New wallpaper of the week.

This is my current desktop. Is anyone actually surprised?



I've actually had it for quite a long time now, it's my second Mai-HiME desktop. The other one was a winter themed one, which should give you some idea how long the current one has been around for, considering how long it's been since it was very wintery outside. Prior to that I had one for Starship Operators, and several for Full Metal Panic and Ah! My Goddess.

Since it's October I'm using the "Haunted Hotel" theme...



I am also using Halloween-themed icons (like a Jack o'lantern for my Mac drive and a ghost for the Finder icon).

I'm pretty disappointed that no one ever seems to make backgrounds for wide screen monitors. I've always had to settle for things getting cut off because none of the ones I find are ever the right size, and the bars on the sides are fairly annoying.

I actually usually take widescreen HD wallpapers and edit them to size for my dismal non-widescreen monitor.

But I can feel your pain. WS computer monitors aren't being adopted as fast as widescreen TVs it seems.

Yeah, us with the laptops are left in the dust for the most part. Where did you find those widescreen HD wallpapers? I'd love to see what is around.

I have the same problem with finding wallpapers for widescreen laptops. In the end I usually ask someone to make one for me when I find a normal wallpaper or picture I like since I fail at making them myself.

Well it's impossible to find them natively sized for my 30", but in terms of finding 1920x1200 or 1680x1050 or 1440x900, no real issues there for me.

Most of the time I honestly just use google image search and filter the results for big pictures. Like >2 MB etc. It's kinda hit and miss if you'll find what you want if it's really specific, but usually I can find something I like.

Ah, okay. I've never really thought of that, so that would explain it. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a shot sometime.

As for photoshop, I've yet to install it, so I can't play around with it and learn how to make my own.

I have a widescreen laptop and an old CRT that is not widescreen... I have a tendency to just use backdrops that can stand being stretched well. The desktop in my previous post for instance was stretched to fit the screen (in this case a widescreen peripheral monitor -I actually do have a cheap peripheral LCD monitor in residence. The CRT I use at home is kind of big to transport back and forth between locations, and the desks they have here have very limited surface area anyway. My laptop, LCD monitor, keyboard, and mouse take up pretty much the whole desk.

The relative lack of widescreen desktops thing is actually kind of surprising, it seems like LCDs have taken over from CRTs in terms of new monitor sales, and LCDs tend to be widescreen. Also, laptops are hugely popular these days and a lot of them are widescreen as well.

i recently bought a 22" 1080p 16:9 widescreen, probably one of best decisions ive made. playing movies and anime on it is super cool since u dont get the black bars at the top and the bottom. as well as getting to see the full hd quality of new releases.

finding 1920x1080 wallpapers is harder than 1920x1200 but still i prefer 16:9

I've had a rekindled interest in Ga-Rei Zero lately, and found an image from the show that I felt was suitable for use as a wallpaper. Not sure if I'll keep it for long though, as I'm really fond of the Mai Tokiha desktop I had (there's a reason that thing was my desktop for so long).

On the topic of Windows 7-tan, here's someone's experience with the new Windows 7 Theme copied over from the /a/ forum on 4chan, pretty much confirming that 7-tan's going to be a lot more effective marketing than the new Whopper:

"I installed it on my work computer and played around with it for a good hour before deciding to uninstall it.

I went into the theme manager, selected Nanami, and hit the Delete button.

A confirmation box popped up and she immediately went "Areeee? "

I sat there for a minute feeling like utter shit, with butterflies in my stomach over how fucking adorable that was. Then I tried it again and couldn't bring myself to do it. I felt like Solid Snake trying to kill Frank Jaeger before facing Metal Gear Rex in the first game.

So yeah, about that winter desktop I talked about earlier. Turns out I'm back to using it...

Maybe I should try to mix things up a little more. My fanboyism for this series is starting to embarass me. Then again, I'm very choosy about my desktops, that's a bit part of the reason I don't change them that often.
