to be honest it wasn't much of a surprise, as a team they rarely play together and the premiership is stuffed full of the people the England team was playing against, the end result is that there are only a few, who qualify to play, on the England team playing top level Football in England !

World Cup 2014 Empty Re: World Cup 2014

Post by boomer_gonz Thu 26 Jun 2014 - 4:37

I'm a little late to the party, but I am a vigilant World Cup fan and support the American Team. However I also keep track of the Mexico squad in honor of my Grandfather who every four years would roll out his Mexican flag and display it next to the American Flag on his roof (properly of course) and state proudly "This year mijo. This year the cup is ours." and then promptly after Mexico was eliminated he would take it down, roll it up again and say "In four years mijo. In four years the cup is ours." So in honor of my Grandfather and Mexico's spanking of Croatia may I say...

Orim-bom-ba! Orim-bom-ba! Allegro! Alegero! Orim-bom-ba!! Mexico!! Mexico!! ORA! ORA! ORA!!

Ole----, Ole Ole Ole--- Ole----- Ole----..........
...urm...hmm..hrm...'scuse me...

Now the last second (literally) goal ripped my heart out and like Kisk I felt like smashing my head against the wall a couple of times. Against a team that has been quite strong this year, a win would be nice, but I will settle for a tie as it would send America into the Second Round. Now they still have a chance should they lose, but it gets kind of iffy.

-For those not familiar with Futbol-
Basically, if the Portugal/Ghana game(which is taking place at the same time of all G-D things) ends in a tie, then it doesn't matter as neither squad would have enough points to break into the top two. If one of these squads wins with an American loss however, then the points will be tied with the U.S. and the determining factor goes to Goal Difference (if I'm not mistaken).

If either the Portuguese or Ghana(ian?) squad wins by more than one goal it will lock up the GD and then use 'Goals for' as a tiebreaker. If the US does not score...then a win by two from either Portugal of Ghana will knock the US out. Also if a win by 3+ situation occurs and either the Portugal or Ghana squads get blown out, then that would also put the US on the bubble.

So there you have it for those not familiar with futbol.

NOW LETS ALL SING YOU YANKS!!

Oh When The Yanks! (oh when the yanks!)
Come Marching In! (come marching in!)

Oh when the Yanks come marching i--n

Oh when the Yanks Come Marching In!!

Hopefully I won't hear it from my fellow brothers and sisters of the Angel City Brigade. sweat

First off, let me just say this - I knew your pessimistic attitude to Germany slaughtering the US was too premature Razz; I believed they could advance! Even though they lost, they still won in the end!

Second: yeah, it will be US vs. Belgium in the Round of 16. I had my doubts for this match, because I think it could end in the US' defeat, but seeing the performance they put up, allowing just the one goal, I'm starting to gain confidence that the US could win this one.

Third: The only reason Portugal lost was that major 4-0 thrashing from ze Germans. If they lost by less, then yeah, there would be reason to worry; but Joachim Löw's side sealed Portugal's fate right there. Thank you, Germany. Thanks a bunch for digging Portugal's grave.

Tomorrow my Grandfathers beloved Mexican squad goes up against a relentless Holland squad. Things look bleak, but they just might have the heart to pull off an upset.

well, apparently my prediction of Costa Rica winning is on the mark... that awkward feeling of "i sensing penalties round" did really happen

And topgearbrzgt86, i did predict Netherland would win the match right? my deduction is on the mark again; twice Razz

Not bothering with spoiler tags since who (in the US) wasn't watching the game. Smile

Belgium advances to the quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over the US in extra time. The US goalkeeper was a brick wall with something like 15 saves. He should win the MVP of the game, frankly. Smile

Complete destruction of Brazil by Germany with a 1-7 final score. Reports from those on the scene describe the German team scoring several goals simply by *blowing past* the Brazilian defenders.

That's... actually truly rather frightening.
