Overview 

TL:DR; 

SWA cyborgs are the main characters in an isekai (anime subgenre where main character is transported to another world.) 

This collab will be a parody of isekai tropes, starting with the "Overpowered protagonist is comically unaware of shocked NPCs around her."

Participating in this Collab

Story Prologue

Your player character is an SWA cyborg. SWA Section 2's Technical Division wants to improve how the cyborgs work together as a single team independent of their handlers. To do this, your PCs will be jacked into a system utilizing technology inspired by commercial virtual reality massively-multiplayer online role-playing games. This will be abbreviated as VRMMO going forward. 

The planned exercise is to have the participating cyborgs climb a sheer rock face, then launch a coordinated attack on an enemy base set in an unused monastery. Their handlers cannot be beside them because of the sheer rock face, and jamming prevents them from wireless communication with their handlers or each other. The opposition will be multiple squads of elite special forces and a team of enemy cyborgs. 

To ensure the enemy is caught unawares, the ascent will be at night during a full moon. The PCs will be lightly armed and wearing a plate carrier. They will each have one longarm with 30-100 rounds across 3 magazines, one pistol with 30-50 rounds across 3 magazines, and a combat knife (30 cm total length or shorter.) The longarm can be replaced with a two-handed melee weapon or a bow with 50 conventional arrows or bolts.

However, that initial loadout hardly matters. The night before this exercise begins, some Section 2 tech was playing a Japanese fantasy RPG and didn't reset the setting. This is not discovered until the cyborgs have already started their VRMMO experience. The assembled Section 2 handlers and Technical Division debated whether or not to terminate the exercise. 

Director Lorenzo decides that this will still provide the same end result: improve teamwork and independence from the cyborgs handlers. However, seeing how the setting is not relevant to their usual mission parameters, he instructs the simulation be sped up from realtime so they can review the footage at some later date. The simulation now is running at sufficient speed that the cyborgs will only have spent less than 6 hours realtime no matter how long they were in the VRMMO.

How to Join

To join, reply to the Shitsekai Characters thread with your character. Your character must be an SWA (or other appropriate organization) cyborg of similar age, with similar capabilities, background, and brainwashing.

If you want to play more than one cyborg, go for it. Please limit yourself to one canon character. If she's already spoken for, congratulations! You're both playing the same character. And no, you can't kill your evil twin.

Game will start May 2022.
 

How to Play

After the game begins, post in the Shitsekai Turns (Character Actions) thread what you want your characters to do. We'll discuss on that same thread, then I will mash it all together into a chapter and post it on the Shitsekai Story Thread. 

How to Pause or Quit

This isn't Sword Art Online or Log Horizon. You can always log out. You can always log back in, too. If you miss more than 6 turns, we'll come up with an in-game reason in the Shitsekai Turns (Character Actions) thread to explain your PC's prolonged absence such as your cyborg disconnecting from the VRMMO.

Story Ending

When this collab goes dead (no one posts for at least 6 months), I'll post a chapter where the VRMMO exercise concludes. The cyborgs all wake up unharmed, but hopefully with funny shared experiences to look back upon.

Failing upwards: tries to do something "bad," but it always ends up backfiring and being something helpful.




The Plotting section brings to mind some tropes / themes that I as GM would like to avoid:
Successfully going darkside, as opposed to "failing upwards," above. 
Taking over the joint. 
Obvious allegories to real-world politics / controversies / large-scale conflicts; there will probably be a bunch of FRPG tropes about warring kingdoms, racism and class oppression, but they'll be done over-the-top and in obvious homage/parody fashion because they're dead-horse tropes.
