town is subject to a siege of shambling horrors that thirst for the still-warm flesh of the living, here are some handy tips.
1) Put 1-800-454-8000 on speed dial. If you need to call this number you do not want to have to go looking for it.
2) If you see a bunch of people sprint past you carrying automatic weapons and covered in rotting viscera, try to keep up with them. The movies always show that guy whose last thought is “What the heck are those guys running fro- OH MY GOD_Urk”
3) If you see me sprinting past you while carrying an automatic weapon and covered in rotting viscera, run perpendicular to my direction. Because I will shoot you in the foot to use you as bait. I don’t got to outrun the zombies, just you.
4) In any group of survivors there is usually one person who I will refer to as “creepy religious guy”. He’s the one muttering about God’s will, and how we deserve this punishment, and keeps saying disturbing quotes that sound kind of like they came out of the bible, but you are pretty sure that he’s just making them up as he goes.
No good ever comes out have letting him hang out. It’s only a matter of time before he tries human sacrifice or just let’s the zombies into your shelter. And he always get’s ripped apart in a horrible fashion. It’s best for everyone involved if you just give him a nice clean bullet to the head now.
5) In the event you come across a scientist who finds the zombies to be “fascinating specimens”, or crusty old military officers who start grumbling about “the perfect soldiers” see rule number 4.
6) Make certain that none of your friends are stupid enough to do any of the following: Read creepy old books out loud, open strange barrels with military warnings on them, screw around with angry lab monkeys, or propose any activity in a spooky abandoned mental hospital.
7) Never, ever, under any circumstances, attempt to have sex with a member of the undead. I would think that this particular rule is completely obvious to every person on the planet, but when you watch the kind of movies that I do it becomes evident that it is not.
8) If one of your friends has gone off to be by themselves, just assume that they are a goner. Don’t be the schmuck that goes off looking for them. That schmuck always get’s eaten by the zombified version of their friends.
9) If you hear a sound, but it turns out to just be the cat, start running. There are zombies behind you.
10) Do not take a shower during a zombie apocalypse. The zombies know when you are taking a shower, and they will show up. They also know when you are having sex, participating in underage drinking, cheating a friend, or doing any other morally questionable activity. Zombies are kind of like Santa Claus that way.

Re: Zombie plan
I didnt read through all of the posts, so I don't know if it was suggested...
http://www.amazon.com/Zombie-Survival-Guide-Complete-Protection/dp/1400049628/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1238876922&sr=8-1
The Zombie Survival Guide. Great read.
Among many things it points out that most traditional zombies can be stopped by any shot or blunt force to the head. That being the case, your firearm of choice is a 22LR semi-auto. Reasonably accurate and at zombie panic distances it'll penetrate plenty. The best thing about it is that you can find ammo anywhere and can carry a lot of it without getting bogged down.
Carrying a thousand rounds of 22LR gives you more kills than the equivallent weight of centerfire ammo.
My personal choice would be a Saiga 12guage semi-auto, though.

Re: Zombie plan
better to go with a shotgun that you can reload by the shell. no bulky mags, and it's easier to go on a kill-by-kill basis, feeding out of a pocket or bandoleer loops. hence my backup choice of my Franchi AL-48.
pertinent images:
...just gotta make sure I can link up with my bro and bring my revolver when it starts. He's our .22 man, but he's only got a tube-feed rifle for it.
...I need to invest in a good bandoleer with 12 gauge loops, .45 mag pouches and a sword frog on the back (already got a double-wrap sword belt for my little blades)...
but even with all that...
*hangs his head in shame*
pertinent images:
- Spoiler:
-I only wish this were mine. Everything that follows, on the other hand...
-I know, I know... target rounds instead of hollow points. too lazy too reload 'em all right now.
-the 12 gauge, if you were wondering.

Re: Zombie plan
Bulky mags huh?
I don't know what you're thinking, but those aren't that heavy. My choice would be a civilian (semi-automatic) Daewoo USAS 12 with a 20-round drum magazine (and 2-3 ten-round magazines).
While you're stopping to reload after 4-5 slugs, I've got 15 to go before I have to pull out, plug in, with 10 more to go. It's good if we end up in one of those "we're completely surrounded" situations without a flamer or grenades.
Sure your shotgun is close to 7 lbs, but who cares? Zombies aren't that fast anyway. You have to take enough ammunition with you to take on a lot of zombies anyway.
Fully automatic shotguns though... now there's a pain. More weight, more recoil, and unless they are completely surrounding us, is just wasted overkill.
....
Then there's the punt gun.
