Mark, Harrison and Carrie are all way too old to play their characters in the Expanded Universe. We're probably looking at their kids or grandkids.

Maggie Gyllenhaal can stand in for Carrie. They look almost alike. I'm sure there must be other people they can use for Luke and Han. Doubt anyone will give a shit, as long as the actors are good.
Failing that, they can go Avatar on our asses and use CG.

I'm with this right here. Use of the Yuuzhan Vong War would be excellent in this scope, but the excellent stories from the Legacy of the Force novel series would prove more to the point in my opinion.
I for one wouldn't mind seeing an animated version of the 'Great Sith War' and seeing Exar Kun, my favorite Sith Lord, become the first to use a double-bladed lightsaber.

Meh. I'm tired of people trying to milk the franchise. Let it die, because it's cursed. I loathe everything that came out after Jedi, and Jedi wasn't that strong of a film in the first place.
The first trilogy, and what I saw of the Clone Wars (the movie, under obligation) were lacking the key element from the original trilogy - humour. One liners. Zingers.
===
On an unrelated note, I saw Wreck-it Ralph and it was fantastic. The lead games aren't real properties, but they are strongly reminiscent of quarter-vacuums I've played in my youth.

Honestly, they can't do worse than Lucas and letting folks like J.J. Abrams have a hand in it might come up with something amazing.

Out of curiosity, is there a canon of films that aeronautical engineers like yourself, or flight buffs in general, can reliably enjoy? Is Movie Night for the Boeing designers a bowl of nachos and Con Air?
Also, on the topic of Wreck-it Ralph, the movie has retro stylings in more ways than one - it won't be appearing in UK cinemas until February. Having to wait four months for an international release definitely makes me feel as though I'm in the Eighties again.

I'll have to ask around.
And here is the latest work from fellow flight enthusiast and PIXAR animator Enrico Casarosa: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xuq5tq_la-luna-pixar_shortfilms

Exar Kun. <3 His rebellion against the Jedi and Old Republic was arguably as great a threat as Palpatine's.

I found it a bit hit and miss... I loved the Thrawn Trilogy (read them in about year 5, my first introduction to the EU), and the X-wing series (particularly Wraith Squadron, which was hilarious), just to name a few... some of it felt like it was getting too far from the source material: like someone had an original story concept but was too lazy to make up their own universe so somehow shoe-horned it into Star Wars.taerkitty wrote:What little I heard about the EU left me with low hopes, anyhow.

I guess it's too late to ask for a look at my fanfic, then?Nachtsider wrote:You are dead to me.taerkitty wrote:What little I heard about the EU left me with low hopes, anyhow.
My distaste for the EU stems from when it was first being fleshed out. The plots sounded like teen fanfic - Han and Leia have twins, they're psychic, and they're strong in The Force.
I have nothing against twins - in fact, both characters in my OC fratello are twins, though they're the sole survivors of their family so their twins won't be in the picture.
It's the Wonder Twins-esque-ness of the psychic-Force-twins that had me rolling my eyes.
I like the concept of "all is not well after the Empire falls" - look at history (and contemporary Middle East) and you'll see that the aftermath of a revolution is often more death than the overthrow of the despotic government in the first place (though their 'track record' while they were in power may far surpass both.)
I just hated how they, like Lucas, couldn't leave the CCs alone, and, if they had to keep on milking the CCs, they came up with sub-par plots.

Think if PIXAR had done Tron.
Seriously, it was the equal of anything PIXAR has done. And the soundtrack was absolutely brilliant (was pulling it down via iTunes on the way back to the car).
I also call dibs on the title Sugar Rush for a future Kara driving story.
And Paperman had me in tears, it was so beautiful. Whoever you are, John Kahrs, I stand in awe of your talent.

Zombies hold no interest to me, so I wasn't going to watch it anyway, but evidently JMS' original script was a solid adaption of the book, but Hollywood being Hollywood, they wanted it to be mostly action so they kept re-writig it and pushing the release date back.

Strike Witches: The Movie
As we know, the two things that make Strike Witches great is pantsu and aerial combat sequences.
Needless to say, the pantsu has never looked better. And with a score of new witches, the PPM (Pantsu Per Minute) is appreciably high. But they remembered the combat sequences, as well.

