Oh! Anyone here reads Narnia (the series like 'The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, etc.)

I only managed to get a hand on the 2nd book. I'd love to get the 1st and the third...

It's been well over 20 years since I read the Narnia books, so my memory of them isn't that sharp. I thought that they were ok reading but they aren't anything that I would bother reading again.

Now, if I could find my copies of Glen Cook's "The Black Company", I'd read those again. "The Black Company" is professional mercenary group for hire -- one that has a long history. The story is narrated by the company's archivist (Croaker). There's some interesting personalities in the company (which is what makes the book so enjoyable).

Heh. Thanks.

The thing about the Holmes stories is that we don't know exactly when Watson is retelling the events. He could be relating the stories decades after they happened, for all we know - the man could have been pretty senile by then.

Hey that´s a good point!

Well the memorials all are written in the past but in some stories they talk about them..... I think Watson wrote notices off the case and after the case was finished he wrote the whole story again..........but he´s really exately when he´s doing it........... Well at least Arthur Conan Doyle wrote them Wink
But I like the storys when Watson was telling them more than when Sherlock Holmes himself was telling them..............

I thought the stories narrated by Holmes himself were a refreshing touch, actually. It's nice to have a more direct look at how his mind works. 'The Lion's Mane' was the best of the Holmes-narrated stories - very interesting outcome to a mystery.

Yeah, it was refreshing and I agree with you: "The Lion´s Mane" was the best ,but still I like it when Watson is telling the stories....So Holmes seems more brilliant and some things sounds funnier when Watson is telling it (When Holmes is shooting the V.S. in in the living room wall for example)

Point.

If you ask me, the funniest moment in the Holmes series is the opening sequence in 'The Dancing Men'. Holmes deduces Watson's thoughts , and tells an amazed Watson that he (Holmes) bets Watson will say "How absurdly simple!" once an explanation is provided. Watson assures Holmes that he will say nothing of the sort, Holmes provides the explanation and Watson goes "How absurdly simple!"

She's a smooth operator. That woman totally should have ended up with Holmes instead.

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, Triela-Chan, but another author got Doyle's permission to use Irene Adler in some of his own stories, which feature her as a spy for the British government. They're pretty good, but I can't quite remember this writer's name at the moment...

Remembered it, but was in error the first time. The author's a woman herself - Carole Nelson Douglas. And Irene's not a spy - she's a detective, too.

Holmes is a far more personable man than House, actually, and much less arrogant/sarcastic. House is a crabby guy who's a good soul deep down inside, but Holmes is nice both outwardly and inwardly. Unlike House, he certainly wouldn't do or say anything to offend you - at least, not on purpose.

I read manga a lot now a days. So books are hard to come by in my room now. ^o^

I love the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. ^__^

If you guys haven't read Jurassic Park you HAVE to! It's sooo amazing!

I also read Dinotopia. I just love the idea of an island where dinosaurs are still alive. ^___^ <3

Oh and I hae 3 Orlando Bloom biographies that I read all the time. (i try to pack as much knowlage about him as I can into my brain)

The last book I bought was about 2 weeks ago. It's Star Wars Darth Maul Shadow Hunter. It was all about Darth Maul before Episode 1. It was EPIC!

I also read Ai No Kusabi (a yaoi novel series.) <3

After a series of delays, I finally get myself to buy Suzumiya Haruhi light novels. Damn its annoying how 'Kyonko no Bakushin' doujin's always out of stock! No, its not hentai.

...Much more detailed than the Anime. It actually somewhat urged me to re-watch the entire season...

I read that Very Happy Can't really remember it though, it was ages ago... But I also saw the movie, which was similarly epic Very Happy

Triela-Chan wrote:Oh, I want to read it too! First I have to finish Breaking Dawn (read it in english...couldn´t wait for the german translations Razz ) And I guess I have to read the first 2 Eragon-novels again because I forgot almost everything that happened in there...

There's a synopsis at the beginning, but I re-read the others anyway Very Happy

What's Breaking Dawn about?

Artemis Fowl is awesome. If I didn't know better, I'd swear Colfer was more than just a schoolteacher. He really knows his technical stuff.

I've been mostly reading books that have pissed me off.

I'm looking forward to starting T. Boone Pickens' new one tomorrow since it actually has hope as a subject. Very Happy

Here’s a question. How many books have you read in one sitting? That is, straight through, non-stop?

I have two:

1. Catcher In the Rye - J.D. Salinger
2. On the Road - Jack Kerouac

One. It was a science fiction book, but I don't recall the name. Certainly not from a well-known author or a famous title. But the writing was just too good to put down.

Umm... None. Not recently, anyway. All of the books I read nowadays are at least 200 A5 pages, most far more...

American anime and manga companies are getting better tho.

Yeah, but I still can't forgive them for that...that...'american anime-wannabe' show, the one that...was it Nickelodon channel or something show.

Bah! The artwork's and story not even that close to ours! Definitely compare to our standards....

PWNED!

I have to agree, but not all American animation tv shows are bad. Some are just meant to be funny. I just love Family Guy and the simplicity of the character models. I guess that's an element that makes it so hilarious. ^o^

Cartoon Network stuff on the other hand is mostly trash. Everything is so poorly done. >_<

Panzer where you talking about Avatar the Last Air Bender? For the LOOOONGEST time I didn't know weather it was an anime or an american cartoon, since I see things for it at anime conventions it made me even more confused. @_@ Not that I watch it, I hardly watch any American cartoons anymore.

Used to do it all the time... in middle school, I used to read in lieu of paying attention in class.
So, for a direct answer...
I'm not sure. Most of the Pern series, some other young adult fantasy series involving the reverse of various fairy tales (can't remember the names, but I think the female lead's name was Cimerene, or something)... some book they made me read that was about a catholic missionary/doctor somewhere in South America (which was boring, but mercifully short... the book report I wrote was more of a scathing critique)... those are just what I remember distinctly... there were a bunch more... mostly sci fi or fantasy.
Haven't read anything of substance in a single sitting since 1996, though.
