Elsa de Sica
Voiced by: Mamiko Noto (Japanese), Brina Palencia (English) in Gunslinger Girl
Elsa de Sica was another girl whose origins are unclear. She did not wish to associate with anyone except her handler, Lauro, with whom she was deeply in love. Elsa's attitude towards others, even among the other girls, could be described as aloof and impersonal. She would live, and die, only for Lauro. When Elsa finally realized that Lauro did not return her feelings, she asked him to take her to the park where she first received her name.
There, Elsa shot Lauro in the back of the head and then shot herself in the eye, committing suicide. Elsa's actions demonstrated the potentially tragic drawbacks of the fratello relationship and prompted Section 2 to prove the worth of the child assassins to the Italian government. Elsa's preferred weapons were the SIG 550, SIG 551, and SIG P229.
In the manga, Elsa never appeared alive (exceptions being a very brief flashback), and was only introduced after her death. The anime, however, devoted an entire episode to her relationship with her handler as a prelude to her committing murder suicide with Lauro.

This one's okay enough, apart from missing out that Elsa also used a PGM Ultima Ratio Hecate II to snipe.

Re: Elsa de Sica
The problem I see here, is when does Elsa is seen live inthe Manga as a flash back? I've read it back and forth so many times, I cant see it.
(Unless the girl we think is Triela in the Pasta Prince Mangas is actually Elsa? Then that would make her older that the others expect for Angie herself!)

Volume One, Elfen - just one frame in the final chapter. It's a frame in which Elsa is seen looking at Lauro as he walks away from her - both with their backs to the reader. Blink and you'll miss it.

I think the "flash back" you mean is this one:
(Vol.1, page 71)
I also ignored it when I go through the manga, since this frame is too small......
And this is the only frame I can found from the manga which had clearly show the face of Elsa:
Poor Elsa.....

How is Lauro's name pronounced I just saw the episode on demand and it sounds like they call him Lore-o, I'm not sure but I think Elsa might have said Law-ro. Since italian kinda sounds like spanish, it might be L-ow-ro.

In the ADV release it's page-139;frame-3. That scan above is a lot clearer than my english copy. The best I can make out is a fountain, bench, and grass. Everything else is too dark.
And this is the only frame I can found from the manga which had clearly show the face of Elsa:
Where is that one from? There's only one scene in Vol 1 with Jose and Jean talking about that case, and I don't have that frame. Damn ADV and the horse they rode in on!!

The frame is from Chapter 29: Phantasma. It's when Jean and Giuse are in the ruins on Sicily waiting for Rico and Henrietta to arrive on the ferry.

Where does her last name come from? He didn't want to be attached, so he might have given her a name he thought up, right, or is that against the agency's fratello rules?

I am not sure we know "de Sica" is her last name, to be honest. "de Sica" can mean "of/from Sica" when translated to English and a "sica" is an ancient Roman sword. Lauro may have called her "Elsa of the Sica / Elsa of the Sword" as a reference to her function as a weapon. Or Sica could be the name of a location so she could be "Elsa from Sica".
Elsa says Lauro "gave her her name" in that park, but she could be referring to him telling her name would be "Elsa".

Re: Elsa de Sica
I am going with the implication that the girls gets their handler's surnames. This would tighten the fratello bond between them and in cases like of the Elsa Incident, when found in a situation by other authority figures, gives the girls a last name.Kiskaloo wrote:hydra282 wrote:Where does her last name come from?

Thusly, as stated about on thie forum, Elsa got her surname from Lauro- Lauro diSica. Many Italian surnames sometimes refer to a family's origin, Like Di Vinci... Leonardo Di Vinci (he did come from Vinci- in English that would be Venice).

I actually have a feeling that Yu doesn't even know. Most of the time manga artists adjust their ideas to suit changing times e.g. have Petra do a pole dance if ratings drop too low or change Jose's hairstyle if his editor asks him to. So even if you ask him he can't give you a straight answer

I believe you’re right MikhailN. It’s the same with the “What order did the fratello’s teams join” debate. I’ll bet Yu himself doesn’t know and probably doesn’t care – he just plugs new girls in when the story calls for it. He’s not exactly what you’d call a slave to continuity.MikhailN wrote:I actually have a feeling that Yu doesn't even know. That was her pulling the trigger on him, calling his name as she did so.
The refrain she sings, translated into English, is:
The name you gave me... my name is Elsa de Sica
The cyborg who loves and will kill you... my name is Elsa de Sica

Re: Elsa de Sica
Ok, since we’ve started to learn a good bit more about the girls and their handlers in recent chapters and episodes, I thought it might not be a bad time to revise their sections in the wiki. I also took the liberty of trimming them a bit, since in many cases they were more plot summaries than character summaries. Let me know what you think, please.
Elsa de Sica’s world revolved around her handler, Lauro, even though he showed general disinterest towards her. Triela claimed that Elsa was in love with Lauro and generally ignored the other cyborgs. In both the manga and the anime, Henrietta believes that Elsa, knowing Lauro would never return her feelings of love and affection, took him to the park where Lauro named her and murdered him, taking her own life thereafter. Elsa's preferred weapons were the SIG 550, SIG 551, and SIG P229. At the time of her first appearance, Elsa was the newest addition to the Agency.[10]

