Gunslinger Girl AMV: "Collect The Set"
I won't put this in the "Great AMV" thread because, well, I'm not arrogant enough to claim that it is! Really it's a pretty basic sort of AMV, no elaborate visual effects with simple straight cuts and fade-ins between lines - it won't win any awards.
Now, in the caption to the video on its YouTube page, I witter on with very high-minded ideas like the juxtaposition of concepts that the song brings into relief, but really it takes its inspiration from this picture, found while browsing danbooru:
(Part of a larger collage seen here)
Anyway, enjoy:

Re: Gunslinger Girl AMV: "Collect The Set"
lol,I was about to send you a PM asking "by the way, when is your next amv coming out?"
This is right down my alley,i love anime/song parings that aren't obvious
I did something similar once and did gunslinger girl/naruto shippuden 1st OP AMV,this song choice is nicer though since in a weird and twisted way it fits lol

LOL This video is great. The music and video clips fit in such a sick and twisted way I love it. I had a craptastic day at work and finding this video tonight hit the spot. You would never expect pokemon and GSG to go together but you made it work. Awsome job.

I'm not very well versed in Pokemon (My brother was a big fan back in the 90's, but he was doing a lot of acid back then.), so I'm sure a lot of this went right over my head, but I still couldn't stop laughing. Great work!

Re: Gunslinger Girl AMV: "Collect The Set"
So, I'm just about to upload the full version of this AMV so people can enjoy it in full deinterlaced, cropped and proportioned 720p glory - a step up at least from the letterboxed mess of my last AMV. They're a tough crowd over at animemusicvideos.org and they'll pick up on and mercilessly persecute you for the slightest flaw... and then as I was recompressing the video to fit under their 100MB limit it twitched in the corner of my eye. It completely escaped my attention in the past ten run-throughs, but now that I've spotted it, I can't fail to notice it. One frame is half-faded out from the previous unwanted shot when Henrietta's about to jump off the wall. One frame! One! Out of 6,472!
asdf
That's another three hours of recompiling, uploading and confirming right there. No full download until tomorrow, guys.

That was really good. The song is actually "2 B A Master", though. Very cleverly done AMV, of course.

Bah, fancy editting is overrated. I like to be able to follow what's going on in an AMV rather than be bombarded by a billion cuts per second. I think clip selection is one of the most important parts of making a good AMV.

I was never that into effects either, and in editing class when we had an exam effects were forbidden unless specified otherwise, and I mean any effect, even cross fades. For regular homework people who turned in an edit of random images put together with fancy effects would generally get a remark like "I see you know how to use a bunch of effects in AE,now use them in a way that makes sense"
Of course I say that even though I'm working on an AMV full of effects lol

Damn straight, Professor Oak.
Also, after jumping through a few more hoops, I can now make the downloadable version available.

Haha, that was awesome man. I never got into the pokemon thing (I only really discovered anime in my last year of highschool), but this cracked me up.

I liked the first Pokemon series (with Kasumi / Misty), but then dropped it.

I suppose you could say that an effects-heavy AMV must be considered superior to a more straightforward counterpart owing to sheer dint of effort, as the process is more difficult and more involved. I know that creating an appropriate atmosphere with suitable cuts is more important than sheer graphical frippery, but still, however false a rubric it may be it still preys on my mind when I only see a single video track with clips neatly beside each other in my window and imagine what a storm of confetti it must be in the project file for and AMV like Attack Of The Otaku. Good old Guilt, always there to tell me that I have to work harder...
Still, I suppose one defence I can mount is that I use Sony Vegas Platinum as my editing suite and while it's pretty versatile there's a certain amount of effects work that you simply cannot do. You're limited to four video tracks for instance, and you can't mask.
