Hi, I'm new here.
I've been a big fan of Yu Aida's masterpiece for quite some time now, but I've also kind of wanted someone to talk about it with. As a fan of forums as a means of connecting with people all over the world, I decided to look up a Gunslinger Girl forum, and here I am. Gunslinger Girl is actually my favorite manga, and by extension, the original anime is my favorite anime(though mostly because it's a great adaptation of the manga while it lasts). I think Il Teatrino is garbage though. Well, enough about me. I'm here now, and look forward to getting to know the rest of you.

Thanks. I'm sure I will. I'm not the type to join a forum where I don't think I'll get along with people, though as someone who likes getting to know people, and is accepting of individuals, it's very rare that I come across such a forum.

Re: Hi, I'm new here.
Welcome Welcome, another Canadian joins the craziness. I have to ask though in your sig it mentions that you hate fanfic why is that. I will admit I like a good fanfic if it adds to a continuity I like or if it takes a continuity in a direction I would have liked it to have gone. To bad youp have to search a while to get the good ones. Much Less of a problem here though.

Re: Hi, I'm new here.
Long story short, I haven't had a good experience with fanfic. To be fair, I haven't read any fanfic from this site, so I really don't know if it's any good or not. But, because I tend not to like fanfic, I don't write any myself. But, everyone's different, and everyone has their own likes and dislikes. So far, fanfic hasn't really been for me, but what I like and dislike is hardly anything to take offense to, as it's all a matter of opinion.
Edit: Because I might have struck a nerve with this community by showcasing my disdain for something that's popular around here, I decided to reword that part of my profile to be more respectful(my intention was never to be disrespectful to begin with). As a sociology major, I know more than most to abide by norms and sanctions of a community, and to tread lightly around something that's valued if I don't feel the same way about it. Entertainment is something that actually fascinates me, or to be more specific, its impact on people. I have a certain fascination with people in general, and I think the way Yu Aida writes people is one of the reasons why I really like Gunslinger Girl. On the subject of likes and dislikes, I find Alessandro and Rosana to be interesting characters. The fact that they like everything, but at the same time, lack any real passion for anything makes me wonder whether that really is the plight of the individual who doesn't have any dislikes. Though I obviously don't know what that's like, I do think that likes and dislikes help define us as individuals, and I'm not ruling out the possibility that they help us avoid falling into that slump that those two characters were in.

You really might want to give the writers here a shot - most here manage to remain a cut above the common ruck, and are, on th whole very accepting of constructive criticism.

Greetings, Tross!
No need to defend your personal likes and dislikes...we all have an individual tolerance level where it concerns deviation from canon (my own threshold is the word crossover).
You'll still find plenty of other conversations to jump in on...enjoy!

Well, in that case, I might have to. Anyone who wants to make a believer out of me ought to be given a chance to do so.

Well, great. I've met too many people who refuse to accept anyone's views outside of their own. I find I have to tread lightly with that type, and often avoid certain topics altogether. And the word crossover makes me cringe too. That's a whole other can of worms that I think is best left alone though.

Glad to hear you get into the characters. Trying to figure out the thinking and motives and relationships of these people is the real entertainment of GsG for me.
And, by the way, I'll second the assertion that this site has some VERY talented storytellers.

Yeah, they're more than just typical archetypes, which would have been easy to fall back on. I can't say there's a single character I dislike. It's rare that I come across a series that doesn't have a defined main character, but the spotlight is shared in Gunslinger Girl. There are reasons for that, obviously. Not only is it practical, so that the show can go on if something happens to one of the characters, or even a Fratello. It's a story about an agency, and the consequences its practices have on not only those involved, but also those around them, and also Italian politics as a whole, and the dangers of terrorism and civil war. It's a lot bigger than any one character or Fratello. Of course, a good tragedy gets its audience invested in the characters, because we ought to feel something when something happens to them. I'll cut myself off there. Gunslinger Girl is one of those series that can be analyzed from multiple angles, and it's a big enough topic to spawn a great deal of discussion, and plenty of lengthy posts. Even sufficiently scratching the surface can easily take time and plenty of text to dive into. Of course, there are whole boards for that.
Well, it's not that I don't like the concept of fanfic. I've just come across plenty of it that's...not so great. If anyone here can show me some good fanfic, then all I can say is thank you.Thescarredman wrote:And, by the way, I'll second the assertion that this site has some VERY talented storytellers.

Well, I'm not sure what I'd do if someone actually bit me. I suppose I'd hope they weren't a vampire. After that, I'd make sure to remember that that person is a little crazy.