^ That's what fat chicks in denial love to tell themselves. "It's just the angle." Hah.
So I watched Skyfall a few hours ago. No, Kisk, it's not the best Bond flick of all time. But it's most definitely Craig's best outing as Bond to date, and a hell of a watch. Javier Bardem plays the first truly unsettling Bond villain we've had in a while, the new, youthful Q is a nice nod to James Bond Junior (yeah, suck it haters, I liked that series), the final showdown on the Scottish moors is one of the most harrowing fight sequences in any Bond movie, and the opening titles? With all those floating guns and tombstones and red mist? Nothing short of beautiful. From a guy who isn't all too fond of Craig as Bond: watch it.

Yeah, if I'm honest Goldfinger remains the "gold standard" of Bond films, IMO. But considering that was almost 50 years ago, I feel entitled to some hyperbole.

Sorry to the fanboys, but Andrew Garfield is a more convincing Peter Parker and the best part is that unlike the last few Spidey movies; this one is oozing with canon relevancy.

So after a couple of false starts; one involving a late flight and the second my mate deciding that, instead of coming to the movies, he would far prefer to hurl himself off his motorbike, I finally got around to seeing (with said mate, who got away with a grazed knee and bruised ankle) Skyfall.
Great movie, definately the best of the more recent offerings. But, as good as it was... the last two minutes just made the whole movie for me.

- Pretty much from the shot of the hat stand on, you know what's coming and it does... right down to Moneypenny's dress and the quilted door. Best. Ending. Ever.
Looking back though, the whole movie was working toward going back to "old" Bond... right from giving Moneypenny a Rolex Explorer for the first sequence.
And John... I now totally understand the decision to go PPK rather than PPS... though still a little miffed at using the PPK/S.

It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to see Mr. Fleming essentially role playing his character in that letter.Kiskaloo wrote:May I suggest that Mr. Bond be armed with a revolver?

Sorry about all the Bond-related postings, but one website I follow is a big Bond fan so he links to all this stuff and as a Bond fan myself, I find it cool.

Cult movie night at a mate's place... just caught Heavy Metal.
Just, wow.
Those who've seen it'll know what I mean. For those who haven't, I'll leave you with the opening:

An oldie, but a goodie.
South Park did a brilliant parody of it.

Yeah, we had that queued up directly after the movie... while all the references were still fresh.Kiskaloo wrote:An oldie, but a goodie.

A cult classic to be sure. I admit though that this movie(though edited due to cable restrictions) along with Vampire Hunter D and Robot Carnival each seen in one stellar night; cemented my love for animation at a time when I was struggling with thinking I should've outgrown it by now.
Although I would've loved to see the completed "Neverwhere Land" as it seems to have had the potential of being the most thought provoking piece out of the entire film.

I was aware that it was in production, but not that it had been released yet. Pretty cool.Kiskaloo wrote:Why was I not told of this?

Re: Films Everything
all of the ship interiors are CGI,the original sets were scanned and then dismantled when BSG ended, given how crappy SYFY now is it's unlikely to become a new series and will remain a web/dvd special

Well if they had ghosts, it would probably have been green-lighted as a new series.
Already pre-ordered the Blu-ray.

or wrestling
They tried a prequel before with Caprica, but some brainiac decided to try and draw in more female viewers and toned down the action aspects of it,their research had shown that the action aspect had put off most ladies(there are always exceptions) from BSG,unfortunately it seems that made little difference to female viewers who never watched in the first place and bored the male ones silly,as a result hardly anyone watched Caprica and it was dropped,Blood and Chrome has returned to a more action based storyline aimed at the largely male Sci Fi fan base

Re: Films Everything
Being an original Battlestar Galactica fan, to me it only goes to show how cool special effects (whose battles scenes seemed rushed somehow, the pacing maybe, not sure) are not enough. The show looks good over all, but man do I miss the original actors like Lorne Green, rest in peace. The feel is missing to me.... I dunno. Still like I said, over all one thumb up.Kiskaloo wrote:Why was I not told of this?
