Personally, I think a pistol with a retractable, spring-loaded blade somewhere would be badass. Imagine the close-quarters battle possibilities.

There are ballistic knives, but that is an entirely different weapon.
Basically, there is a powder charge in the knife's handle. Detonating the powder charge, the knife flies through the air to its intended target. Its a 1-shot weapon basically.

Somewhere in my police career I have heard about a combination of the two; a gun with a ballistic knife. I think I would have been better off facing with the beeper/cellphone guns.

Ballistic knives are neat. But imagine what would happen if during a struggle, the knife went off while still at your belt...

Ah yes, pistol bayonets. I suppose if you had two of them, and were named Neo, they'd be pretty useful.

I've seen LMGs with bayonets before. Make of that what you will...

I suppose theoretically a pistol bayonet might have applications, but unless it's a switchblade as per Nacht, it would be a bitch to get out of a holster.

Well I didn't get around to reading 451 till well after seeing Equilibrium. But now that you mention it there were some very similar themes running there.

You just mount it on a wall and take a firehose to it, followed by dunking it in a vat of gun oil and hanging it out to dry in a clean room.

While you wait for it to dry out, you can reload all 3 100-round magazines. Sounds like a fun day after shooting it for 30 seconds.
