Re: Girls will love this gun
I wonder what you want to do with a handgun. The Israelis have developed the powerful Desert eagle Gun which uses magnum amunition since ordinary guns are not powerful enough to stop a suicide bomber, So it would be better if it was a recoil free rifle on the top instead of an handgun. Even the germans had recoil free cannons in WWII, so it should be not so difficult to develop a recoil free rifle

Re: Girls will love this gun
So called recoiless rifles counterbalance recoil by venting gas to the back of the weapon as well as the front. Increased firing signature, bulkier ammunition, worry about venting gas near the users face (powder residue isn't the easiest thing on the eyes, I understand...)
As for the Desert Eagle, it's produced by IMI, but wasn't it an American design by a company called Magnum Research Inc.? It's more of a nifty toy then a serious combat pistol. Massively heavy, small capacity, big muzzle flash and not particularly reliable.
There's supposedly a short barrel 5.56mm Corner Shot weapon, which might be quite effective with Open Tip Match rounds. Alternatively, a Glock 18 might be able to give it some decent firepower.

The corner shoot gun! Heard it will be the future anti-terrorist weapon of the 21st century
Now police/swat members could fight terrorist and shoot in the safety of cover. Whoever invented that is a genius
They should try creating a corner-shot rifle or MG. Pistols won't be a sufficient stopping power against a group of terrorists.

Re: Girls will love this gun
The weapon is interesting, but I also imagine it has some limitations. A lot of walls these days couldn't stop a round from a decent combat pistol, let alone a rifle, so it's not like the gun makes the wielder invincible. Plus, they're rather bulky, and once has to wonder about response times with that interface (never used one, so I can't say for sure whether the response times are much of an issue, but...). They might work best as a specialist's tool rather then the standard issue weapon of every member in a squad.

Re: Girls will love this gun
its basicly a video camera and screen, theres a lever that acts as a fore grip which when pulled down releases a catch that allows the forward part of the unit to turn 90 degrees, the trigger response is fairly normal so it will fire as fast as you can pull the trigger, they are intended for covert use where you need to see whats going on and not be seen(think hostages) and if need be take out a threat if the oppurtunity arises.

Re: Girls will love this gun
Okay I'm only going off what I remember from the episode of Future weapons that had this.
This isn't so much a gun, as it is a really cool gun holder. You can put quite a few different weapons on the front. I remember they had everything from a really cut down M16 to a 40mm grenade launcher on it. It's obviously designed for pistols though. Which makes sense, since you have so little room for the action. The guy who designed it was clear that yes, it's a specialist weapon. You only going to have 1-2 guys in squad carrying this. Still though that's pretty friggin' awesome.
The ability to see around corners in combat is one that you can't really underestimate. Okay so maybe the bad gun will spot the gun, and fire through the wall. However despite that draw back, there are a lot more times when this will be worth it's weight to a squad in an urban setting, or room clearing. It's as much about information as it is about putting someone down. So with that in mind a pistol is just fine.

Re: Girls will love this gun
Okay, I saw a vid of the weapon: it's apparently a good deal less clumsy then I thought it would be, and it also highlighted some stuff I hadn't been very aware of. Looking at it now, it is indeed a very powerful tool, though it does definitely have its limitations.
One of which can be solved with this.

Re: Girls will love this gun
I think CSI Miami once had an episode revolving around such a weapon. From whT I saw, it's a glorified gunholder that allows people to shoot around corners.
But the ability to shoot an enemy without needing to pop your head out, I can see where the appeal is. Gaining the advantage of surprised.
As for the Kitty Corner Shot, It's Ingenious. Although I must wonder if they're more suprised that there is a cat there in the middle of their base, or why the car looks so much like a stuffed animal.

I can attest to that. Never stand close beside a tall man firing a large-caliber revolver. It's not fun.Piero wrote:(powder residue isn't the easiest thing on the eyes, I understand...)

Re: Girls will love this gun
OC Piero is a tall man with a large calibre revolver. (Well, okay, it's only a .357, so the bullet isn't that huge, but still.)
On the subject of Corneshot itself though -does anyone feel recoil control could be an issue if trying to lay down full auto suppressive fire around corners? With an ordinary shoulder wearpon, the recoil force is transmitted back into your shoulder, here it's being transmitted to an angle well off your shoulder (assuming you're shooting at an angle, anyway).

Re: Girls will love this gun
...depends upon what it's firing... with a 5.56 or a .45 and a small person firing it... maybe. In any case, the recoil would definitely feel strange at that angle.
...Man, the barrel on anything mounted to it has to be short as all hell... guess that's why it's just for fighting in hallways and such...
...and I've been powder-burned pretty badly by a .357 before... the time it got me in the eye was with a .44, though. Glad I wear glasses, or it might've been really bad.

Re: Girls will love this gun
I get the sense the gun will twist in you hands when your firing it an angle. You've got the pistol grip, and the front grip to control that. I don't see that being terribly useful with larger calibers, or full auto. Then again I don't really think the idea was to be able to put down suppressive fire. Pistols generally don't have enough ammo to just spray at an enemy. Even with the assault rifle version it's still not about suppressive fire. it's about being able to look, and take a well aimed shot. So ultimately I wouldn't be too worried about recoil.
