My super ultra high-res Triela vector
About two weeks ago, I came up on the official box cover for Il Teatrino and me being a sucker for great box art (and great poses), I was compelled to vectorize Triela for a future anime-themed WXQGA wallpaper since there are so few of them out there. Ten days, 2759 anchor points, and 25+ total hours later, it's 98% complete. I guess you can say this image was made to commemorate the release of Il Teatrino here in the States, even though people have had a lot of issues with it.
Original scan
Damn Near Done
Wallpaper 16:10
Wallpaper 4:3
A word to the wise, a super large base image makes vectoring much easier and more detailed. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a bigger version of the original, so I had to make do with what I had; as good as it looks now, I'm confident that a larger base would have made it even more spectacular.
Any comments or constructive criticisms are welcome, I know for a fact there's still room for improvement. Oh and any ideas you might have for a wallpaper would be appreciated as well, right now I'm thinking of making a Sig Sauer advertisement with it, since their products are so prominently featured and I'm something of a Sig nut myself.

Re: My super ultra high-res Triela vector
As an Adobe Illustrator artist (kinda ), I love vector artwork because it's clean at any resolution, which is nice when I am printing posters. I also like using vector art-based wallpapers for my 30" ACD since there is no fuzziness from upscaling a bitmap.
So I look forward to the final product, as what you have at the moment is excellent.

Re: My super ultra high-res Triela vector
Thanks! Numerous people swear by Photoshop when it comes to vectoring, but its pen tool just rubs me the wrong way so I always use Illustrator.
This is only my second vector ever and my first time tracing with shape layers or as I call it, double tracing. My first ever vector was done with stroked lines and I'm not even going to post it because it's so awful in comparison and it's not just because of Triela either.

Don't worry about size. Most of my projects end up in the 4000x3000 pixel range, because I'm a quality whore as well. I resize most of them to 50% though to post here on the forum, for the sake of the dial-up users here.
Lol, almost forgot - Nice work.

Hmm...
"SWISS ARMS - Small... and perfectly formed"
"SIG SAUER - a fresh new take on a respected name"
Both of which suit the young, bright poster-girl attached to the pistol!

Re: My super ultra high-res Triela vector
Ooh thanks for the slogans, I was just about to ask for some! I'm going with "A Fresh New Take on a Respected Name", it sounds like something you'd find on a mag ad.
Check out the ad text I'm planning on using:
"Meet Triela, an elite member of an anti-extremist organization known as the SWA. Whether participating in a high-risk raid or escorting personnel, she turns to Sig Sauer’s legendary to-hell-and-back reliability to see the mission through. Find out why the world’s top organizations choose Sig Sauer as their weapon of choice."
Any input would be great!

It's nice vectoring!
About the background......I offer my idea like this ;
1.National Italian monument [ something that show the spirit of Italy ]
2.Bad thugs like Pinoccio or someone else.
3.Petrushka!
Hope your enjoy your work and do you planing to post this wallpaper in Deviantart.com?

You know, I was thinking of vectoring Pinocchio from that same scan, but then that would have totally thrown off the Sig ad idea (unless I could put a gun in his hand) and that was pretty much all I had at the moment. I suppose I could have turned it into a no-holds-barred poster ala early UFC (no rules, two enter, one leaves alive, etc); definitely would have given me a chance to use my blood splatter brushes. I don't know why, but all I can seem to think about and visualize are advertisements.
From what I remember, Deviantart keeps its distance from copyrighted material (in this case both the anime and Sig Sauer) so I'm going to post it on Animepaper; I've already got two relatively well received wallpapers there and frankly, is probably the best resource for anime wallpaper; even if they are a little snooty.

Re: My super ultra high-res Triela vector
Whew, OK, I've managed to get a mockup done.
*See first post for final version*
I might change the font color on the block of text, I found that it clashes with the icon text of my desktop.
Also, does everyone think there's enough going on in the background? I'm used to designing websites and the mantra is always "no wasted white space", so I'm not sure if I'm looking at it with the right pair of glasses if you know what I mean.

I think that there's a fair balance of elements - there's definitely a background to explore, but it doesn't sacrifice clarity. Remember that as it's a wallpaper people are going to be overlaying it with their own icons (as you say, you've already had a problem with the text colour), so you never want a scene to be too busy with different details otherwise everything will just dissolve a messy porridge of colour that's difficult to use. Adding in the little promotional nod to IT was a nice piece of authenticity as well, it helps to make it more like a real advert.
If you're thinking about using this vector for more wallpapers, here's something that I mulled over this afternoon - I figure that bodyguards and private security forces have their own trade journal for this sort of advert . It'd need a new situational background drawn for it, though.

THINK FAST.
The bomb blew your car onto its roof. Your driver's dead, your partner's down, and your client's trapped. You've been thrown clear, but you can see the extremists running up to finish the job - and there's no Spectre Gunship on standby for you.
When it's all down to you, you can't afford to leave things to chance. Your first shot will be your only shot - so it can't be a stoppage. You need a weapon that won't jam just because it's been thrown about a bit. You need a weapon that'll hit first time, every time. You need a weapon proven in crises the world over. You need reliability.
You need SIG SAUER.
-------------------------------
-------------------------------
Anyway, just a thought that I'd throw onto the pile.

Heh, I certainly could use a job right now! Unemployment sucks, but it's nice to have the time to do something like this.
The final versions have been posted in both the maximum resolutions for 16:10 and 4:3 aspect ratios. Brownie points go to anyone who can spot the differences between the Damn Near Done version and the final vector!

I think you should try the black or navy blue instead of this current theme. It'll look more awesome and more professional feeling for the SIG Sauer.
Oh,and why don't make another girl too.
I need to see Rico with her SVD Dragunov, with her, you'll get the great feeling of sniper.

Re: My super ultra high-res Triela vector
Believe me, I really wanted to go black; all of the wallpapers I've made before this have been bathed in black since they don't make my LCDs ghost as much. Black would have negated the black border stroke around the vector and its shadows, which I really needed to make it "pop out" of the page so to speak. I tried it with white shadows and strokes and it just doesn't look the same.
I'd love to make a Rico wallpaper; I don't think she gets enough attention! I'd need a pretty damn breathtaking scan though, something even better than the Il Teatrino cover. For her I'd definitely go for a true "hitter" theme, probably lots of well placed blood and bullet holes. Say a background with a ton of people and... well you get the picture.
