... Another one I have to add to my watchlist

A cult classic to be sure. I admit though that this movie(though edited due to cable restrictions) along with Vampire Hunter D and Robot Carnival each seen in one stellar night; cemented my love for animation at a time when I was struggling with thinking I should've outgrown it by now.

Although I would've loved to see the completed "Neverwhere Land" as it seems to have had the potential of being the most thought provoking piece out of the entire film.

Seen that one. It's a goodie to be sure!

I was aware that it was in production, but not that it had been released yet. Pretty cool.

all of the ship interiors are CGI,the original sets were scanned and then dismantled when BSG ended,given how crappy SYFY now is it's unlikely to become a new series and will remain a web/dvd special

Well if they had ghosts, it would probably have been green-lighted as a new series.

They tried a prequel before with Caprica,but some brainiac decided to try and draw in more female viewers and toned down the action aspects of it,their research had shown that the action aspect had put off most ladies(there are always exceptions) from BSG,unfortunately it seems that made little difference to female viewers who never watched in the first place and bored the male ones silly,as a result hardly anyone watched Caprica and it was dropped,Blood and Chrome has returned to a more action based storyline aimed at the largely male Sci Fi fan base

Being an original Battlestar Galactica fan, to me it only goes to show how cool special effects (whose battles scenes seemed rushed somehow, the pacing maybe, not sure) are not enough. The show looks good over all, but man do I miss the original actors like Lorne Green, rest in peace. The feel is missing to me.... I dunno. Still like I said, over all one thumb up.

A shame, because Caprica was actually very good. Here in the US they never gave it a consistent time slot. If the audience doesn't know when the program is aired they won't watch.

I saw the entire series...but I had to wait until it was available on Netflix.

According to the ads on the Youtube teaser episode SyFy channel plans to broadcast the Blood & Chrome series in February.

Haven't seen it yet, but I find it amusing that Jackson, Walsh & Boyens have taken the shortest of the 4 books Tolkein wrote (5 if you count The Silmarillion, but that was just a posthumous assemblage of his notes) and split it up into two full length movies.

The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
There and Back Again (2014)

And considering the first was three hours in length, one would expect the other two would be similar in length.

Wonderfully acted, costumed & shot, but very demanding to watch. It's two and a half hours of magnificent oratory, but that's kind of an ordeal to sit through in a theater...deprived of the opportunity to get up, stretch out and take a break. Don't think the sweeping speeches will be broken up by the occasional action scene either...it really is 2.5 hours of solid speaking, but absolutely magnificent speaking. The old wide screen epics of the 1960's had intermissions, this film could have used one.

It's certainly not an entry level history lesson. You have to walk into the theater with a solid knowledge of that period in American history because the characters will not be introduced...in some cases they're not even named, you're just expected to know who these people are by the context.
It seems impossible for Danel Day Lewis to do anything he's not magnificent in...and he's supported by great performances from Sally Field & Tommy Lee Jones.

I really enjoyed the movie, but to most I'd recommend seeing it at home on video just because of its length. If you do want to see it in a theater, pop a few ibuprofen pills first and enjoy.

The Life of Pi:
This is one I probably wouldn't have chosen to see myself, but I'm glad I was talked into it.
The visuals are stunning. You're aware that 80% of it is CGI, but it's "good CGI"...the kind that you can forget is CGI and just enjoy the story (as opposed to "bad CGI", which feels like you're watching a glorified cartoon).
There's a decent story too, which probably demands a few watchings before you catch everything...but this is mostly a visual feast. I saw it with 3-D glasses, which probably added to it, but I have little basis for comparison there.

The Hobbit Part 1:
Somebody please cut Peter Jackson's special effects budget and teach him that sometimes less is more.

It wasn't terrible. For a movie with a 2h 46m run-time it kept me reasonably entertained...but if I was a studio executive in charge of editing this film I think I could have cut an hour out of it without sacrificing any quality. Usually I look forward to the extended, director's cut version of films; this time I'm dreading it.

The problem is the action sequences. They go on forever, to the point where they just become tedious. Honestly they remind me more of Jackson's god-awful remake of King Kong more than his excellent work on the three LOTR films...in fact he re-cycles a few of the sequences from King Kong.

Trim a few of the interminable action scenes and you've actually got a pretty good film. Performance wise; the standout is Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield. I first read the book when I was 11, and a few more times since, and he was not what I expected of the character, but Armitage was terrific in the role. He has a very commanding screen presence.
All-in-all it was a solid film...but the director's lack of restraint with his action scenes seriously weighed it down.

The 2011 version of The Three Musketeers:
Holy shit...this was easily one of the bottom-ten worst films I have ever seen. I can not think of a single aspect of this movie where the director, writers or producer made intelligent choices.

Since I bring up Orlando Bloom I run the risk of Triela swooping in to his defense...or worse, taking the train up-river to come attack me with her lightsaber. Normally I like really Bloom, he's been great in other stuff but here he acts like a cartoon villain. It kind of reminds me of George Carlin's performance in Jersey Girl...he realized the film was awful and started making fun of it through his performance...kind of a subliminal message to the audience saying "Sorry...I know this is terrible, I'm only doing it for the paycheck."

