Etta's long-lost sister! Henwall
This is of course, GsG's own Henrietta

Etta's long-lost sister! Wallpaper_02_1280
This is Chise from Saikano. Take a close look at them, I think we might just have found 'Etta's long-lost sister! The resemlance is uncanny!

Here's another one:
Etta's long-lost sister! Tukuro
Eka Turkuro of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (or Ep. 13 anyway)
Etta's long-lost sister! Natsukib
And Natsuki Kuga of of Mai-HiME. Not perfectly identical but... Neither were the first two.

The term you are looking for is "Variation on the Genetic Theme", which is what makes blood siblings what they are...

As for the post itself- Nice.

When it comes to Chise and Henrietta, there's also the fact that both of them are cyborgs, and how their respective series show that Cybernetics Eat Your Soul. Except that SaiKano is more depressing about it. Both are also (technically) unwilling servants of the government.

The other two are barely similar to Henrietta.

Etta's long-lost sister! Empty Re: Etta's long-lost sister!

Post by Piero Mon 18 Jan 2010 - 0:31

I remember that a long time ago I jokingly talked about how Eri Sawachika and Triela might be long lost siblings. If some of you remember, ADV for whatever reason decided to have Mimi ask Triela if she was Japanese in the English verison of Gunslinger Girl. I don't think the two are actually related but hey, Eri is half-Japanese, half British, she's blonde, she wears twin tails, she's a tsundere, and she's seen doing skeet shooting in the credits for the final episode of School Rumble's first season. Laughing (Keep in mind this occured back before a lot of us knew about Triela being from Tunisia.)

Just give her a tan. Smile

Etta's long-lost sister! Eri

Etta's long-lost sister! Tukuro
Eka Turkuro of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (or Ep. 13 anyway)
Etta's long-lost sister! Natsukib
And Natsuki Kuga of of Mai-HiME. Not perfectly identical but... Neither were the first two.

This one isn't really GSG related, but as a huge fan of Natsuki, I do find it rather interesting. It actually makes me wonder if Natsuki's character design took cues from the Ghost in the Shell girl, because from what I remember both characters are rebels of a sort (the girl from Ghost in the Shell is the leader of a terrorist group, while Natsuki is trying to bring down a MIB type agency which she believes is responsible for the death of her mother). Mai-HiME has apparently taken a lot of cues from other material (heck, the series as a whole is supposedly a parody of Kamen Rider Ryuki according to one source) so it seems possible.

What makes it even funnier if their is a link however is that Natsuki has her own expy in Ga-Rei Zero's Natsuki Kasuga (Natsuki Kuga/Natsuki Kasuga -they're not even trying to hide it in that case). I know they say basically everything draws on something else in fiction, but examples like that can really drive the point home. Laughing

If it weren't for wikipedia, I would have wondered how how Eri got her hands on a shotgun in Japan, but apparently you can own a rifle or shotgun for hunting or skeet shooting, if you're willing to go through a lengthy registration process. That also explains the lever-action rifle that makes an appearance in Umineko No Naku Koro Ni and a similar weapon that appears in Highschool of the Dead.

Haven't seen Burst Angel, but from that pic, they don't look that similar to me. As for Maria and Canaan, they look kinda similar, but, to me, they almost seem more like a couple to me than sisters, then again, maybe that's just the yuri fics between the two getting to my head. Also, is it just me or, judging from where, Jo's (I think) hand is, there might be some implied lesbianism between these two in the same manner as seen in Yoshika of Strike Witches (namely interest in other women's breasts) ... and Perrine.... and Luchinni..... and.... well.... the whole cast of Strike Witches are about as straight as the coiled mess of cables under my desk! Which reminds me.... Speaking of Strike Witches and Yuri....Presenting another idea from the depraved mind of SPARTAN 119:

OK.... It's official, the yuri fics have gotten to my head! Also, Spot the obvious Monty Python reference.

Well aktchooalee, the pantsu stealing incident was in episode 7, and oddly enough, the girls don't actually call their panties panties. They call them pants. Etta's long-lost sister! Icon_scratch

I think that the couple Piero posted look very similar. Just give Maria larger tracts of land, and dye her hair reddish orange. I have my own comparison to make:

Etta's long-lost sister! Chiami10

The above is Ami Kawashima from Toradora! and the bottom is Kaname Chidori from Full Metal Panic! Both of their series end in an exclamation mark! and the two look quite similar! The main difference is that Toradora! is animated by Studio DEEN and the season from which the Kaname picture originates was made by Kyoto Animation, so that means more moe and overall shininess! Just imagine Toradora! made by KyoAni, or Full Metal Panic! made by Studio DEEN and it will make more sense!

Toradora! isn't by Studio Deen. Toradora! is from JC Staff, just like pretty much everything else that involves Rie Kugamiya playing a tsundere loli in a leading role.

(And technically, only Fumoffu and TSR are by Kyoto Animation, FMP season one was by Gonzo.)

Yes, but in Strike Witches, none of the girls actually say "pantsu". They use the Japanese word for "pants". That's what I was referring to.

And as I also pointed out, the FMP picture is from Fumoffu.

Rargh.

Here's another random comparison, again using Ami.

Spoiler:

I have another, using Rico from GSG. I have to make the picture, though.

Mostly my attention, really. I highly enjoyed it, and regularly play the Strike Witches game.

Anyways! Here is my next comparison:

Original:

With TeatRico's head 'shopped on:

Etta's long-lost sister! Saberi10

I always noted how Saber's head looked suspiciously like Rico's, especially the front part of her hair and her ahoge, but I haven't actually made a photoshop to show the similarity.

It's not just appearance, actually. I believe someone had noted that basically both pairings had "a stoic badass paired with a cute but incompetent sidekick." (Something like that anyway.) Although I personally feel there's a few major differences between the two, one of the most notable being that Jo have a sort of stoic/apathetic personality when she's not in battle while Canaan has a tendency towards childlike playfulness.

I believe people have also remarked that Jo and Meg visually resemble Asuka and Rei from Evangelion, so I guess this is another case of how much interlinking there is between different 'creative' works. Laughing

Dude, that's first season (Gonzo) Kaname, not Fumoffu (Kyoto Animation) Kaname. The character art there appears to be from a book called Full Metal Panic: The Anime Mission (English title, not sure what it exactly in Japanese -I own the English version), and that book relates to the first season, not the second or third.
