Of course, it's debatable with Railgun is intended to take place in the present, so perhaps it's not as effective an argument as me pointing out Nadeko (the youngest character I drew) would be legal in Canada by December 2012. The people who drew Chiaki Minami are the really screwed ones since she's a fifth grader, but the only name that I've drawn that for so far is God, whom presumably is not bound to human law.

You do have a good point there Outfox. But then by the time the marriage date hits, will the character still have its original appeal?

Sure Kazari Uiharu looks cute now but what is she going to look like when she's 18? She might turn out to be this drop dead gorgeous dame, but she could turn out to be your average overweight computer geek just as well.

And having been married once already, I can say that married life is more fun when the person you love is sentient as well. Though its a fun Idea to 'marry' your favorite character as some Japanese are already doing. But really, how are you going to make the final step to truly be husband and wife? screwing a picture or a screen on which said Waifu appears on doesn't really count as it doesn't take your virginity away.

My standpoint on anime Waifu: A nice thought to entertain yourself with. Other then that, yeah nice imagination you got there.

BTW: (18 is the legal age of consent/marriage in the Netherlands)

As a die hard supporter of the Kaname Chidori/Sousuke Sagara pairing, I really can't approve of this. Although at least with her you wouldn't need to worry about whether she'd be legal, since she'd be either 28 or 31 by that date depending on whether you're going by the anime timeline or the timeline from the original novels.

I won't even bother with my screen name,I was just rewatching toradora recently and Ami is definatly my favorite girl of the show

Ami was great, but I am all about the Minorin.

Though Ami... hrm. I'd say she and Minori were equally awesome. Minori gets bonus points for being voiced by Yui Horie.

Minorin fan here as well. I have a liking for spunky and energetic characters. (Kind of funny considering that I'm kind of a quiet person in real life. I guess I find such characters entertaining to watch.)

I have trouble figuring out why Ami appeals to some people so much. I like her as a character, but it's for reasons that are kind of similar to why I can like a nasty and well written villain as a character. One of the best things about her character is that she's good at being two faced and concealing her nasty personality behind an airhead persona. I know she does do a few nicer things for certain people later on in the series, but I really can't shake the feeling that there's some real genuine nastiness in her. I'm sort of left wondering why so many people find a character like that so appealing. (I'll admit it's kind of refreshing to see an anime character that doesn't have some sort of tragic excuse for having less than nice personality traits, but I don't exactly find that sort of thing attractive.)

Then again, maybe this is one case where I'm just not going to really understand. Much as I like to think I'm good at understanding perspectives other than my own, sometimes I run into trouble. (Actually, one could argue that I often run into trouble in that area.)

I... had trouble getting over my initial distaste for Ami. But I wouldn't say she's as nasty as she initially appeared. Many of the people I've seen do deeper analyzes of Toradora peg her as trying to guide the other characters, but as enjoying some head games with them while she does so. Some think that the show would have been over much faster if it weren't for her enjoying the latter.

BTW, one of these analysts actually pegs Minori as a lesbian, and Ami as one of the few characters to pick up on this.

I think part of it is a defense mechanism - Ami is a model / idol and in the series she gets plenty of...unwanted...attention from fans. So by being brusque and bristly she makes people back off and leave her alone.

I think she opens up to Ryūji because he's not interested in her for her looks and her fame. Actually, he's generally not interested in her period, as I recall. So for someone who is always the focus of attention, to find someone who doesn't much care about her probably piqued her interest in them. Also, her attitude/personality makes her a lonely person, so I think she also latched onto Ryūji for companionship.

While I enjoyed watching the show, the ending still disappointed me. It should have been Ryūji+Minorin and Taiga+Yūsaku in my book.

To me she becomes less and less nasty as the series progresses,her nastiness comes from the fact that she's very insecure and I would think that as she matures and also finds someone to help her get past those inseccurites it would go away.

She has her issues,but I would rather have to deal with her issues than Taiga's for exemple.

But she had to, because that is what the trope demands.

I was really hoping toradora! was going to be different and break that trope, but they didn't, and that is why it failed, in the end, for me and I likely won't watch it again. Oh well, the music is still awesome so I will keep it alive on my iPhone's playlist.

Speaking of Taiga, it was her first meeting with Ami that has tended to dominate my impression of Ami's character. I realise Taiga is a jerkass, but Ami didn't know that about her at the time, and the moment the boys leave the table, well... she just drops that "friendly airhead" routine and starts getting really nasty. And while I can't really remember much else from the series (it's been a while since I've watched it), I never really felt she lost that part of her personality. She did do some nice things for a few characters who she developed a liking for, but I didn't really feel she actually changed her personality too much.

I've sometimes found myself drawing comparisons between Ami and School Rumble's Eri Sawachika, who has some similarities but who I've tended to find much more sympathetic. Because of her upbringing Eri feels she has to maintain a public facade where she acts like she's miss perfect, but when she's with friends she has a tendency to be kind of blunt and ornery. She largely just seems to be ornery and blunt rather than being truly nasty though.

(Am I going on too long here? I'm wondering if I should have just kept quiet, this is getting a little long. Although I was also kind of curious as to what people saw in Ami...)

I guess we could continue but we're just gonna turn around in circles?It really comes down to how much you think Ami's changed over the course of the series,if you think she didn't change that much then yeah,I can see why you'd have a hard time with her,I just think she changed quite a bit,she still has issues but of all three girls her issues are the ones that bother me the less.

I consider Kagami to be a loli character in art style only, since she's like 17. Yeah, she's flat... but I get the impression that's not exactly uncommon among 17 year old Japanese girls.

Also, if you capitalize his name - which makes a difference - he draws Selnia Iori Flameheart, who definitely isn't a loli-type.

...Why are the characters I drew more loli than the ones Yu Aida is drawing? Maybe if we knew his real name rather than just his pen name?
