Gunslinger Girl OVAs

Besides the 13 episodes of GSG Il Teatrino, there are also 2 OVAs scheduled to be released only on DVD. The OVAs will not be released until after all DVDs of the TV series have been released. Seeing how Vol 1 was just released on 3/25, the OVA's will not be released for some time. Here are the following release schedules:

Vol. 1 (3/25) Episode 1
Vol. 2 (4/25) Episodes 2,3
Vol. 3 (5/23) Episodes 4,5
Vol. 4 (6/25) Episodes 6,7
Vol. 5 (7/25) Episodes 8,9
Vol. 6 (8/22) Episodes 10,11
Vol. 7 (9/25) Episodes 12,13
OVA (10/24) 2 Episodes :face:

So there are over 6 months until the OVAs will be released on 10/24. From what I currently know, there isn't any information on what these episodes will contain. Anyone have any thoughts/speculations on what these 2 episodes will cover?

My thoughts: new anime only footage (like episodes 12/13 of the first season), and/or an episode focusing on the early part of Volume 6 with Enrica.

I'd love those OVAs to be all-new stories, perhaps featuring the first-stage girls we've heard of but haven't seen.

man I only recognize four of those, but I'm still laughing. Man, you have to relax a bit. Okay Petra doesn't come off as the best character in the world. Seriously though I get the sense it bugs you a lot more then it should. Nothing is forever. Not even a good story. Don't get so bent out of shape about it.

Yes, there's a very high possibility that Petra is the main character in the GSG OVA.......What a sad truth. (Sorry to those Petra fans)

I remember when the Dirty Pair was shut down (due to the artist's death in the early 1990s), the entire third TV Season and 3rd movie was chopped up into little OVAs, where they could be slapped together to make new shows with. This never happened (making of the third season nor the movie), and thus the OVAs were released to the public on (then) videotape!

And you consider THIS to be torture? Try waiting for a Third Season and a Movie that NEVER CAME... IT IS NOW 2008, AND I'M STILL WAITING!!!

It's like how the another LOTR book is coming out because one of Tolkien's relatives(can't remember the exact relation) decided finished that book.

I can only see Petra in the OVAs is if they really do plan on having a 3rd season of GSG. There is plenty of story on Petra in the manga that I don't think it can be covered in 2 OVAs so it could act as a prelude to the 3rd series. However with the mediocre vibe from the 2nd season, I wonder if a 3rd season would happen anytime soon.

Yu doesn't count - his adoration of Petra more makes up for all those who dislike her.

Im hoping there is no Petra in the OVA, but i wish there is no Enrica either. if they put Enrica in the OVA season 3 is gonna be more than 90% Petra... . That's not gonna be a good season unless they throw in Angie's demise in it. yet i feel Angie's death won't be as dramatic in the anime either.

I don't think they will make a 3rd season of GSG....since the Japanese GSG fans are not so satisfy with the 2nd season and most of them made negative comments towards the 2nd season.

One reason that make me believe Petra will be a main character in OVA is the seiyuu(character voice) of Petra. As many poeple know, Petra was showed up in episode 5 for season 2. Though she just spoke a few sentences, the seiyuu(character voice) of Petra, 阪本真绫(Maaya Sakamoto), is a very famous one in Japan actually. I don't think they would employ a famous seiyuu and just ask her to speak a few sentences. That's a waste.
Also, Sandro had a carmo scene in the GSG Drama CD(audio only). His character voice is a famous seiyuu, too.
Therefore I think they will make use of these famous seiyuu in the OVA and tempt people to buy the OVA DVDs.
(Of course I don't want it to be true.... )

Yes, I agree with you at this point, so I would like to see how can they put the Petra's story in only 2 OVAs......
And if the OVA really don't contain Petra's story, that's the best situation(Oh Yu Aida, I wish you are reading this....)

This may have already been covered before but I wonder what the Gunslinger Girl fans in JAPAN think of Petra.

Panzer's one of them. Perhaps he can give us some insight.

I think Petra has some fans in Japan. Because when I watch the GSG anime online at a Japanese website, I often see comments about Petra like "Where's my Petra?" "Will Petra come out this season?" "Petra is my wife~" or something like that.
Probably because Japanese like fan service. It makes me quite disappointed.

Maaya Sakamoto is indeed very famous. I saw a concert she did in the US back in 2005 and it was absolutely amazing! I noticed for her VA roles that while she has played very big roles (like Hitomi from Escaflowne, Haruhi from Ouran, etc), she has also played very minor roles as well. So it could be a hit or miss with Petra coming in the OVAs.

One thing that does concern me is that you mentioned Sandro in the Drama CD. I looked up his VA and it is the infamous Minoru Shiraishi (anyone that has watched Lucky Star knows who I'm talking about ). I looked up his info on Anime News Network and it mentioned that he also has a role as Sandro in GSG Il Teatrino. Unless I was brain dead at some point during the TV series (which with fangirling can happen), I do not recall Sandro at all appearing. Was this an error in referring to Sandro being in the Drama CD, or does Sandro really having a role in Il Teatrino by being in the OVAs?

Yes.....Maaya Sakamoto is a singer,too.

Of course Minoru Shiraishi is not as famous as Maaya Sakamoto. They are at different levels. But at least his name is sounds familiar to me.
Sandro didn't appear in the 2nd season anime, but he's in the GSG Il Teatrino Drama CD, which is sound only. And he just spoke 2~3 sentences in that CD........

I think the info on Anime News Network just means that he has a role as Sandro in the Drama CD. I don't think they're implied that Sandro will take part in the OVA, since the GSG OVA's news haven't been released even in the official website, it's barely other websites would tell you any details about it.

Although Petra seems has some fans in Japan, I think Etta, Rico, Angelica and Triela have more fans than Petra relatively....so don't be upset brother

I swear every single anime or game out there has some sort of a fanservice thing going on....that's a lot... O o.

I'd say I'm on the fence about Petra. I don't really hate her, but I don't really care about her either. The fanservice is annoying though.

I have to admit Probit, when she was first introduced, I too was undecided about her. Then Yu went and made her the center of the GSG universe and that soured me on her really quick. Turning her overnight into a sexed-up Henrietta didn’t help matters either.

I feel that she is just so...forced on the reader. You don't get any time to warm up to her and Sandro at all. Its disheartening, because with the other girls you have to opportunity to get a true feel for them. For example, though Claes does not receive much of the action at all, you are still able to sympathize with her.

To me, Petra seems very much like a girl at a party that everyone (Yu) adores and pours over....yet you (the reader) sense that things are strange and misplaced with that adoration.

I gave Petra her chance when I read the volumes and it was not her, exactly, that turned me off. It was the fact that I was forced into 'liking' her. I didn't enjoy that at all.

Exactly. Everything about her seems forced – her training, the fan service, her relationship with Lauro – all of it. It’s almost like Yu is throwing her at us and demanding, “Love her like you love the other girl’s damnit!” Sorry, but it just doesn’t work that way.