Re: Elsa de Sica
Define this fanbase.
This would be true if it were in the United States, but it is not.
This is an international community, and thus there are a lot more people with access to the video game than there are not. We in the states do not make a majority of the fanbase, but only represent our wants and issues the loudest- making us bigger than we actually are.
Therefore I would say to include the Video game, but some where along the top of the Wiki Entry that the Canon Universe includes the Printed Manga Material (broken down to what it consists- the books and magazine chapter releases), the two seasons of the anime, and the 3 video games. How many anime series you can say has 3 video gamed from it? Many may have 1, and a few 2, but 3? And to my understanding- in those areas where the game was sold- it was a hit. This makes the fan base bigger than one may actually think though one group such as ours may not have access to the game.
In argueing this point, just because we in America do not have access to the Non-English Volume and Magazine releases of the manga, and of Season 2 of the Anime, then all that information should be made moot and removed from the Wiki because to us this material does not exist. And we would be wrong in doing that. The same applies to the games, even though we do not have access to it- it is still canon material.

Re: Elsa de Sica
Well we have not included the video games in the prior entries so their is precedent to not include them now.
And if we do, how do we set it up? Does the game follow a linear story path? Or does it branch depending on what actions you take? If the latter, how do we do that?
Plus somebody has to write a complete synopsis of the games so we can pick and choose what to include.
And I'm trying to not include things specific to the anime or the manga since they can (and have) contradicted each other. So we should not add things specific to the games, either.
Personally, I think it is far too much headache.

And I'm trying to not include things specific to the anime or the manga since they can (and have) contradicted each other. So we should not add things specific to the games, either.
Personally, I think it is far too much headache.

Re: Elsa de Sica
Only a few of our members have played the game, and they can tell the rest of us what its story entails. To my understanding, it is the "Fratello On The Run" mission where Ernesto takes Pia to join Padania. Now the details as to why are iffy for me, but I can piece something together for you from what I know. When it happens- is unclear- although Pia's statement of the game says to Henrietta that "we been friends since the beginning" making it sound like this is Pre Manga/Anime material. If not, it has to be very soon after Season 1/Vol 1 & 2. I do have the GsG Promotional CDs (burned from two ISOs I got years ago on the net) of the game & season 1 anime/ V1/V2 manga releases- though in Japanese. I could go over it to see where things fit.Kiskaloo wrote:Well we have not included the video games in the prior entries so their is precedent to not include them now.

As for where things are to it, a simple line in the beginning like I stated before, with links to explain each universe branch. Furthermore, I remember there being a second GsG Wiki Entry that does explain the 3 universes (I need to find that wiki page), and such links can point to it.
Welcome to the world of Wiki Management... :lol!:Kiskaloo wrote:Personally, I think it is far too much headache.

Re: Elsa de Sica
Well there is a short synopsis of the GSG game on the current Wiki page and, personally, I believe it is sufficient.
We now know that, at best, Henrietta and Rico were the fifth and sixth cyborgs since Sylvia and Chiara pre-date them by around 12 months. If we count Pia, then they become the sixth and seventh.
We also do not list Pia nor Ernesto in the cyborg listing page.
So I am inclined to continue to confine the video games to their section on the main page and not reference them anywhere else because that is how the page has always been.

Re: Elsa de Sica
Just need to question as to where is 1/2 of this information coming from? Nowhere have I read in the scanlations that Sylvia and Chiara came before anyone and its sheer spectulation on this point.
I'll agree to disagree on the GsG Video Game entry- but you are (one of the) Wiki Authors for that site, so you have conrtol of it. All I can do is state my point(s) for it, which I did.

Sylvia's handler asks her how long they have been together in Chapter 61 and Sylvia replies "it was after Chiara, so less then three years, right?".
Rico and Henrietta have been there for two years based on Rico's claim in the anime that "two years ago I got this new body".

Re: Elsa de Sica
You taking into consideration that there is 1 year time difference between Sea1/Epi3 (aka V1/CH2) and Chapter 61? This would make Rico's claim of 2 years into 3 at this point.
Thus; if Sylvia replies was 'Less than 3 years', then they came after Rico and possibily Henrietta too; and not before them.

No I am not.
So yes, it's possible Silvia and Chiara arrived after Rico and Henrietta. I still think they arrived before Claes, however.
Anyway, this is why I hate trying to keep his manga straight in my OC fiction universe.

Re: Elsa de Sica
Dare I propose a Wiki Conference so we can straighten out all the fact before they get put up?
Having the characters in the Wiki Entry is one thing, and the way it looks is great, but things are not fitting together as far as the story goes. This part should be fixed in the least, and thus a call for such a conference. Just open up a thread on this topic listing is all that is needed.

Re: Elsa de Sica
Well that's what all these thread updates are for so we're all on as much of the same page as possible before I post the updates to Wiki.

Poor Elsa, it would have been different if she had a handler more like Jose.