I only watched this movie because I figured my OC Marisa would like it, but even she would have to agree this was a total turd. I'm honestly trying to think of one nice thing to say about this film, but I can't.

My only gripes with Life of Pi were the use of exposition to explain the fact that the island was carnivorous, and the fact that Ang Lee decided not to film Pi's 'alternate' version of events, opting instead to have Pi merely describe it in words. Other than that, I loved it. The shipwreck scene was harrowing as all hell, and I absolutely loved the electrical storm and 'whale leap' moments. Wish I caught it in 3D.

No, I won't attack you... for now... I admit I saw that movie only for my Orlando. I liked that he played a villain for once and thought he did a great job. His acting was great, and he did have a comical vibe to him while still being evil. That's what so hard about being me. Even though actors are in bad movies I still watch them to see my favorite actors. XD

Has everyone seen Star Wreck yet? I figure a bunch of Finns were snowed in, and one said that the ships in ST:TNG could beat the ones from Bab5, and another said no, and ...

Anyhow, just watch it.

Just finished Skyfall. That guy was one of the best Bond villains I've seen in a long time.

of oft-times self-contradicting canon, how "inelegantly obvious" it was.
It was sheer genius, and the execution was flawless. (Insert lens

I've seen plenty of Hollywood's scions have a great first outing, only
to crash and detonate their second time. Many let success get to their
heads. Others are just one-shot wonders.

Only if he can obliterate the box office with ST:ID will I then long for another one.

Wow, downer of a movie, but definately worth a look. Can't say much without spoilers, but some of the themes reminded me of GSG.

That was a very interesting film.

Dredd is opening in the US tonight, and I definitely think that it's worth a watch. If you do intend to go an see it, it's best to catch it in the cinema - I think that it would lose a lot of its presence on a television.

Seriously, that was one of the most jaw-droppingly gorgeous scenes of violence I've ever laid eyes upon. I was mesmerized.

Dredd is an amazing adaptation of the source material. I'm hoping there'll be sequels. Bring on the Dark Judges!

I saw Warm Bodies recently. It wasn't the best, but it was really cute. It was a nice take on zombies, and how some of them had higher intelligence. (Kinda reminded me of America Zombie, a little)

The release date of the Evil Dead remake is getting closer. I can't contain my excitement!!

Makoto Shinkai will have a new film out at the end of May (so I guess I'll be going to Tokyo for my birthday) titled Kotonoha no Niwa | 言の葉の庭 | The Garden of Words:

Iron Man was great. Iron Man 2, not so much, but still solid. So I'll be in the theater for 3.

Been re-watching Saw again. I'm up to the 4th one, and yet I keep going back and watching the first one over and over again. I have watched it 5 times in 3 days or something. It's defiantly the best one plot wise, character wise, and without too much blood and guts. Plus it has Cary Elwes in it... Plus I have an OTP from the first Saw... LawrenceXAdam aka CHAINSHIPPING!! XD

So yeah... Probably gonna watch it again tomorrow while I animate.

The first Saw is wonderfully suspenseful, although I have to disagree that it provides the best character moments. Nothing can top the second film in the character department, if you ask me. I love it because we finally come face to face with the monster himself, and find out why he does what he does - important questions that remained unanswered in Saw I. The scenes where John and Detective Matthews interact feature some truly great acting, and cemented Tobin Bell's reputation as one of horror's finest stars.

The Veronica Mars movie has been green-lit thanks to it securing over two millions dollars in funding in less than 24 hours via a kickstarter project.

As a huge fan of the TV series, I am a very happy panda.

I'm a little worried that part of me is willing to watch this just for "So Emma Watson showed up... Hermione just stole all of our shit."

Just got back from seeing Evil Dead. It was AMAZING. THAT is a remake done right! Go see it you guys!!!!

A very different film than I expected and a very better film than I expected.

Finally caught Star Trek: Into the Darkness.

It was awesome, to pick some favorite bits from it:
- Benedict Cumberbatch hamming it up. They need to put him in more things... but I'm never going to be able to watch Sherlock the same way again.

Star Trek.

That whole movie was such a great experience. There was a lot more Spock, which I loved. <3333 The only thing that ruined it for me was dumb Cumberbatch. I hate the guy. He's SOOOOOOO ugly and he's a terrible person. His only redeeming quality is his voice. Now all the Sherlock fans are clamoring into the Star Trek fandom and saying he was be best thing in the movie. Kill me.

Just finished it myself. Quite entertaining, but not as good as the first movie. Honestly, it felt more like a Michael Bay film than a J.J. Abrams film (well, maybe Michael Bay channeling a little Nicholas Meyer considering some of the plot elements). One podcaster referred to it as the "Transformers 2 of Star Trek movies" and I tend to find myself in at least partial agreement.

Seeing it in 3D probably didn't help since I tend to dislike the "cardboard cutouts moving in front of a background" effect such live-action movies tend to have for the first 15-20 minutes until my brain integrates it properly as well as a lot of stuff flying everywhere.


Also saw the trailer for Ender's Game. Never read the book (though I know the basic story), but I'll be there for the movie.

Just saw that tonight. It was okay, but once you figure out what's really going on (which happens about halfway through the running time) it becomes a bit tedious. The visual effects were well executed...interesting but used in such a way that they did not overwhelm the film.
